There’s nothing like a morning breakfast party on a Sunday. I heart lighter alcoholic beverages, those famed boozy drinks where you get a nice taste of alcohol but not too much. When it comes to boozy drink features for weekend brunches, it’s about cool and fresh tasting libations.
Every time we have a party, I try to invent a new drink. We prefer to have a drink that is easy to make, light and refreshing. I also love when a drink can have multiple options to achieve a flavor. So, what we came up with is a Sangria that has a bold color and a well-balanced taste. It’s not too strong and it’s definitely not a sweet drink either ( I hate those!).
Boozy or not boozy? It’s wine, it’s fruity and it’s fabulous! Sangria strawberry sippers are a fabulous al fresco cocktail, and a perfect brunch companion. Lavishly live libations out loud, let’s celebrate and create Sangria strawberry sippers!
Sangria Strawberry Sippers
The beauty of this recipe is the fact that strawberries are available year round. Additionally, the ingredients are so versatile that if you can practically change this on the pour per guest! Yes, that easy!
Your 2 base ingredients you can not do without are strawberries and this fabu Sangria in a box. So, for all of you doubters on boxed wine, this one will do you just fine. In fact, if you are headed to a brunch or cocktail party, haul the box, it’s easier to tote. You will have your beverages cranking out before someone with a bottle opener. Your beverages will be loved, and the Sangria is the key!
I happened upon the Sangria by misfire, to be honest. I had traveled into our liquor store (Pittsburgh people), and sampled the sangria. I had gone in to purchase peach brandy and a sparkling wine, but I left with this! Never have I been happier for a change-up on the fly!
The Ingredient Short List
Strawberries – One per guest plus more for chunking.
Ice – I suggest crushed and you need about 1/4 C per Glass
Seltzer Water – Peach, or Mango or Passionfruit all mix well
Sangria Boxed Wine
Tall Glasses
A Few Things
I did several variations of these and all turned out well. For some, I chopped up one strawberry per glass and then cleaned and cut a berry in half (not all the way) for the glass decor. However, on other trials of this, I did as you see photos, simply ice, seltzer, sangria and a berry on the glass.
All of the options are totally up to you. What do you have time for, and do you want fruit floating in the glass. Were berries at a premium price? Or were they so small that putting them in the glass made more sense?
Seltzer water flavors do no matter much. I will say that I stayed in the berry family because of the finishing notes on this Sangria from Black Box actually were more berry in nature. I have tried this with black cherry seltzer, and it turns out amazing. Today I used this mango and passion fruit mixture with a berry garnish and all good too.
My personal favorite, however, is peach seltzer. The Peach truly pulls the drink flavors together, but they all do work well.
Pouring
I am a free hand kind of girl, and measuring cups just bore me. A pinch of this, a drop of that, all work well and this recipe is that kind of recipe.
HOW TO MAKE THE DRINK
Therefore, I eyeball a glass, fill the bottom with ice, I will call that 1/4 full. I move on and add in the seltzer, about 1/2 way, remember I told you this drink is meant to be light and refreshing and the seltzer half way is key! If you are adding in fruit, add it in now and then pour the sangria, stir and enjoy!
The Result
It’s an easy to make drink, you can make it as strong as you want or as soft as you want. The Seltzer is key to lightening the beverage. Lavishly live libations out loud and enjoy this fun drink! Cheers!
