Boo to you, and wait until you see what wicked concoctions you can brew up with these spooky, different looking fruits and veggies from Frieda’s Specialty Produce! I am a produce girl, if it’s produce, I eat it! I look for the unusual, the different and apparently now the spooky! Proceed with caution as they are prickly, have spines, crazy colors, and gooey insides, all with insane taste and intense color! Black, orange, purple, yellow and deep red the colors of fall are all in the Spooky Produce Crop Frieda’s Specialty Produce has ready to haunt your home with!
I am ready to fend off those vampires as I consumed the evil, ugly, black garlic by the slice and I can now breathe on them and they will keel over with one swoosh of my breathe! It has a different taste, and some of even saying it resembles ‘balsamic’. This is the latest and greatest garlic and I did not just put it in sauce. I sampled, tasted and got ready to burn vampires that are coming to visit! The aged garlic turns black and has a soft, chewy texture. Indeed this is wickedly sweet.
This has so many hands it reminds me of Ursula the Witch, but, its fragrance of lemon-orange is amazing. While it looks creepy it zests up a vodka tonic and salads quite well. I broke off a ‘hand’ and zested it into a spring leaf salad which zipped up the citrus flavor. This is an aromatic citrus, that is really not peel-able, but you can use zest it into foods or drinks. This is all rind and pith.
The Rambutan were even more odd as it could have passed for an eyeball once peeled. The peel actually had the kids intrigued.
These are simple to peel, you basically cut and peel with a knife. These are cousins to the Lychee. We ate these one by one until the bag disappeared! Once you are in the white flesh is grape-like sweet, but you have to nibble around it and not dig in too deep with your teeth as there is an inedible seed on the inside.
The outside of this looks like a burr but it is not really that jabby.
With a squishy, ishy, green, gooey inside, this fruit could pass for Jello with seeds in it. The fleshy, green goo definitely is sweet and reminded me of lime jello(sins lime flavor), but there are seeds in through it. (and yes, I said, “ishy, gooey”!)
The seeds go down without a challenge, and add to the goo. I rinsed ours, I did not refrigerate FRIEDA! We cut it down long ways and scooped out as well as cut into little smiley face pieces. The outside has little thorns on it, so don’t be evil and chuck this fruit at someone!
If you have a zest for the unusual at your Halloween gatherings, you can serve up these great purple and orange Cauliflower. Mix them together for a great looking dish, veggie platter and so on. I cut ours up and served them marinated raw in an Italian herb dressing. Crunchy, with a light, nutty flavor is what these great veggies have to offer in addition to healthful benefits of low calorie veggie munching! Healthy can be fun, funky and spooky and Frieda’s can help you get your Halloween Freak on with this collection of spooky veggies.
