Annapolis has history and Miss Shirley’s Cafe!
Vacations start with great breakfasts, brunches, and lunches. Sleeping in is a luxury, so brunch is the perfect option for breakfast and lunch. Finding the perfect brunch is the harder part of the equation.
If you are lucky enough to be in Annapolis, Maryland you are lucky. You are in the right place to dine on the best breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Decide what meal you want and then go!
While where I am about to reveal is not just one restaurant big, there are a few locations, they are all consistently perfect.
Culinary travel offers me the ability to taste and divulge true perfect eats, and today I can not wait to reveal the best breakfast, brunch, and lunch in Annapolis, Maryland. Lavishly live food out loud and let us travel!
As a mom of a child with severe food allergies, I have to be cautious in dining choices as we travel. Trust me, this is no easy undertaking. Once we find a destination that offers allergen-friendly foods and quality food, I tend to share.
I want those of you who have food allergies to be able to enjoy dining out and all of the wonderful food combinations. Miss Shirley’s rocks my socks and is the Premiere in Standard when it comes to food service with food allergies.
Travel and food go together. We have to fuel our bellies while on the road, but finding great-tasting food accompanied with nice portions is not always easy.
IF you want finger-licking, masterfully executed eats, then Miss Shirley’s Cafe in Annapolis, Maryland is your stop. Sensational, award-winning food is what you are about to dine on, so be prepared and come hungry.
The area around Miss Shirley’s is quaint and easily navigable. In fact, you can see a lot in one stop. We had fun just taking pictures on the way to the restaurant. Walk and enjoy the area, it’s super Instagrammable!
PARKING
You want to park, at the Park Place Garage which has entrances off of West Street and Taylor Ave. Do enjoy the beautiful buildings and hotel as you walk to Miss Shirley’s.
Once you get out of the garage this is what you will see. Your walk is not even 5 minutes from here and you get a validated ticket at Miss Shirley’s Cafe that reduces the price of parking.
The Famed Umbrellas
These umbrellas let you know you have arrived. I call them famed because they are destination markers for me. I saw the same umbrellas at Miss Shirley’s in Inner Harbor. Yes, we ate there too, like I said, same great food, different location.
Call me a creature of habit or one obsessed with the food Miss Shirley’ Cafe serves up! Eat there once and I assure you that you will crave it again and again.
There is seating outside and inside, but my suggestion is to take whatever is available. Bar seating, high tops, outdoor, indoor, it gets super busy and wait time can be a ‘thing’ so just sit and enjoy. Every seat assures you the best food around!
This sign on the building marks your final destination. You will want to provide yourself about an hour of time to indulge in what will be the feast of the century. I am asking you to try a libation, enjoy a coffee, kick back and relax.
The platters are most generous in size, appetizers surely can be split and no matter what you eat, you are going to love it. I actually trecked out of my way to get here.
We were on a different route, but just knowing Miss Shirley’s was within driving distance was like tossing a dog a bone, and I had to chase it. Just wait, you will understand why I am a Miss Shirley’s groupie. You will be too!
INSIDE MISS SHIRLEY’S CAFE
From the moment you enter through the revolving door until you leave, this will be the experience that culinary lovers discuss long after they leave. So, as you can see there are many awards on the wall, a mouthful of any food and you will understand why.
Perhaps you want a high-top or a bar seat? Go, the libations are amazing, and yes I have drunk a few! The Spicy Shirley is perfect if you love Bloody Mary’s that should be both eaten and drank. A little spice and a lot of nice. Plan to sip your morning into this beverage.
Of course, you can’t go wrong with a Miss Mimosa either, it’s all about what your day is like and how you want to kick start you Miss Shirley’s Party. I love that you can enjoy more than just coffee here, it’s all about tantalizing your taste buds and giving you a relaxing atmosphere. (coolest manager ever in our photo!)
FOOD PORN ABOUT TO HAPPEN
For all those that love food, crave it, drool over it and salivate through the screen, I totally apologize for the images that I am about to share. Totally X-rated foods that are so good, I should not even share pictures, it’s like sharing food (A total JOEY From Friends ‘No No’ right?) —
Breakfast is meant to be enjoyed, brunch is a crossover that allows them to excusable dabble lunch into breakfast. Miss Shirley’s Cafe delivers large on taste and I believe it’s a food lovers’ dream come true. Unbuckle those belts and dig in!
Fried Green Tomatoes
Oh, I love me a platter of Fried Green Tomatoes and Miss Shirley’s makes them the best. I have had them all over the place, but no one gets the texture nearly as perfect as Miss Shirley’s. Crisp, crunchy and non-interfering with the tomato taste is what I experienced.
Yes there is a remoulade sauce, and it compliments the flavors, however, I am a more, Non-sauce kind of gal and natural flavor is what I crave… #Delivered!
Let’s take a look at one of the tomatoes up close, just so you can see how perfect they are! Lemon-Herb Aioli & Chow Chow are atop the tomato and offer a smartly-paired combination of flavors.
The beautiful green tomato shines through the fried outer layer. Do not expect a heavy object of your fork, as this is not grease-laden. It is light, and a little airy. The coating is crisp and just how you would want it to be. Sinfully delicious.
BENNE SEED CHICKEN ‘N WAFFLES
Give me my Deep Southern Eats! Oh, yes, it’s here on this dish and it will satisfy your cravings as it is authentic and blissful. Ready for a dining experience you’ll never forget?
Let your fork do the wandering, well maybe your knife too and: Cut, open wide, bite, swallow, then repeat!
Bourbon Mango Coconut Stuffed French Toast
So how do you make french toast even better? You theme it and you stuff it, then you stuff your face! Ole! A combination you wished you thought of right? She’s got it!
Meet the Bourbon Mango Coconut stuffed french toast, a seasonal offering. If you are wanting this, I highly suggest getting there soon (call before you go) as it is seasonal.
Each bite provides a forkful of comfort and delivers huge on flavor. Made moments before serving with only the finest ingredients and love and attention to detail. Every mouthful will have you thanking yourself for stopping here and eating.
Heck, you might even lick your plate clean. While it might seem like there is plenty for sharing, my daughter was pretty serious about not sharing, so it was a fork smack if anyone tried.
You will have to try it to believe it. If however, this is not available, other stuffed french toasts options are and we have eaten some of those as well, so never fear, delicious is a forkful away.
Strawberry Bourbon Smash
Did someone say get smashed? lol. Just kidding. However, this is a very refreshing drink and one I highly suggest. I am not sure what it is about this drink but every time I think of its name I imagine the Kentucky Derby races and this being served as a beverage.
A few things: One is great, 2 would have kicked my butt, and 3) yes I ate the floating berries, no shame here! Good to the last drop. So order one, and try what I experienced.
JUMBO LUMP CRAB & CORN GRILLED CHEESE
I guess the next question might be, “what did you eat?” Allow me to share this crazy good meal with you. I opted for a sandwich. You all know I don’t eat meat, but I do love seafood and my kryptonite is lump crab.
What attracted me to this menu item was the unique combo of bread. In my house, I take whatever we have left and make sandwiches (realizing I have teens who eat so much I can hardly keep up with the grocery runs!). So, I am used to mixing and matching pieces of bread and so forth, but I have not seen this done in a restaurant.
What’s on this sandwich? Jumbo lump crab meat, roasted, corn, melted pimento cheese, red and yellow tomatoes, and one slice of pumpernickel and one of sourdough! Yep, perfection on a platter.
There are so many breakfast options I have not even begun to share, but you need to go and try them yourself, here is just one more to set on your ‘desirable’list!
Allergen Friendly
There are a lot of allergen-friendly options on the menu, but my son decided on waffles, straight up. They are crisp and portioned well. He likes the crunch and airiness. It is like one Belgium Waffle in many small servings, perfect breakfast!
For any of you lucky enough to be around a Miss Shirley’s Cafe, stop. You are assured to have a fabulous breakfast, lunch or brunch! ~ XO Dana (The Traveled Foodie)
