Communication between individuals is the beginning point of all discussion and discussion is only candid and fun when it is real, lively, and offered with genuine banter. Interviews are often dull, lackluster and really never get to the core of who someone is. Conversely, the day we interviewed Emily Blunt and James Corden, at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, California a most real, candid and telling discussion became and I had the opportunity to see both Emily Blunt and James Corden in a most open and honest manner, while discussing life, kids, parenting and of course the Into The Woods Movie! Get honest with James Corden and Emily Blunt! Lavishly living entertainment out loud and meeting up with two co-stars of the movie here’s the interview.
Today I was lucky enough to meet the mommy bloggers and I gotta tell you. They are AWESOME!

During this Christmas holiday, Into The Woods opened in theaters everywhere, treating everyone who attended a musical feast for their ears!
About Into The Woods
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them. Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall.
James Corden & Emily Blunt
To say that the volume in our room was loud is a great way to describe the tenacity, the vivaciousness and the energy that entered the room when Emily Blunt and James Corden playfully joined our Mommy Blogger group and entertained with great HONEST insight on their views of their movie Into The Woods and life!
If you have seen the movie you know that their onscreen chemistry is great, but to see them chat together, you really get to the essence of their chemistry: playful, fun, joking that works well with their rather serious quest and ‘battle’ against The Witch, in Into The Woods.
Keeping things light, Emily explained that she and James went back years knowing one another, in fact they had met at a polo match, and he was actually the first person she ever sang in front of, so she was so happy when Rob Marshall told her, that her onscreen partner was James Corden! Emily discussed the importance of their characters having an onscreen chemistry:
“I knew that this couple needed to have real lifelong, shorthand chemistry, ease with each other and, and you needed to believe in them, You needed to believe that they’ve been together forever.” and Emily knew they already had this!
Of course James made us laugh and as Emily went on discussing that they were, ‘small town folk’ and that there were not a lot of “options” for mate picking, James interrupted with: “Okay? There’s never not options if you’re rocking this.”(obviously pointing to himself and making us all laugh!) This was the tone of our whole interview, fun, and light-hearted with two very DEEP characters from the movie.
Did you know that James Corden and Emily Blunt are both parents? They understand the value of truth telling, being honest and interacting with kids and the impact that honesty can have on a child. What you may not know, or have even heard is that Emily Blunt was pregnant when filming this movie. In fact, Emily Blunt said the following: “Well, it’s funny because I found out I was having a baby when I when I found out I had the part, but I was thinking well, she’s the baker’s wife, so it doesn’t matter if I gain a few pounds.”
Speaking of Bread…..
The bread actually looks so delicious, so I could not resist asking if in fact they ate some of that bread they were ‘baking’?
My Question: Did you try any of that bread? It looked really delicious?
Emily & James in fact both learned how to make and bake bread. They told us that they made some bread, that they learned how to make in bread making sessions, so they got the action of rolling the bread right. James said: “We had these bakers come in- this is what they do on films. We should teach you how to bake. And it’s, four hours” but none of this is in the film.
Now it was not just about the bread, we also talked about the message of the movie and both James and Emily found one resounding message: HONESTY.
James said: ” I think there’s an honesty in the film which has made me want to be more honest with my children, like, from the get-go, the great message in the film of,…. be careful what wish for, and sometimes the very thing you wish for is not the thing that you need in a world where we seem to have told children that this happily ever after does exist, and we all know it doesn’t.” James continued on, with some very solid words to add to this foundation of honesty, “And I feel like- that’s not to say you won’t be happy, but like that song, No One is Alone. you might feel like you’re completely on your own in the world. You will feel like you are completely alone, and you’re not. ” James continued on a bit with a few more compelling words, including a reminder that life has mistakes in it, and these are just going to happen, but what you live through makes you stronger! He is quite right because we learn through our mistakes as adults and kids!
James lighter side allows you to remember that even with bleak circumstances, you can persevere and succeed. He is fun, enchanting, and kind, making him super interesting to listen to as he speaks. The candor of his discussion offers an approachable, person whom you feel like you can ask anything, and trust me, he is bounds-off when he chats!
Emily offered this great, honest and quite telling insight: “I just feel that it’s important to teach your children that life is not always going to be easy, you know, and that is what this film is about.”
Do you see what I mean about honest? Each James and Emily have a handle on LIFE and their no-nonsense perspectives allows them to play their parts perfectly as they both have the reality of what is, and what can be….
As Emily stated it, that when people behave badly they have a comeuppance and fairy tales have a lighter way of showing the reality of bad behavior. Emily is very real, telling and passionate when she talks about life, kids and the movie, making her even more endearing!
The dark ahead is not always dark, but honesty creates a light that makes the path easier to navigate! Into The Woods is a great way to remember that no one is ever truly alone and to be honest with each other and your kids! Lavishly live the reality of life out through a fairy tale that your entire family can celebrate & James as much fun as you had meeting us, right back at you! What a blast and thanks James and Emily!
