In this episode of Dana Vento.Com I find myself having a hard time figuring out where to dine out. As I have shared with you endlessly, going out to eat is often a challenge in my home as my children have food issues(gluten-free necessary), and I don’t eat meat(Vegtarian), making menu choices as well as dining out fairly limited. Often, end up constructing a meal made of of side dishes and in general our servers are often short-tempered because I am ordering a bunch of sides. My question is, “why are choices that I create at home, not available in a restaurant such as edamame beans, hummus, grilled pitas, veggie burgers, Margherita pizza with plenty of Roma tomatoes, and nice seafood dishes that are not fried?” Trying to lavishly live life dining out is not so lavish sometimes and then there are the other challenges. Houlihan’s is ready to meet the challenge.
Houlihan’s and Gluten Free Dining
Gluten-free eating, is yet another challenge at restaurants as they often look at us with a blank stare when we ask about Gluten Free Fare as though we are from another planet and there is no such food. Add Gluten Free questions to the want and need for Vegetarian dining and your night out quickly fades to a night in or a salad bar only situation. If you really want to stretch this I love steamed, grilled and roasted veggies, not oiled and butter laden, which makes me a calorie conservative therefore I become the incredible PIA that is out dining. I watch my calories because after losing lots of weight after a battle with a thyroid malfunction. I choose to keep the weight off, so where might I go to find Vegetarian, Gluten-Free meals, craveabe lighter fares? Houlihan’s!
Was I delighted to see the new menu that Houlihan’s rolled out for a limited time, but if we talk about it enough or even add suggestions my guess is we will see an even more intensified menu offering more Gluten Free and Vegetarian choices. The menu at Houlihan’s makes me wonder if they have known me my whole life before we ever met as they offer foods that I crave and they make them without all the excess fats making them a premiere dining destination for any foodie that is Gluten Free, Vegetarian or dining on a restricted calorie diet. You can still eat, and enjoy, look at what I indulged on.
My daughter and I enjoyed the exact same dinner as it was Gluten Free for her and just smashingly delicious, the olive oil perfectly compliments the risotto and the arugula offers a taste that creates a light texture when eaten against the risotto. This platter is the Seared George Bank Scallops dinner and let me tell you, George Banks can sear my scallops any night of the week because these were fabulous! The asparagus are sliced almost as though they were scallions and it makes them perfectly bite size and done just right, while not providing choking chunks that need cut. A perfect meal.
Our server was also great and I want to mention this because she had no idea that I was writing an article so she had no ‘heads up’ she was just sweet. We informed her of all allergies ahead of time and when she came back to the table with salads, she rolled them out, calling them out with their designated avoided food allergy – she was just so sweet! In addition, she paid attention to our beverages, refilled as necessary and actually checked on our table more than once which is not something that happens everywhere we go! Kudos Cranberry Township Houlihan’s! Our server also knew the menu and could make suggestions and describe accurately why we might want a Small VS. A Large and what meals the kids might enjoy. Houlihan’s Gets Me!
Are you counting on dessert? Don’t get stressed about calories, because this will simply quench your need for something sweet without adding it to your hips!
As you know I brought my kids with me and dining out is never that easy as I have stated over and over because of food allergies, but look at this burger that my son’s each dined on. The bun is nut free and there was no latex used in food prep, so he was off to an all American dinner! My other son loaded his burger with everything on it, and he had fries as well and the special brought it to a grand whopping total of $7.50!
Shhh- insider’s secret. Now as a special twist, because we are also on the email list for our Houlihan’s we get the emails about all of the specials. Tonight, all handhelds were $7.50 making them a bargain find on the menu. Look at this meal. My son with allergies could eat the burger with no problems. The burgers are large, moist and the cheese is melted to perfection(or so I am told).
The fact that I can drink up, eat up, and not fill out my pants makes me a Houli-groupie who craves the lighter fare that is prepared with fresh and nutritive ingredients. While the items are available for a limited time and the menu changes, it always changes with me in mind, at least I think that. Houlihan’s Gets Me and they feed, Gluten-Free, Vegetarians who love roasted, grilled and steamed foods with a want for great dining options and Lighter Fare. I am #SoEatingThis whole new menu while I am @houlihans! Now we can lavishly live life out loud while dining at Houlihan’s as it is perfect for my family and their dining menu variations.
