I am currently investigating great packing tips and tricks and incorporating mine and I will be offering you a great review of luggage that is perfect for mom, dad and kids, so stay tuned, but in the meantime here are few tips and tricks that should help you pack up for a great trip!
Packing is a huge part of traveling and you have to do it right in order to get the luggage closed. I know last year I walked into one of my kid’s rooms only to find that he had packed EVERYTHING he owned in the bag and he was sitting on it and he said, “Mommy, I can’t leave my stuff and I don’t want anything to feel left out, so I packed it all!”. Needless to say, after a few hours of picking his room back up, and cleaning his room, I decided that I would be the only one packing from here on out.
I used tissue paper to pack in between clothing that I don’t want crushed, it really does a nice job in diffusing the weight displacement and taking care of things. I pack and roll items that can actually be rolled, and that includes tees, undies, socks, hoodies and so on. I get creative with items that need folded and I stack 2 pieces together, especially a shirt and a pair of jeans that I might wear together or have pre-determined for the kids. Placing items together is really great for those nights after the park, where we decide to go out and the kids want to know how to dress, I just say grab one of the outfits I already put together! Easy Peasy!
We have used bags before that suck the air out, only to find that they somehow become compensated and fail us, so never again. We have tried to roll all the clothes and that is an epic fail, but we have found something you can do that will help; for each shoe packed, stuff socks in the shoes so you get 2x as much out of the space. If you have pockets on jeans and have kids or ladies lingerie, simply place it in the pockets, because it is small, and rolls easily.
Eagle Creek has a great line of packing cubes that I have used as well, these keep everything neat, tidy and organized. I also use rollable shoes, by Konvine, you can read my review on these slick shoes and you won’t believe how great these are to pack. Don’t forget to check out the great Pacsun backpack I will be using and all its amazing features to stay safe in an amusement park and airport.
Ball up socks, this keeps the socks together and no one is scampering for them through the bags. I also make sure that I place shoes in plastic bags, and this serves 2 purposes. One, we have been somewhere before where there were no trash bags, we take the shoes out of the bags and they become trash bags. Two, shoes are dirty and have been all over the ground, I don’t want those germs touching my clean clothes or the footmarks of a shoe on my clothing. Reusing a plastic bag is super frugal and has many purposes. In addition, if you travel with kids, road sickness happens, we have had no bags, except in the luggage and we had to drive on. We stopped, grabbed a shoe bag, and the kids had a bag to puke in if it had to happen. While this is worse-case scenario at least it solves a possible issue and being prepared ahead of time is a big old bonus when you are traveling with kids.
