One thing we are not guaranteed is another day. No matter who believes they are invincible they are wrong. What we are is a human, with a heart, and a body that needs tended to 24/7. I am not a Doctor and the info I am about to provide is based on my personal experience. Seek medical advice before starting anything new supplements, vitamins or medicines.
That said, let me share with you, what has me going green and what I have been doing to help my body. I discovered a Super Food.
You have come to know me over the years, but if you are new, you need to know that I eat Clean and healthy.
Over the last few years, I’ve had more migraines and weight fluctuation, thyroid issues, and stomach illness than I care to discuss.
My trips to the doctor have monopolized my life and as far as medicine goes, not ONE of these doctors plays nice with the other, they all disagree with issues and how to treat.
What does DANA do to win this nonstop struggle of not feeling well and dealing with doctors that might as well NOT be doctors due to lack of treatment?
She goes green and takes on her body without a medical degree. After all, when you really want to get something done, do it yourself.
Helping Your Body Go GREEN
When you finally can’t take anymore of the doctors telling you everything but really telling you nothing, that’s the most defining moment. I have never had so much disdain towards a profession overall.
One doctor tells you not to take what the other gives you. One disagrees with dosing, and others want EVERY Test run for very specific ailments that are NOT even on the board.
Seriously. So many people have done what I am doing and been successful.
I am working on myself, piece by piece. Testing, with supplements, that are all on the market, and have lots of discussion.
Many may not have a lot of science behind them, but let’s face it, those in science are not helping me. A gamble in front of me either way and I’m betting on me, for the win!
What Is Going On In My Body?
My stomach hurts with weird burning issues, and I am constantly nauseous. Rushed into colonoscopies and endoscopes where they try to scare the hell out of you and end up with NO answers (Thank God) because nothing they can find is really wrong.
I’ve had endoscopes, digestive tests, allergy tests and none of the doctors are helping. One prescribes a medicine to fix ‘A’ while the other takes away the prescribed and tries something else to help me. After too many doctors visits, I threw my hands up in the air and took over my own body!
For years, at pregnancy and after pregnancy my body ‘flirts’ with pre-diabetes numbers even with my eating habits. I’ll even go one further, I’ve left my endocrinologist, actually 3 so far because NONE of them have helped.
The Point That I Just Wanted To Smack Her With Her Clipboard She Carries
I know this sounds So wrong and I should not say it, let’s be honest, there was and is no way to get HER attention, so maybe a felt swoop would snag her UNDIVIDED attention would do it.
Also I pity the person married to this one-sided conversationalist. He must have duct tape over his mouth 24/7 cause there’s no room for anyone else in the room but her motor mouth.
In fact, one was discussing my liver health, and the liver health she was describing has nothing to do with alcohol, because I’m not that girl. My wine consumption is when I travel or head out not a daily occurrence. She was discussing liver health from battles with insulin.
Further, she kept talking AT ME, giving me a list of APPROVED FOODS, ignoring my food tracker that I shared with her, to SHOW her what I actually eat. Ignoring my daily step tracker that exceeds the amounts and sharing the exercise.
Instead she just kept telling me I can do better. Perhaps I can do better if I just eat dirt and water was what I took away because all the proteins she was offering me were meats and the exercise that I am doing ‘did not count’. “Go Walk Dana!”
Hello, you over-educated, under communicative creature!!!!!!! I walk, exercise, eat ALL the right foods, my body is not responding how about LISTENING to me and stopping all your biases and attempt to help me.
Let’s send you to the kidney, urologist, psychologist, allergist, ENT, cardiac, and any other doctor we can find so they can handle it. Also, let’s get about 25 vials of blood drawn and see that nothing is wrong because I really don’t know what I am doing.
I read the numbers and see it might be insulin as that is the ONLY number elevated, but I will ignore that and send you everywhere else because You don’t have a life. How’s that DANA??
How about this…..You go in my place. Be their pin cushion, find nothing and then end up STILL Feeling sick! Now, it’s time to Go Green!
Helping Your Body Go GREEN
I am a steadfast vegetarian, who enjoys an avocado a day, pounds the tennis court daily for at least 1 hour a day and I drink my daily allowance and MORE of water. What sucks… none of this makes a difference in my body, my weight or achieving goals of inches loss and maintaining me.
The truth of the matter is, the foods I eat, apparently look so awful my family gets upset for me. None of the clean eating, exercising or trips to the doctor have or are helping me. They all say that they would NEVER eat what I do.
So far, the success other than basic weight loss has been all. Yes, that is good, but you can only lose so much with clean eating and exercise. Something else is wrong, and I am about to balance it all out!
It’s ok though, they get it, they just feel like I am missing out on a lot of the fun foods. Before you jump to assumptions too, I do splurge with a few bites of fun stuff here and there like when I am traveling. I am a culinary travel girl and if I am going to share it with you I eat it!
What’s On My Plate?
Green Food – Avocado
My first going green piece of advice, is to eat a SMALL avocado a day. I do that. A few years back, my PCP told me my bad cholesterol was slightly elevated. How is that even possible? He said, “exercise more, eat better!” Again, I gotta be honest, there’s no more room for any of that, I do it. But, because he’s a good doctor, I tried something, I added in an Avocado a day.
Now, I will not add in a Large avocado, that’s too much in the way of calories and good fats. I buy my avocado minis at Trader Joe’s. Setting 3 out a few days a head of each other so they are ready to go.
Tip *** always SCRUB the outside of the skin of an avocado to wash away ‘listeria’ your knife touches the skin then the inside flesh so scrub to avoid.
Avocados offer wonderful doses of fiber, monounsaturated fatty acids (the ones you want to fight bad cholesterol), and potassium. That said, they are a latex veggie so if you have latex allergies theses are NOT an option.
There’s folate in an avocado (that makes red blood cells!) Additionally and as already mentioned there’s more potassium than a banana! Of course fiber and good cholesterol, but that’s just the beginning!
How To Eat An Avocado?
I eat my avocados, sliced, chunked, smashed, and as deconstructed toast. Meaning, no toast, yet smashed.
Top it off with ‘everything but the bagel’ that I originally bought at Trader Joe’s but found a huge refill container of at Costco for 1/2 the price (love to Costco).
Sometimes I top an chopped or smashed avocado with both lemon and hot sauce or just one or the other. It’s my every morning treat.
When I want to get ‘crazy’ I refrigerate my ripened avocado because it’s so refreshing.
Do not expect me to talk smoothies because I hate THICK substances and would never promote that. I eat it straight up, with cucumbers, chopped carrots or on Ezekiel bread.
Finally, I use Avocado oil on my salads. The taste is different but adding a spritz of lemon (or more by taste) and a touch of salt, you will find a winning combination! I do NOT fry with it. (veggies)
Getting Even Greener
I’ve been taking Chlorophyll supplements via liquid drops. No, I am not nuts, Chlorophyll has antioxidants and vitamins that our bodies crave. Does it taste gross? Nope? Here’s the deal, initially I was like, ‘Holy #^$* how am I gonna get this down.?’
Then I thought about it, I bought it, there’s no going back, bottoms up, and Go Green. Since I have so many un-diagnosed stomach issues that have ruined so many trips I have been on for work, I am working on getting my sick stomach under control.
Did you know that Chlorophyll can eliminate fungus from the body and detox blood? Those are just a few reasons to take it.
But, wait because the one that caught my attention had nothing to do with me, but seriously does get rid of bad odors.
Sweating is a bi-product of exercise, so I am like, let’s see what it does. B-I-N-G-O it’s a winner. Sweat and no odor. Really? Yeah. I mean sweating is good, smelling is not. While I am on this, if you want a laugh, I was on a trip with a colleague and I want to MAIL her a bottle because DAMN.. Nuf’ Said!
How Does It Taste?
So, when I put a full dropper full into my 16 oz of water, I held my breathe and said, ‘Sip Sip Hooray!’ I smelled a light wafting of mint, which quickly disappeared. The water was liquid, but then tasted dry.
Next, it went from bland to light mint to almost milk of magnesia tasting as the last part of the tasting note and then it went down into my belly! No it does not give diarrhea. Let’s be clear, I am not promoting, just explaining I have learned.
Why Chlorophyll? Which One?
All I understand so far is that blood passes through the liver, and chlorophyll should aid detoxing the blood. Perhaps it helps Fatty Liver? Let me set you up however for what you need to know, it is possible that you will see green when it exits.
Finally, I know it helps my energy, I am not feeling sluggish. Again, I have to tell you this, ” I have doubled the water I am drinking.” What I noticed is that since I started taking this is that I need to drink even more.
However, I drink a lot of water already, I just keep sipping. It’s totally natural and not here to harm me, so if energy is what I am gaining, I am fine with that. Do not Just order any supplements, read, and learn what others are saying.
My shopping has been between the Vitamin Shoppe and Amazon. It takes about 30 drops like I said before, and a bottle lasts months! You might be pleasantly surprised with this Go Green find.
Ceylon Cinnamon
There are 2 kinds of cinnamon on the market, one is suggested to use to help maintain normal blood glucose which I seem to battling. The other will harm your liver.
So, Ceylon is the GOOD cinnamon.
You can investigate this on your own, I have been using it for 12 weeks now. I will continue to use, until my next round of blood tests I want to see what happens.
Have I noticed any differences in my physical being? Not to date, but I am more concerned with the reality of the upcoming blood tests.
My ONLY suggestion is to shove this sucker down with loads of water. I have had ONE get stuck in my throat and when I burped it…. I burped a puff of cinnamon, totally YUCK and almost
stopped me from continuing.
However, I am looking for a lower reading in the ‘sugar’ arena when I get this blood test. It’s been rumored as a miracle supplement. Let’s see!
There’s More To My Journey
There’s a whole lot more I have not told you, I will share as I see the results, but for now these 2 pieces are critical in going green and making big changes. Have I seen weight loss with this? No, but I am not supposed to.
Have I experienced more energy? Yes I have. Will I know more after a series of blood tests? Yes and I will update you then!
Always speak to your Doctor first. Remember, I am NOT a doctor, this is just what is currently working for me. I did speak with my PCP and he is Very open to me working with supplements, my clean diet and exercise. He’s very progressive and he, himself has found remedy to his health in food fasting for 12+ hours at a time and then very low carb. You get it, someone that gets me!
