You and your family are off on a perfect vacation in Myrtle Beach and now you are looking for the best place to dine? There are so many choices that it often makes it hard to decide on one place. The lines can be long, but you have learned to get off the beach by 4 o’clock, shower and be out the door to get to your favorite restaurants. While we were in Myrtle Beach, we decided to stay local, and dine with a group that has a great set of eateries, The Divine Group’s Nacho Hippo. Here is what our meal was like as we lavishly live vacationing, dining and fun out loud in Myrtle Beach!
If you are like most you have learned that 7-8p is high tide in the restaurants(lol) and it is best to avoid everywhere during that time frame including the highways to get there! We have found a really great dining option, in Myrtle Beach, sitting among a few shops and behind a great ice cream shop, but you need to bring your appetite. Nacho Hippo resides in the Market Common, 1160 Farrow Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29577 about 1 mile from The Crown Reef Resort. We ventured there one evening and I have to share the food, to make you salivate over the possibilities! Get ready to discover a restaurant where the nacho chips run free for those of us who are totally nacho chip obsessed! Get ready to lavishly live life out loud and indulge in the largest plates of nachos that will satisfy your pang for chips!
Less than ONE mile from The Crown Reef Resort we ventured to the Market Common. Parking is all over the place, in a garage, on the street and in between the shops so you are sure to find a spot, no worries. We parked by the ice cream store and walked to our destination for dining: Nacho Hippo. I wondered what exactly we would find in this restaurant as a lady poolside bantered and talked this restaurant up like there was no other. Her claim was that the nacho platters were Make Your Own Platter and so big that she had to bring hers home. My kids LOVE, did I say LOVE nachos so this was the choice destination, but would it hold up to all the hype?
Naked Nachos with Corn, Chicken and Salsa Verde
Here is a peek at the menu.
My daughter, who is gluten free, was able to eat here. Her meal was HUGE and exceptional. The leftovers must be reheated in the over, not the microwave, this keeps things crispy and delish!
These are Naked Nachos, and a very plentiful serving. My 10 year old son was able to enjoy these and he eats, nut free, latex free and shellfish free meals. I do think he could have enjoyed a kids portion but he insisted he could eat these and at $6 and change it was not that big of a deal if he did not eat them all. The portion was huge and again, leftovers prevailed.
These are known as The Donald. They have Maine lobster and shrimp on them. I ditched the spicy mayo as well as the mango salsa and jalapenos as they were just going to make this too hot, but if you like dining with fire, take them on! The platter costs about $17 and is loaded. Was it good? To say the least, “YES” and I ate the whole platter! My mistake was not adding additional veggies as this would have made it awesome fierce, but who knew?
Now if someone in your party does not want to dine on nachos(like who would not love nachos?) then they can always get WINGS(my son did) and awesome tacos. They can even create taco platters by choosing 3 different tacos and adding rice making a complete meal.
The bonus at The Nacho Hippo are the plastic glasses, that you can take home as a souvenir cup.
What you need to know: there are a lot of people in Myrtle Beach in the summer and peak dining time seems to happen between 5:30 and 7:30p, so get to the restaurants ahead of the rush or after. The Margaritas run only $3 all day long and are deliciously cool and a tasty treat for those who seek out Margaritas( I Do!).
Nachos start out ‘Naked’ meaning, base price $6.50 and they include: chips, cheese, queso, lettuce and pico. Eliminate the pico for no heat at all. This platter could feed a child, really over feed them, and it is perfect as an appetizer or as a meal. In addition you can add topping to it to make it a meal like: black beans, fire roasted veggies, beef, chili, pork, etc. The platters of all nachos have a good amount of lettuce on them and will fill you up.
Don’t drive all over Myrtle Beach looking for a great place to eat when the Nacho Hippo is the perfect family destination. Enjoy great food, at great prices and everyone in your group, with food allergies or sins food allergies can enjoy a great meal. Find the Nacho Hippo in the Market Common and lavishly live a great meal and some true dining fun that the kids are sure to talk about long after you live. Great big portions and delicious drinks line the way for a fun time while in Myrtle Beach! Cheers!
