It gets a bit hectic this time of year, it’s hockey winding down, or really gearing up as tourneys are on and summer league is getting scheduled. I do believe a few of the hockey coaches have been bumped in the head one too many times with a hockey puck because of their pure inconsideration towards their players. Here’s the deal, over-hearing and listening in to a few conversations as I spend much of my natural life at the ice arena, it is kind of hard to pass this juicy-for-discussion stuff up! I have to bite my lip to keep my mouth sealed shut when I hear a coach with obvious ignorance of player’s feelings, scheduling too many kids for the team they have created. Here’s how hockey parents lavishly live coaches big mouths out loud!
So, it’s time for summer league, guess what, the mom standing next to me had a coach approach her. He was going on and on about putting this ladies two boys on his team because they were so close in age. He was telling this lady that her kids could both be on his team, and it would be the best team around(yeah right, that’s what they all say… and for a buck I’ll sell you a Mercedes!) About one hour later, again standing by her, just by chance, she was fuming angry because the coach tooted out an email wheresoever in between their conversation and their game! It went like this, ” I know I just told you kids they could play on my team, I am sorry I already have enough players and don’t need anymore, everyone has taken my offer!” Stunned, like from a stun gun, she said a few unmentionables on my PG-13 blog and then she let the crap roll down hill, as she loaded her friend’s ear and of course I listened in, I mean she is a hockey mom and rather loud!
Alright, what is this hockey mom about to do? Actually her gut reaction: “grab the closest hockey stick and bash this hockey coaches xx##$% in!(so she shared with all of us there) What does she really do? This mom disguises her true feelings of HATE(that she spelled out in no uncertain terms to her GF standing next to her) and when the kids came up and said they were telling their other teammates they were on summer league, she said, “you know I think we should find a better team, and a different coach, maybe it’s time to challenge you a bit more this year!”
I loved it, because the kids got excited, forgot about asking for that coach anymore and she soothed it right over. I do believe she took it worse than they did! This mom never missed a beat, but I do have the feeling that if she happens to be loading a car with the hockey gear, or passing into the building and has the kids stick, he might be a likely candidate for a TRIP and there will be no ref around to settle it! She made me snicker, laugh and she really is the epitome of a hockey mom. This mom is a pretty even-keeled person(I know her from the rink) but this really made her upset, and I get why. She had reasoned out that mistakes happen, but like she said, “He should have put hockey tape on his mouth and left it shut before trying to roster kids he had no intent of taking!” I guess he well knew that he had no room, and it would have been a bit less of a story for me had this all not happened. While hardly are all coaches as cold, and puck hit in the head as this one, … this was just one story and rather fun to tell. As for that coach, he must have been nailed in the head with puck, because he never considered that he might have actually upset a kid that really has potential, but again.. how does a player settle that? Simply put, Shoot, and score! Lavishly live hockey out loud with a few puck head coaches and some really tough hockey moms! I have to thank her for her candor one day when I see her again, she really refreshed my faith!
