Now, I’ll share the 19 bread baking supplies you need to craft simple loaves of bread, and I’ll also share some bonus workarounds!
Even when I had my restaurant I never stocked every tool.
Half the fun of baking is reinventing and using what you have, so you just might find that you have things you can use to bake those perfect loaves of bread!
Bread Baking Supplies
Keeping things simple is how I look at baking a loaf of bread.
If you have ever pulled a wrapper off bread and read what is in it, you might be surprised.
There is a lot of stuff in a loaf of bread you don’t need if you are buying it to consume and eat in just a few days.
But, the thing is in a store, the manufacturers of those bread don’t know when their loaf is going to go home with you, so it has to have ‘stuff’ in it you might not want in you, Preservatives!

When you take your bread out of the oven, you don’t just sit it there, do you?
It needs a cooling rack!
The moisture needs to escape and a cooling rack is your bread’s best friend!
No. 2. ???? Roll Me Out And Make Me
Where are you going to make your bread?
On the counter?
Are you mixing it up on the counter as well?
In fact, that’s not unusual especially as you bake more and more and become more experienced.
Make sure your has the measuring built-in to the mat.
Knead on it, make fondant on it, make your bread on it, and BAKE ON it!
No. 3. Cutting Things Up Like A Pro
When your dough needs divide into a few pieces, how are you going to do that?
My suggestion is a Pro Dough Pastry Scraper.
Easy to use and perfect clean cuts.
Plus you can use it to cut veggies, and measure too!
No. 4. Weigh-In Please
Food Scale for grams, ounces, pounds, etc.

Proofing Baskets get the bread you are making to look better!
Bread baskets come in every price level and every shape.
They are also made out of everything from plastic to bamboo.
Use a colander with a flour sack towel if you don’t have the want to purchase a proofing basket.
No. 7 Rip It Baby!
Ok, so that sounds ridiculous.
Rip it, is a way I am saying to you to use a LAME.
This will let your bread baking to the best bread size it can.
Additionally, for those bread that you want to look rustic .. this is your key tool.
Alternative >> Very Sharp Knife or edge of a razor blade (not a used one!)
No. 7 Le Dutch Oven
For the longest time, I never used the one I owned.
Then, when I began baking bread, the Dutch Oven became my go-to.
No. 8 Measure Much?
A good set of measuring cups can help you up to your game in every part of cooking.
It’s hard for me to say this, being a ‘pinch of this and a splash of that’ kind of girl but when I bake bread… it’s hardcore, measurements for perfection in bread baking.
Don’t forget measuring spoons too!
But if you want measuring spoons and cups that are amazing and list a very fair price for what they are, well this set has both measuring cups and spoons!
No. 9 Parchment For The Win
I think this is like one of those things to buy stock in.
When don’t I reach for parchment paper is more the question?
I rip it up and use it for cupcake liners and muffin baking.
alternatively for cookie baking and for lifting (out of Dutch Oven).
Nonstick is another great piece of this, I mean, the list goes on and on.
If you want me to stop ranting about parchment paper, please buy some!
No. 10 Dough Whisk
When it comes to mixing, my dough whisk is my bestie!
I love it and it can take a beating (lol, a mixing) meaning it is tough and can stand up to dough’s elasticity and movement.
No. 11 Pastry Brush
Oil, egg wash, water!
No. 12 Spray Bottle
No. 13 Roll With It!
Do you have a rolling pin?
Well, you better get one, because you will love what it can do for your dough shaping.
No. 14 Chop. Clip. Snip.
Yeap, kitchen shears are a must, I think I own like 10 pairs and I still don’t have enough.
From slitting bread to chopping herbs these are my go-to!
No. 15 Sift It
Flour, yes flour may need to be sifted to make a lighter, more aerated bread.
There are often times you will use a sieve for cake recipes as well.
No. 16 Pan For Pane and Don’t Forget the Baguettes
However, you may want a few smaller ones as well.
NO. 17. Pizza Stone
Well, I don’t know what I did without this stone for like ever.
It takes on the heat and the bottom of the bread is always crisped to perfection!
My kids love they each get baby round loaves from their own individualized ramekin and I add their own favorite ingredients
Even better, ramekins are perfect for making rolls, that are each equal in size!
No. 19. Le Serrated Knife
So, you’ve baked all this bread and bought all the other essentials to bake bread, how will you cut it?
Invest in a serrated bread knife!
Perfect to cut that crusty, bread and that soft bread too!
