I believe the only way to truly vest your trust into something is to experience it, so I headed on over to the LongHorn Steakhouse. My trip to the LongHorn Steakhouse is to validate them as the authority in great grilling. Saddle up y’all we are about to go on a food-eating frenzy with the grilling experts.
We mosied on into our local McCandless LongHorn Steakhouse, met up with Karen Weil the Managing Partner

The Grillmasters Go To Work For My Family
What’s On My Plate? A Caesar Salad (very delicious), a Southern Mule filled, and Red Rock Shrimp!
Red Rock Shrimp offers 1 dozen jumbo grilled shrimp that are glazed in a delectable smoky tomato butter. The rice has a melted garlic butter on it and the meal is awesome. Grilled shrimp that are succulent and perfectly cooked, allowing the juice to plump in my mouth!
Flo’s Filet
The tender center-cut of beef, very lean but over-the-top on moist and mouth-watering. I heard the discussion at my table that it was like butter. Flo’s filet is hand seasoned meaning you can get this as bold or as light as you prefer, but definitely cooked to perfection!
Renegade Sirloin & Half Baby Back Ribs
It’s not just about steak at LongHorn Steakhouse it’s all about great cuts of meat grilled to perfection and the Renegade Sirloin & Half Baby Back Ribs sets the tone! This platter combination is not for the light-hearted, go big or go home is the way to describe this fortress of meat

Does that steak look tremendous? You got this!
Get Your Grilling Game on BEFORE the Game: Tailgate Tips
- Prep whatever you can the day before. For example, skewer the meat, slice the vegetables and pack your car.
- Arrive four to five hours in advance of the game to give yourself enough time to set up and eat.
- Prep your surface. Ensure your grill is hot (500°F) and cleaned with a wire brush. Place your hand 3 inches above the grates, and if you need to pull away before you count to 3, it’s ready to start grilling!
It’s Game-Time Baby!
- Boldly season. Don’t be shy when seasoning your steak! Try “The Big 4” – salt, pepper, granulated onion powder and garlic powder – coat both sides of the steak well.
- Make sure you let your steaks rest for 1-2 minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to settle back into the meat, resulting in optimal flavor.
- Prevent sticking. Before you put anything on your grill, rub the grates with a clean hand towel dipped in a small amount of canola oil. Use your tongs to handle the towel to avoid burning your hand.
- Grill tools. Keep everything you need within reach: metal spatula, heavy duty metal tongs, a good grill brush and a small spray bottle (used to douse any flare-ups).
The Aftermath Tailgate Tips
- Don’t forget to turn the grill off when you leave your tailgate to go into the game! Turn the gas off or cool and dump the charcoals in an appropriate receptacle—a metal bucket will work.
- Put leftovers on ice in your cooler so you have an after game snack while you’re waiting for the traffic to subside.
Never Forget Grill Safety
- Propane and charcoal grills should only be used outdoors.
- The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. And lastly, never leave your grill unattended.
