There’s nothing like a road trip. However, road trips can always be very stressful if you can’t find a pet sitter and your cat needs to come along.
I hate those long faces or moments when Bella jumps in my luggage, begging me not to leave.
If your cats love to travel, you will love the items I use when Bella travels with me.
Remember, your cats are comfort creatures and they too need to be packed properly with all of their essentials before you hit the road.
Use my 5 road tripping essentials when traveling with your cats so they will have everything they will need.
It’s time to travel by car to your favorite stops for vacation and enjoy all of those pet-friendly hotels!
Road Tripping Essentials For Your Cats
I may receive a commission if you purchase something mentioned in this post. See more details here.
Ask me years ago if I would have traveled with a cat and I would have looked at you almost upside down.
Now, fast forward years later and I understand why I got all those looks from people when asked that same question and I responded, “What?”
Traveling with your favorite felines is easier than you might expect.
Trust me, most will ‘Meow’ quite a bit, at the beginning but eventually, they get real chill!
1. Cats Need Fed
Remember, cats need to eat too, so when you feel your tummy rumbling, odds are theirs are too.
It’s time to stop, pull over and eat.
There’s nothing like a stop at a roadside picnic center to really just enjoy a few moments of peace, and tranquility while your cat gets to eat and stretch.
Owning a crossover or an SUV or minivan is a true plus when traveling with your pet.
Space in the back is what is so attractive and perfect for traveling with pets, especially when you need to feed.
I am a huge fan of this waterproof cargo area mat. It lets them eat, spill and be in ONE area, however, if they jump, the next item will help you a lot!
Now is a good time to break out the Net Barrier with a zipper door.
This way, your cat can walk around the back of the car, and you can still get in and out of the front, without the cat(s) climbing out and escaping.
It’s not an expensive purchase but a prudent one, that every cat owner that travels by car, truck, van, crossover, needs.
This is very easy to set up and a solution to let your favorite furry friend roam a bit in the car, van, truck, crossover without letting their shed everywhere.
In fact, it’s the perfect time to offer them a few treats and their meal in a smaller portion.
2. Feeding Time Tools
Speaking of food and treats, you will need an easy way to port along with those items as well as serve them up.
I am a huge fan of this portable, and collapsible set for feeding and carrying at the same time.
Why? It’s small and compact, so nothing takes up much room and further, the weight is super light.
3. Beverages Please
Remember, while your cats can’t talk, they do work up a thirst.
They will be anxious and different than normal when they are on the road.
This, in turn, may increase their thirst. I suggest a case of water, that you can spill into a bowl at any point in time that you stop!
Keep them hydrated and grab a bottle for yourself.
4. Car Portable Litter Box
Did someone say, ‘Bathroom please?” How do you let your cat go to the toilet? Of course, a portable litter box will help.
I suggest this portable littler box, as it is round and folds flat for under a seat.
5. Playtime Please
While cats do tend to snug up into little balls while at home, they are not bound by boundaries.
Being kept-up inside of a carrier is a must while driving, a safety restraint in case of accidents. However, they gotta bust out a bit too.
When you stop, this expandable pet carrier is purrfect for playtime when you stop.
You can open the sides and let them move about, without losing them. As soon as you are ready to get on the move again zip the sides and they are back into their carrier section.
Nice and easy.
These 5 road tripping essentials when traveling with your cats will ease the road ahead for both you and your cats.
Enjoy and safe travels. ~ Dana XO
