Block, Script, thread, bobbin, presser feet and easy to use, that’s what my sewing dreams are made of. It is the busiest time of the year in houses all over the world, and on top of all the things I have to prepare, from my house to food, I have to also mend some clothes. The mending pile is not getting any smaller either, in fact, the pile of clothes that sits there daily is taking up an entire person’s chair. I need that chair for company that is coming so there is no time to lose. As I think about the mending, I kind of get a bit down, it is going to take forever and I don’t want to waste my day with chores of this type. If Sewing could just be made easy….and then it comes to me, a machine so professional yet ‘sew’ easy, and it is on my doorstep! I am ready to lavishly live DIY out loud with the ease of a new sewing machine that makes light of the hems, mending and repairs as well as regular day-to-day sewing from valances to dresses!
Singer – The Overview of a 9100
I don’t need many features when it comes to a sewing machine because I am not the queen of creations. Once, long ago, in my Home Education class, I double stitched a jacket 10 times, not realizing I was sewing the arm together. As punishment, Mrs. Heck made me unstitch it, so I would remember what I was doing. The Error Warning would have done me well, as it is an audible warning alert if you have done something incorrect, …. where was this when I was with Mrs. Heck? On the other side of the realm is my mom, she can sew anything, in fact she used to make us clothing. Now, as Grandma, she hems pants and helps me keep things together when I just can’t do anymore. She will sit at a machine and really get into moving that pedal, almost like she is driving a race car, lol.
See the control panel, it is illuminated, easy to use and what you can’t figure out you can simply scan your phone to the Qwerty and get the answers, I did. The LCD Screen(control panel) will offer you a very clear view of your stitch functions: width, length and tension settings that are recommended for the presser foot. There is also a DVD that comes with the machine and I totally recommend watching it as it will explain your machine inside and out. With that said, I set to work, to repair clothing I had just bought, that’s right, brand new clothing that needed some mending, let me explain.
Shopping at Gabe’s for Name Brand Fashion With Repair Possibilities.
Many of you are familiar with Gabe’s, they are the retailer that does buyouts and offers brand name clothing at up to 70% off. Sometimes you will find clothes for $1 or $3 and it is not returnable when it ends in a zero, so you want to make sure you are prepared to properly repair the item so you get your money out of your purchase. Others of you shop at traditional retail stores and get clothing home to find it is damaged, and when you go to return it and get another, there are no more, so faced with the choice of a return or keeping an item you might fix, well, if you have a Singer 9100 in your house, my bet is there will be no return!
If you have ever shopped at this store you might earn a new appreciation for a sewing machine and I believe this is the one you would adore. Sometimes the clothing in this store, comes without a button hole, well guess what? The Singer Professional 9100 offers 9 Fully Automatic 1-Step Buttonholes letting you get professional looking results each time you add in a button hole at the TOUCH of a button. The Start & Stop Button will have you loving life, as you can unplug the foot controller(yes really) and simply press that START button and the machine is off and sewing(YEP, Happy Stitch Dance here!). Don’t worry about being out of control, you are still controlling the speed limit, lol!
The pants that you buy in this store might cost you as little as a Dollar and the time it will take to make them fully functional by adding a buttonhole, moments! Truly priceless. I have bought clothing with $90 price tags on it from Gabe’s and paid only a few dollars, because there were rips on it, along the side seams, or along the seams on jeans, and with a sewing machine that is so easy to use you end up with brand name clothing, for pennies on the dollar! Other times, you might find a shirt that is not stitched on the seam, or a hole in the sleeve and rather than use the traditional thread and needle, you can use one of the 13 Essential Stitches to mend and repair. Again, effortless and very little time invested and the end result will be clothing that you bought for a few dollars, repaired and rather fashion defying!
Now, I had used a different brand of sewing machine for a long time, but it just never had the advantages this machine boasts. If I wanted reverse, I had to manually set it and make it go backwards, by stitching in a different direction, whereas this machine offers a reverse sew button, making it that easy. I also had to put the needle up and down on my own with my old machine, whereas there is a Needleup/down button which is so very helpful, rather than moving my hands all over, I just move my hands to the right and I am done. It’s often the little things that make a difference and these little things are land-moving for me.
Another beautifully easy function is changing the needle position and the stitch length. Sometimes hems need to look different so changing that stitch length is so easy, because to shorten you just thread the “—” of stitch length to the length adjustment button. With Halloween Costumes I don’t care how the stitch is, it can be longer, whereas with my pants, I want a shorter span of stitch to make it less noticeable. Here’s a tip from the book: the longer the stitch, the thicker the fabric, thread and needle should be. Again, my work pants(dress trousers) are thin material, and need shorter stitches.
You can see I had the Free Arm exposed here because we were going to work on a hem and because you can have this option, it is SEW convenient, LOL!
My latest endeavor of repairing pants that have the seams worn through or, where zippers have left holes, has me running for thread, but this time I am not threading needles rather I am going to thread my Singer Professional 9100. Honestly, there is not much to threading this machine as it offers an Automatic Needled Threader, saving me time!
I don’t have to guess what stitch and width I need because the machine does this automatically and the extension table lets me manage those more cumbersome stitching projects, like sheers and tablecloth repairs. This particular machine boasts 13 Essential Stitches, you know those that are the core stitches of construction and mending, additionally you will find 3 Sewing stitches that are designed to move with your fabric, 184 Decorative Stitches that let you create detailed stitching and 9 fully automatic 1-step buttonholes.
Singer 9100 got this just right as it is easy to use, and perfect for those just starting into sewing or for the more advanced that want to use particular stitches. I can’t say enough good about how easy the control panel is to use and I love all my special buttons like Reverse and Needle Position that I never had before. Lavishly living sewing out loud is what you will find when you rev up your sewing pedal and floor it, with the Singer 9100.
