Chip, Chop, clunk, that is the dull edge of a knife cutting against meat that I am trying to cube.  I swear there is nothing more frustrating than having to stop and sharpen my knife before I continue on with my chopping.  A prepared cook, always keeps knives sharpened as these are the tools of the trade that make cutting, chopping and cleaving a snap!  I wonder how to let cutlery sharpen itself and if it is possible?  Spending as much time as I do in the kitchen, I find that keeping a prepared arsenal of knives for every possible cooking situation is a must.  Storage and organization of knives is as important as keeping well-stocked, because seriously, if I can’t find the knife I am searching for then having it is worthless.  The sharpening aspect of knives is somewhat tedious and while the sharpening of a knife is a must it can take time, so what would be great is a way to keep the knives sharp from the day I bought them through each use.  My latest search for How To Let Cutlery Sharpen Itself came with a surprising find: in fact, I found labeled, self-sharpening cutlery that is organized and created by a very lavish cooking brand that loves their cooks and has perfected so many wares that I am able to be a kitchen artisan.  Lavishly live this kitchen tale of How TO Let Cutlery Sharpen itself as I mince, chop, cleave, pare, peel and create.

This is my battle station, a wood chopping board, where all my work is about to begin.  My weapons of choice are from Calphalon , one of the best names in the kitchenware business! The measurement of my greatness in the kitchen all starts with a chop, a cut, a peel and then the rest is all downhill from there.  If I don’t cut things the right way, they don’t cook right and if it cooks wrong, or if pieces are cut lacking accuracy the cook time will be all off!  A sharp knife is like a sharp mind and a sharp cook, always has the tools of the trade sharpened and ready to go.  My shiny battle force consists of several knives in a self sharpening knife block as you have seen at the top of this post.

Each Knife is labeled, both on the blade and at the end of the handle, so I am not guessing what knife I am using, rather I know when it is my Chef’s Knife, Paring Knife, etc.

Look at the edge on this, 4 1/2″ paring knife, it is designed for food preparation tasks like peeling fruits and potatoes.  While I did not peel  all the potato skin off, there were a lot of marks on these potatoes and I peeled them OFF with ease with this knife. Since the day I got this set, after every hand-wash, I have placed it back into the self-sharpening wood block and every-time it comes out, the knife is being maintained as it keeps the line on the blade in alignment after each use. The swiping motion of taking the knife out of the block, reapplies a sharp edge on the knife.  With any luck, I will NEVER have to take these knifes to be resharpened, as the blades are honed after each use.

Now, I did not use this knife for the tasks it normally would have been assigned to, but I LOVE how it cut through this onion, it was a breeze.

What comes with the Calphalon Classic Self Sharpening Cutlery?  My particular set was a set of 15 pieces, including:

* the self-sharpening knife block – this is where you store everything and it offers a built-in sharpener!

*an 8 piece steak knife set(love this) – semi -serrated edges, made from stamped steel.

*Kitchen Shears that let me snip the heck out of my fresh herbs and can open bottles, as well as crack nuts, this shears rock!

*8″ Chef’s Knife- Chop, Slice, and Dice

* 7″ Santoku – This is part cleaver, part chef’s knife, you need to get your groove on with it and use it HOW you like! I chopped my Potatoes in half!

* 6″ Serrated Utility Knife – Tomatoes will slice like nobody’s business with this knife as will that rough, tough and crusty bread!

* 6″ Utility Knife – Dive into those hard apples by the slice and then add a side of sharp cheddar, as slicing is made easy with this blade.

* 4 1/2 Paring Knife- peel the skins off of all those fruits and veggies.

Things You Need To Know About This Calphalon Set

Each knife is FORGED and includes a bolster and a tang.  What is a bolster? The bolster is your lifeline of the knife between the center support and the handle, keeping those two supported and strong!  The tang of the knives is there for balance of the knife and this is generally metal and will be enclosed on the handle.  Each handle on this set is TRIPLE RIVETED, you can see the rivets on my cutting board at the top, this adds to the STRENGTH of the knife. The SHARPENER is ceramic and BUILT-IN to the block, and the blades of the knives are created of HIGH CARBON, stainless steel.  The block color on mine is MAPLE and these knives should be cared for by hand-washing them after each use.  There is a FULL LIFETIME warranty on them, making the last set of knives you will ever have to buy. The set, as used properly from the beginning will keep my knives sharpened a life time with each replacement of the knife to the self sharpening block they are sharpened. When you purchase these knives, you are making an investment on a great brand name that will last a lifetime.  Lavishly living life out loud since you now know How TO Let Cutlery Sharpen itself.

How has your progress been so far with these knives? Do you still find that they retain their edge (sharpness)?

That looks like a good set of knives. Its a good ideal to make the a self sharpening knife block, you’ll never have to sharpen your knives again because they will do it them selves..
