Starting off a luxurious morning often includes more than just a cup of my favorite, dark, bold and freshly ground coffee beans which translates into that first cup of robust coffee. Beyond that coffee cup, which offers some pretty intense wake-ups, I love a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice. I started wondering how to make fresh orange juice and one of my first attempts was during a stay in Florida, where we were residing in an orange grove. What fun right? The orange groves were calling my name and of course with a bowl in my hand and flip flops on my feet, I picked a few juicy, plump, oranges. The taste was out-of-this-world amazing, and the initial squeeze was bursting with so much aroma the room smelled like we had a grove of oranges in it. The luxury of fresh squeezed orange juice had met my family and now I would love to share with you how to make fresh Orange Juice as it is unbelievably simple.
How To Make Fresh Orange Juice
While I often am all about the cool gadgets, the things that make life so easy to live, the how to on this is way beyond easy. Trust me, there are no fancy appliances being used to make the most fresh juice you can imagine. What you will want to pay detailed attention to is the orange.
Some critics will rip me apart here, but if you have a juicy orange it will be a sweet drink without adding ANY sugar. TO me, oranges are oranges when using this process, and I am not seeking out the BEST orange in the produce section, nor am I using those tiny little Halo type oranges. Strike a balance somewhere in between and I have never met a Valencia orange I did not like!
If your orange is really firm, or GREEN, don’t use it, your juice will just taste awful. I often find bags of oranges in the produce area that are put together by the store as ‘must be sold’ these will juice out some of the best tastes you can imagine. I love using Navel and Valencia, but you may find a different kind, it is all about the taste.
Here’s the process.
1) Gather a knife & A Press for Orange Juice
2) A Cutting Board
3) A Bowl(or LARGE measuring cup)
4) Oranges
5) Composting Pile(Will be created at end if you compost)
Wash the Oranges, place on cutting board. Roll each orange to get the juice moving in there. Cut the Orange in 1/2, place it in the hand squeezer. With your press over the measuring cup(or bowl) squeeze the press together and make some juice! It is that easy. Pour into a glass and enjoy. **Please note there will be PULP, this is not pulp free unless of course you have sieved it**
Lavishly and luxuriously live fresh squeezed juice out loud. Never worry again if you have orange juice in the house, because as long as life gives you Oranges, Squeeze them and let the pulp fly, lol! Cheers~ Dana
