The price of a KIA Is not the only reason that Pittsburgh Frugal Mom finds the brand outstanding, the KIA vehicles offer outstanding amenities that make the interior as great as the exterior and almost as amazing as the MPG! Meet the KIA Sorento, a seven passenger vehicle that will not blind side you with price and will get you everywhere you have to go with space for cargo as well as kids.
After driving at 3 different KIA’s I do believe this vehicle is by far the most practical for a family of 5 or more. As you know I tote kids around all the time, car-pooling, shuffling from hockey practices and we always have an extra with us so I need space. The KIA Sorento was perfect to get all around Florida from luggage shuffling, grocery shopping and nights out we made our rounds in the great Sunshine State.
The KIA Sorento we drove was a Snow White Pearl/Black 6- Speed Automatic Transmission with a V6 Engine. There were so many wonderful features on the car, and I could write forever, but I have to tell you, it would take up too many pages. The best way to experience a KIA is to test drive and play with all the features at your local dealer. I think the color was DISNEY perfect and it glistened in the rain or sun, or perhaps the Nikon S5200 that I took pictures with makes it glisten even more.
When I initially got into the KIA at the Hard Rock, I started the car with the push of a button and the magic began, lights, camera and action. The KIA line of vehicles has such an illuminating front dash it is mesmerizing. While that may not be ‘guy’ talk on a car, it is how I see it and I like things, lit and very clean looking and the KIA meets my taste guidelines.
The KIA Sorento made its rounds in Florida with the Pittsburgh Frugal Mom crew, perhaps you saw us, we were at ALDI, stocking up for our house stay, and Publix grabbing last minute snacks for our Disney backpacks, at Buca Di Beppo and Earl of Sandwich dining, Medieval Times catching a family show, ringside and at Al Capone’s loving every Italian minute of it. The KIA Sorento was parked in VIP at the Hard Rock Hotel while we visited Universal and it hung out on our driveway at our friend’s house only a few minutes from DISNEY where the car visited: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom. Our last adventure was to LEGOLAND and by far our furthest jaunt we got there warm and safe in our KIA Sorento.
When we were in Disney, it made parking a dream. If you are not familiar with Disney Parking, it is tight and you pull in right behind another car, and someone pulls right next to you, and so on. We pulled in, our car doors had room, and we never felt like we were squeezed tight into spaces. A nice feature on the vehicle for all those bright days we had while visiting the Sunshine State(not) were the sunshades on the rear windows. If this had been about 7 years ago or even 9, these would have been the best feature on the vehicle, as you simply pulled them from the window and covered it, blocking out the sun. We used to adhere a shade to the window and I lost more of them when I opened the door and was fussing with the kids in their carriers than I care to remember. Now, with this feature in the KIA, baby can travel without sunlight spanking them in the face and my kids loved it because they could read their iPods, and iPhones without glare interferring. Great feature KIA.
The steering wheel was wicked cool with the telescoping feature as well as tilting features, you can make the steering wheel pretty customized to your style of driving by moving it around, up and down. Again, this wheel was heated and since we had the unfortunate experience of cool weather (40 degrees) you can only imagine I used it every time I got in the car. The heated seats were perfect too, but the backseats had the heat as well(2nd row, not 3rd) therefore the kids battled who was sitting 2nd and 3rd row every day home from Disney, LEGOLAND, Medieval Times, Buca Di Beppo, and Al Capone’s. The cold weather was no match for the heat in our car.
As crazy as the weather was, we still opened the sunroof, sometimes just for the light, and other times we actually opened it for the air. This was a great way to enjoy the weather but not really crank down the windows and the sunroof made the car look even more sporty as a vehicle.
Here are prices you might want to know:
The MSRP including all the options and I will list all the options created a car that was $39.900. The mileage on the vehicle was to be a out 21 MPG or 18 city. We were scoring about 20 MPG if you read my previous article. We filled the car up with gas it was $60, remember the vehicle is a 2014 KIA Sorento SX LTD F that held 7 passengers and we were filled up on every ride in every seat. This was great gas mileage as well as a fair at the pumps. I am basing this comparison versus a 2013 Suburban that costs about $80 a fill, gets 13 MPG and does not have 1/2 the features this vehicle boasts.
This is the perfect family car, especially if you are 4 or more in a family. You will have space as well as great MPG. The car is a sleek car that has great pick-up-and-go, and yes we had to floor it a few times to get merged so we can speak about this first hand. There are built-in safety features and so many great amenities you might find yourself spending more time in the car and less time out.
Thanks to KIA for this VIP service and letting us enjoy a week in their great Kia Sorento. Can’t wait to see where our next adventure might be!
