Travel is all about relaxation, downtime, good food, great memories and of course finding destinations that rock your socks right? I am all about seeking out the best of the best and while we were in Sandusky I spent time dining in different restaurants with my family.
My find today is the Best Sports Tavern Food in Sandusky, with awesome portions, hand-crafted food, that will leave you craving more. In fact, the best sports tavern in Sandusky is allergen-friendly (when you notify them of your allergies), and it is a stone’s throw from Kalahari.
If you love food, with generous portions, good service and a clean, this is your destination. Foods like owner-crafted Corn Chowder, Homemade Tater Tots (bacon filled), Spinach Artichoke Dip and more are just the beginning of the food line-up waiting for you.
Lavishly live food out loud and head out for the best sports tavern food in Sandusky, go hungry, leave full and it’s allergen friendly!
Our Destination
The meal was provided, the post is not sponsored. Please note, all images and thoughts are my own based on our personal experience.
We passed the Sports Tavern a few times before we ever arrived. The location of the Manny’s Sports Tavern is right on the main road, so you will see it too. Just make sure to stop or you are missing one of Sandusky’s golden eatery destinations.
The interior is not large, so get there before the crowds or you could wait a while. Trust me, busy or not I would wait for the food because it is delicious and great after a day of exploring the Sandusky area.
We were staying over at the Kalahari Resort, but after lots of swimming, water-slides, and people, we just needed a break. Also, the eats at the Kalahari are just kind of basic and while my kids favored the park, getting away from the mass amount of people was a Plus on my list.
Seriously, a little stop in the action is good. We got in our car and headed down Milan Road. As previously stated had passed Manny’s Sports Tavern multiple times before. Cars are always in the lot (a great way to judge a place, lol). We walked in and saw a lot of tables and a lot of ‘taken’ tables, indicating again, “GOOD CHOICE DANA!”
You can pick from High-Top Tables, Regular seating, or bar seating or you can sit outside on the patio. It fills slowly after 6:00P and locals hang at the bar. There are a lot of people that come back here year after year as well, and now I know why.
Yes, I saw a few of the people eating there and mentioning they come here a lot. I stopped and talked to people at the bar (a great way to get insight). Of course, they happily shared what they were eating and why!
Program your Google App for 6201 Milan Road Sandusky, OH 44870 and you will find Manny’s Sports Tavern.
Best Sports Tavern Food In Sandusky
We started off our dining experience with a few appetizers because the kids and I were famished from swimming and slides. We actually sampled the Manny’s Signature Items and YUM is what we all have to say about them
Look at this Artichoke Spinach Dip – oozing with flavor, and a taste you just have to try in order to believe, and all the kids ate it! The cheese was not over-powering but truly it is better than most I have experienced. I like the cheese in this dip. Yummers!
My oldest son is craving these and there is nothing like these around our home: Homemade Tater Tots stuffed with bacon and cheese. Want to see more of them, check out my Instagram image of them. Ummmm.
Imagine tater tots loaded with cheese and bacon and the crunch of the tater tot against the smooth texture of melted cheese. Now you have the idea! Open wide.
The Signature Corn Chowder Soup
Before I start, just know that the owner is the only one making the soup. The staff does not know the recipe, nor will they ever. Additionally, this is a seasonal dish. Remember I was here in late July so we got to enjoy this decadence in a bowl.
Traveling to the destination before late July or August? Sorry you may not get to experience what is still hands-down the best Signature Corn Chowder Soup I have had! It does not need crackers, or pepper. Just a spoon and your mouth.
So, Marcy gives the recipe out to NO ONE and when it is Corn Chowder Soup Season, you can find her in the kitchen preparing it herself. Remember, Manny’s Sports Tavern is locally owned and the owner takes pride in her recipes!
The Corn Chowder is only prepared when the fresh, LOCAL corn is ready and then Marcy makes it. I noticed a slight ‘kick’ in the finish and I had to ask, what was it? White Pepper is the answer I got:)
That’s all I needed, this soup will bring any foodie to their knees, it is just plain good. I would make a trip to OHIO, just for it! I hope Guy Fieri finds this stop because this Corn Chowder is Guy-worthy!
Dinner Choices
What did we choose? Let’s talk about the allergen-friendly food my son ate. A Burger and fries, as well as the artichoke dip! He had a feast and loved every minute of it. ALL we did was ask before we were served, discussed his food allergies and from there, Manny’s Sports Tavern took care of the rest!
Niko (WhereNikoTravels) is smiling because there are FRIES on his plate, which is not a common find. They do provide allergen-friendly dining IF you speak with the manager on duty. They are not weird about it, rather they do it with a smile. His happiness was in both the taste and his options. Thanks, Manny’s Sports Tavern!
Pig Pig Cow Burgers From The Connoisseur
Meet the Pig Pig Cow burger, a burger fit for the food of burger Gods. Pulled pork, bacon, cheddar all sitting on a pretzel bun, served up with hand-cut fries. It is everything you will imagine it to be, so says Where MJ Travels, our burger aficionado.
Slowly but surely, my oldest son has become the family officiant with the title ‘The Burger Connoisseur. He has eaten burgers worldwide from cruise-ships to restaurants, and diners. My son’s restaurant destination requirements, “burgers that are different, bold and kill it with taste!”
This is a burger for those on burger quests, those that want them topped off with vivid flavor. If you are looking for a burger that will have you salivating trust me, you won’t go home hungry and Pig Pig Cow is your choice at Manny’s Sports Tavern. This burger fills up a hand and that’s only piece of it! You won’t find a better Pig Pig Cow anywhere.
Buffalo Chicken And Onion Rings
Onion rings were what my daughter kept craving after seeing them visit other tables she wanted her own! She changed up her side (just ask) and ordered it with her Buffalo Chicken Wraps. Yes she loved it, it’s a perfect combination and the wraps are made with only the finest ingredients, served with checkered wrap, giving it a ‘diner-like’ spin.
General TSO Shrimp Salad
Imagine what you are about to bite into here. This is for those of us on a healthier lifestyle, low glycemic diet. Yes, that is me! So green and so good. The salad was the ‘best of’ I have eaten anywhere in this category!
The veggies are super fresh, and it is hand-crafted. Tasting the slightly spicy shrimp against the cool and crisp lettuce may have been the all-star moment. But there’s more.
I am all about my healthy eating, no matter where I am, and I tried to stay on my healthy lifestyle quest as we traveled this summer. The General TSO salad was the freshest I have ever had and I really appreciated the meatless approach.
Plan on this: the salad is packed with broccoli, romaine, tomatoes, chow mein noodles, cheddar, TSO ranch, and shrimp. It was the perfect food to end a day!
No matter what attraction you are at, or what hotel you are staying in, Manny’s is on the main strip, in the heart of your Sandusky Vacation. It’s really part of the Lake Erie Love, and a trip to Sandusky won’t be complete without a meal here.
Dinner time does get very busy, but somehow they manage to get everyone seated and fed. Tables move, people pack it in and leave and this is truly a destination for those wanting quality food at reasonable prices.
