One of the biggest challenges of traveling is dining with kids. When your family needs to eat, finding a facility that has something for everyone is not always easy and if you are traveling with kids that have allergies it actually creates a burden, unless of course you know where to dine. While we were recently in the Orlando area on an extended vacation we ate lunch at one very trendy, very delicious Earl of Sandwich. There is so much parking and so much shopping that this is a one stop must! You can take the water taxi’s about and you can shop till you drop. Here is how we lavishly lived food out loud, allergen free, gluten free and all very delicious in Downtown Disney!
Traveling, kids and Orlando, that has been my theme for the last few weeks and with good reason, we spent many fun days in Florida. Before we went and while we were there, we spent a lot of time visiting, and learning about places that might be good or bad to visit and if you have a family, I have a new place for your consideration: Earl Of Sandwich. Do you have anyone in your dining party that is finicky? Gluten Free? Has Nut Allergies? IF you have anyone in your travel party that likes to eat well, this is a must stop destination in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, right in the heart of Downtown Disney.
As you know my daughter eats an entirely Gluten-Free Menu and my son has so many allergies it makes dining out almost impossible if I don’t investigate ahead. We discovered a great way to visit Downtown Disney and eat well all in one felt swoop. First of all I might preface this and tell you that the parking at Downtown Disney Market is free and if you are not visiting Disney, you can see a lot of the things you see in Disney, free of charge in this area. There is music, plenty of walking and many places to dine. Our stop was for Earl Of Sandwich, but we had a really great time hanging out in this area. If you have kids, teens, tweens that need a little freedom, but you want to still keep them closer to you, this is your stop.
We dined at Earl of Sandwich and my nut allergic son, and Gluten Free daughter dined without any hiccups. My daughter had plenty of choices and my son was thrilled to have a sandwich as basic as a Grilled Cheese, but presented in a nice wrap. The bread was airy, crisp and light, yet filling. The contents were perfect, you can see how the cheese was melted on the Canonballs and the Caprese boasted a Balsamic Dressing that sent my taste buds singing. My husband claimed victory with the Italian and my daughter loved the Berry, Chicken Almond Salad. The cookies were NUT FREE so my son ate his own Chocolate Chip Cookie which is a rarity for him. The centers were moist, the outside crisp and each one had plenty of chocolate chips. The chips we dined on ranged from Kettle Cooked to Crisps and they made the lunch even better. You can refill your drinks if you like and there is plenty of seating, trust me we were there during peak dining time(12:15 on a Sunday) and we found seating for 5 without a problem. You can dine inside or out, of course that is dependent on the weather. When you sit outside you will be able to hear music that is played elsewhere in the shopping area.
If you are looking for multiple choices of sandwiches to provide each of your vacationers, this is a must stop. For a family you can expect to spend about $6 per sandwich, $2 per cookie. This is less than any sandwich you will find in the park and the sandwich will meet and exceed your eating expectations. The ordering process is easy: 1) order with register one(your sandwich) 2)add your extras, chips, cookies, drinks and pay at register 2, and pick up when your light up pager lets you know it is time. We stood in a line that wrapped around a few times and we were in it for no more than about 15 minutes total. This was perfect for the kids because they washed up ahead, grabbed the drinks, napkins and so forth.
The Earl Of Sandwich has great hand-crafted sandwiches that would be perfect to tote into the parks and dine on while you are enjoying your day. Teens, Tweens, kids of all ages and adults will enjoy the immense menu. As an added bonus those with allergies can enjoy the salads because many are Gluten Free and the cookies(at least at present) were nut free. Get ready to dine on delicious artisan sandwiches and get rid of that hunger.
You can lavishly live food out loud if you stop here. The cheese is fresh, the bread amazing and the prices very fair, considering the area! Get ready to dine and relax!
