Once upon a time, in a mall, not so far away from you, was a little boy named NIKO who discovered a store named RUUM. What his mother did not realize before they stepped foot in the store is that his new collection of clothing from RUUM would spur on the need to make ROOM in his closet. (RUUM is pronounced ROOM). Shopping for boys clothing is a different task than shopping for girls as there are often so many less options for boys to dress up into or dress down. What Niko found at RUUM was a store waiting to dress his every outing from sports events to and dressed up events. What Pittsburgh Frugal Mom found was a store with premium clothing and great cotton comfort fabrics that will go the long mile because of their quality, in addition to a warm and helpful staff! Let’s Shop! The holidays present the need to freshen up the clothing in the house and RUUM offers so many great choices get ready to make “RUUM” in those closets for the new updates you are about to find!
Trend-setting, multiple-layered clothing pieces that provide style and great looking outfits for kids ages newborn to 14 are what greet you from floor to wall. There is an interactive stations that allow kids the freedom to create new looks and then print them out and post on the beam supports take a peek!
The boy’s fitting rooms have portholes so they can ask for other sizes in clothing or just be silly as they carry on endlessly!
As a mom, I want to dress my son up for the holidays and finding pieces that are able to be worn in different ways was not a challenge at all in RUUM. In fact, the clothes, everyone of them in RUUM, definitely can go the long mile and they are all able to be worn individually or layered which makes it perfect for mixing and matching! Long sleeve cotton tees are very practical as they go well under sweaters, stand alone, or work well as a piece of multiple layering such as under a flannel which is under a 1/2 jacket. We found them at RUUM take a look at the blazer, the shirt, the sweater, and there were multiple choices, not just one to choose from so there was no way he could not like at least one!
The RUUM Chinos are straight leg, slimming and felt like soft cashmere against the body. My son loved them and as Nielsen explained to him they are pretty much the most popular look as the slimming leg looks ‘cool’ and Nielsen was right! We found Chinos in gray, khaki, and black and the sizes run true to size. My son has never really studied the difference between jeans nor have I, we usually just grab jeans that fit in his size, but today, as we shopped RUUM, Nielsen, store manager introduced us to the difference between premium denim and basic denim. The feel of premium denim offers a more durable jean yet the material is very comfortable. The basic jeans are wonderful as well and the price point of 2 for $40. Premium Denim Jeans are offered at $29.99, and either makes a wonderful addition to a boy’s closet!
The orange hockey shirt you see on my son became the ‘reward’ of the day as he did not want to take it off from the moment he put it on. While we went to RUUM dressed and set to shop, he came out dressed from shopping! Nielsen just clipped the tags off and completely got how comfy the shirt was, never questioned it and set him on his way! Love the staff! If you need another size they call another store, and they ship if you need the item shipped!
The Candy Bar
What if there were a store in the mall that offered your child the opportunity to enjoy a treat in return for good shopping behavior? As a mom the single feature of the candy bar is enough to bring me to store, because it let’s the kids relax, and color while I shop, which is a well-earned and often much needed break from the general, “sit here and wait while mommy looks!”
The Dressing Rooms
Your kids will love the dressing rooms, because they have port-holes! My son loved that he could ask for different sized clothing or just say, “hey” while he was dressing. The inside of the boy’s fitting room offered a skate board them, which had hooks that were skate board wheels where a boy can decide fate of the clothing he is trying on by simply placing it on one of the wheels.
From 1/2 jackets with hoods, scarves, hats, fedoras, blazers, dress sweaters, sweater vests, dress shirts, chinos, jeans, tees, long sleeve tees and shoes the choices for boys are endless. Shopping for boys in RUUM is a fun experience and I have the 10 year old that can back that claim up.
Sizes and RUUM
My son wears a solid 12, and while there is a little bit of length to the clothing that he wears it is a must for growth room. The clothes at RUUM run true to size and many of the pants offer an adjustable waist band which is very helpful for those ever-changing bellies on boys! The 12’s fit perfectly but so did the size 10’s! I did opt to go for the bit of growth, however I could have taken either size.
Make sure to check the back of the store for the clearance section because markdowns are about 40% and can find tees, shirts, sweaters, and more all that coordinate with the items you already have on hand. I found so much in the clearance area, it was like the bargain zone in an already well-priced store!
We’d like to thank Christy, Nielsen and Leshaya for all of their help while we shopped and went through the racks! It was quite the busy morning! Nielsen inducted us into the Rewards program which is FREE and it helps you earn towards future clothing purchases, so make sure to get your card! Moms need to know that there are actual bathrooms for the kids and you which are helpful if you are nursing, shopping or truly just need a break and this is not what most stores have in them!
You can see the whole shopping spree right here!
