3 Simple Ways To Celebrate Earth Day
I promised you these ideas are SIMPLE and I mean simple. Not many have time on their hands, so see if these fit into your life and join in on the Earth Day celebration
PLANT A TREE
The one simple thing I do each and every year is plant a tree to honor Earth Day.
You can find trees of every size and family at your local nursery, large retailer or home improvement store. Planting one tree and caring for it, is a great way to give back to our earth.
Reuse A Plastic Bag
It all starts with reuse of things we already have and what household does not have plastic bags from a store purchase? Plastic bags can be used for kitty box litter scooping, for collecting old newspapers and placing together for recycling, and even as in-home garbage can liners.
Have a boot that leaks but love them? Use a plastic bag to keep your foot dry. Are you mailing a package? Scrunch a lot of these up, rather than packing foams and allow them to buffer the goods in the package. The uses are endless and you are helping by reusing.
Buy Energy Star Efficient Appliances
This is actually a dual benefit to the environment as well as your financial bottom line. Outdated appliances, those you have had in the house for over 10+ years really are not energy efficient. Times change, appliances are updated and ENERGY STAR is where your savings of both Earth and Money begins.
REFRIGERATORS & ENERGY STAR
With recent improvements in insulation and compressors, today’s refrigerators use so much less energy than the older models. ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators allow you to maximize your energy and dollar savings without sacrificing the features you want. Win, Win!
Did you know that ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators are about 9-10 percent more energy efficient than models that meet the federal minimum energy efficiency standard?
Get rid of that OLD Refrigerator and grab great features coupled with bigger savings.
Here’s an interesting fact:
An estimated 170 million refrigerators and refrigerator-freezers are currently in use in the United States. More than 60 million refrigerators are over 10 years old, costing consumers $4.7 billion a year in energy costs” In fact, ENERGY STAR Certified refrigerators use less energy and reduce our environmental impact.
Fact: If all refrigerators sold in the United States were ENERGY STAR certified, the energy cost savings would grow to more than $400 million each year and 8 billion pounds of annual greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented, equivalent to the emissions from 750,000 vehicles! Astounding results from a simple switch.
First you need to properly recycling your old refrigerator. Then Replace it with a new ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator, and you will find a potential savings of between, $35–$300 on energy costs over its lifetime. Use the ENERGY STAR Savings Calculator to find out exactly how much money you’ll save by replacing your existing refrigerator.
REPLACE YOUR REFRIGERATOR
Protect the environment. with an ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator, because it uses less energy and helps us reduce our impact on the environment. You can find these great refrigerators at Best Buy where Earth Day is everyday.

I love the idea of planting a tree! We just did this and it was really fun.
what a great post with awesome ideas. thanks for sharing.
These are great tips. I love the planting a tree idea. I’ll have to do that next year.
I agree with one of the above commenters – every day should be treated like it is Earth Day. However, I love the idea of planting a tree. I have a garden plot, but have never planted something so permanent. I would also loooooove to be able to buy energy efficient appliances.
I totally agree. I’m trying to think of ways we can be more green. For one I’d like to learn how to make my own wet wipes. I do struggle with wondering if more water consumption due to using the washing machine and dryer more is a good trade for paper use. I think it is, cuz I don’t want to cut down trees.
Some great ways to celebrate Earth Day I like the idea of planting a tree unfortunately I have 20 something trees on my yard already.
I think every day should be earth day! We do our part by recycling as much as possible!
One of our favorite things to do to celebrate Earth Day is to plant a tree. This year we planted 3 fruit trees in our yard and the kids even got to help. We’re so excited to watch them grow and fruit!
And you forgot to include to always clean the surroundings. Nothing is worse for mother nature to be surrounded by garbage and junks. Thanks for the great reminder.
These are really great ideas. We planted some seeds for Earth Day and picked up trash around our town.
these are all great ideas for celebrating Earth Day. We planted two small trees in our yard in honor of this special day.
We try and cut down on our gas and electricity costs simply to keep them under control. For the environment we go meatless at least once or twice a week. We shop locally and we plant items that are bird, bug and bee friendly 🙂
These are great ideas. My friend does an electricity free evening on Earth Day. She turns the lights out. No TV or tech and lights candles instead. Then she plays board games with her kids. I need to do that when my kids are older.
Love earth day. I try to get my kids to help me clean up our neighbourhood many times of year, and this earth day we went out tidying up. I always use reusable bags when I’m out shopping!
These are some great ideas, I always try and go for the most energy efficient products I can these days – as it saves on bills as well! x
These are all simple ways to celebrate Earth Day for sure. Loving this post for ideas. Have a Happy Belated Earth Day !
I practice the first two ways a lot, the last is a bit expensive, but hoping some day to upgrade… great tips!
We always reuse plastic bags. I love the look of that kitchen collection, it’s very elegant.
These are all great ideas. There are so many things that you can do to celebrate Earth Day. I love reusing the plastic grocery sacks. There is so many things that you can do with them.
