Laugh as you may, my thoughts of hunting immediately turn to cooking the catch as well as the food I prepare for my hunting crew to take with them. However, hunting is a lot more involved than just the food that my guys take with them, it really gets down to the necessities of warmth, waterproof and practicality. Each year before the guys go out hunting, it is like a big rendezvous of hunting fashion and fun! I can remember this tradition in my own home with my dad and my uncles coming over, and now as my husband, son and dad have joined forces the scenario replays year after year. First comes the unloading of the clothing closets that store ONLY hunting items, then of course it is the unloading of the equipment and even though the some of the same stuff has been around year after year, it still gets oogled at as though it is brand new and never seen before. A gentle reminder to the guys: remember next time you make snarky comments about ladies shopping, try to recall the fun you have unpacking the hunting gear. In reality your oogling the great gear you use year after year and those pieces you add new, is really much the same as our love of shopping and collecting different pieces of fashion. As for boots, when my dad, husband and son start discussing and comparing boots, one general comment is made: The 2 places that get cold first are their seats and their feet and if either one sets in you are done for the day if it is cold. This year, we have the feet thing covered! Let’s lavishly live hunting fashion and warmth out loud with a pair of warm boots that are thick tanned leather uppers, triple lock stitched and ready for some doe & buck action in the PA wilderness. Let’s take a look at the Grizzly side of Kenetrek.
The wind is howling, the rain is coming down and then it turns to snow, opening day is a mess and they guys are brimming from ear-to-ear with smiles because the fun is about to commence. How can anyone get excited about going outside into the wilderness and dealing with the elements? While my eyes are barely opened at 3:30 AM in the morning, they are all chirping away like it’s a normal hour and my Dad chimes in about how excited he is to test out his new boots from Kenetrek. The guys start chattering about the weather, and hopefully it will lay a dusting so they can see fresh tracks. I am like, “Oh wow, really, at this time in the morning we are discussing tracks, fashion and what else?” I just sat there feeling like I had been stun-gunned by the sleepiness that was attacking my body and while my bed was calling me I just had to listen to the conversation a bit more.
My dad started into details of the new boots, and I had to hear every last detail. The boots are great for everyday but the Kenetrek Grizzly boot answers the call of the wild from rain to snow. The boots are really made for those outdoorsmen or those who venture out bravely just for hunting, lol! Think of Grizzly Bears, they are exceptional animals that are awe-inspiring and just like their name would suggest, the Kentrek 10″ Grizzly boots are just like the Grizzly, warm, baring plenty of insulation and tough.
Let’s look at these Grizzly bad boys from top calf to toe
What’s Inside A Kenetrek Boot That Makes A Difference
The boots are made with “old world craftsmanship” and ready to see action, and help hunters everywhere bring home their Catch of The Day. What makes the Grizzly Boots from Kenetrek so special? Perhaps as my dad explained it is the snug fitting leather uppers that comes from heavy duty 6 ounce oil tanned leather? These boots fit like an all leather boot, with a comfort and durability beyond. These will wrap the foot in warmth from the outside in. Take a look at the removable 6 mm liners that offer 3 layers of material for warmth. Cambrelle is a durable wicking material, add to this 400 grams of Thinsulate Insulation and 3 mm of wool felt that create nice insulation even if they get damp. The liners are not bulky and they won’t make your foot feel like it is compressed. The material is giving, yet appropriately fitting while providing the warmth that those feet need when they snow and ice is coming down during the hunting events.
The Outsole – The Truly Grizzly Side Of Kenetrek
Talking about snow and ice, and mud, and rough terrain might just indicate the need for a tough outsole and the Kenetrek K-Talon Outsole is just that. Before your feet will ever have the need to be warmed, the first line of defense is the outsole and the Kenetrek K-Talon Outsole is ready to take on that terrain that creates cold feet. This offers a deep relief and an open tread pattern and that means that it can take on the mud, snow, rain, puddles and dry ground. See those pieces that look like ‘K’s” on the outsole? These provide multi-directional barrier against slipping. The tip of the boot outsole and the heel of the outsole provide traction teeth which DIG IN to the ground when you are going up and downhill, no sense sliding, falling and losing your gun, and stance right? Take notice of the solid side bars on the outsoles as these are there to provide support when you are sidehilling and the other part of the heel keeps you stable through all terrain.
Lacing Up And Staying Secure
The last thing anyone hunting wants to have to do is re-lace and maneuver that bulking hunting clothing to fix a boot. The Kenetrek snug-fit lacing system offers the Power D-ring which secures the ankle area of the booth providing maximum support. Plus once you are laced, you stay laced, period.
My dad feels these are the best boots that have ever graced his hunting feet, from the comfort as well as durability aspects. My dad also was delighted to find out that if the Grizzly’s bottoms wear out the boots can be completely rebuilt so he will NEVER be without what he is touting as his favorite pair of hunting boots. He is from the mindset if you have something good, you should be able to use and reuse it and if he gets something he likes, he is not going to part with it, so this boot is the right choice for him from top to bottom. The boots come in 10″ or 13” heights and the height choice is totally a personal choice. Some guys don’t like boots up as high as others and some hunting is better with taller boots.
All I can say is look out Deer, Doe, Turkey and whatever else my dad is hunting for, because he is going to be warmer than you! His feet will outlast the coldest days and he will squat waiting to find you. Who will win the battle of hunter against prey? I am fairly certain there’s a new Grizzly ready to attack his prey, as he is warm and living life lavishly out loud with warm Kenetrek Grizzly boots.
