Now that the seasons are getting a bit cooler I am starting to focus a lot less on the outside work, gardening and lawn and more on the inside details. The season change is ushering in a brand new holiday season and that usually means that more and more people will be passing through our house and spending time, and of course I smell a project about to happen!
As I sauntered into my one bathroom, I made the decision that things needed to change, but short on time, and not wanting to delve into some huge DIY project as we just painted the bathroom, I decided to challenge myself and makeover the bathroom for under $100.
Is it really possible to makeover a bathroom for under $100 and make it more functional than it is? A quick freshen is easy and you don’t have to do too much to make great big changes. Color will change everything as will a little bit of sensible storage that we were lacking.
Here’s my story of lavishly living a chic bathroom makeover and Tips For Updating Your Bathroom Under $100 using some great items that I found at IKEA Pittsburgh and you can find the same at any IKEA Nationwide!
Grab A Family Membership & $avor the $avings
I find that Adventure. Eat. DIY. Repeat. could be rather expensive if I did not have a few tricks up my sleeve and while I love the look of luxury, sometimes the price tag is just unforgiving. Did you know that IKEA offers an IKEA Family Membership that is totally FREE and with the membership comes perks such as discounts on already low prices.
IKEA makes it possible to redecorate, update and freshen any room with all of the different offers. My favorite offer might be the FREE coffee that I grab EVERY time I am there, but let’s stay focused on my 4 ways to update your bathroom under $100.
Take Stock Of What Is Missing In The Room
Would you just go to a store and start buying random clothes when the season changes? Or, would you go to your closet, and see what you already have, take a look at what is trending and then head out to the store to pick up what pieces you don’t have? Most of us would take stock of what we have already and just add on to it.
Wouldn’t you already use what you have to play up anything you might buy, taking stock of what a room is missing is key to updating the room. Running out to buy anything and everything that retailers offer in the bathroom section will just lead to an over-stocked, junked up, cluttered mess.
Just because there are ‘things’ to hold ‘things’ does not merit the buy. I know my kids need more storage space in the bathroom, so number one on my list is getting everything off the bathroom counter and into storage. They already have vanity space, but they lack any type of wall storage. Did you know that storage is the number one problem in most bathroom spaces?
Easy Storage Solution
IKEA Pittsburgh had TRONES storage cubbies which are lightweight, hang easily and can be arranged ONE On top of the other from floor to ceiling(Vertically) or straight across a wall area, side-to-side(horizontally).
The cubbies open up, and offer great storage areas where you can store extra towels(which who ever has enough space to store these) and any toiletries, to keep the bathroom cleaned up and organized~~~Yes that is possible to do! The TRONES come in packs of three and are only $29.99, if you are an IKEA Family Member(that membership is free).
The TRONES are are lightweight and really easy to hang. The dimensions are 20 1/8 “x 7 1/8 “x 15 3/8 “. The TRONES are not wood, they are not heavy, rather they are constructed of Polypropylene which is durable and wipe-able(yeah, thinking bathroom and germs.
Why are you going to love TRONES? First for the flexibility in hanging options, both vertically and horizontally. Second, if you need more space, don’t just use the inside, hang them horizontally(if space allows) and use the little recessed area on the tops of the TRONES to place bottles of Perfume, Cologne, Hairbrushes, etc, really creating more space on the vanity.
Third, as you know life happens and things spill, but fear not because the door on the TRONES just comes off with ease and you can clean up that little unfortunate mishap and move on without missing a beat!
POPS Of Color Changes Everything Quickly
What could you change in the room that would make a lot of sense, and how could you add color? Color is the easiest thing to change in a room without even painting the walls! I love POPS of non-committal color because non-committal color arrives to the room without much labor, whereas committed color is on the walls!
I guess the big question now is how do you add color to a bathroom without painting it you might ask? That’s easy and IKEA has the solution and if you are an IKEA Family Member you will get an even lower price.
All I am going to say is FRAJEN towels are Bath Towels and if you have ever come out of the shower or tub with a towel that is too small, you probably have decided to NEVER repeat that process. I want to be covered and I want to be dry, and FRAJEN Towels rock the dry zone.
The generous size of the FRAJEN Towels I picked up are 55 “x 28 ” and here is how the POP of color process begins in a bathroom, just add some towels. The towels will probably hang on a towel rack and when you add a few of them, suddenly, COLOR is in the room and you never touched a paint can!
My color picks were Black and Red which complimented the TRONES in Black, creating a color splash.
Don’t forget the floors. TOFTBO bath mats are a perfect way to accent and create even more color but really are a creative way to accomplish those POPS of color we all want without really committing to the color on the wall!
These are my great Tips For Updating Your Bathroom Under $100 as I lavishly live life out loud and they are perfect for anyone who does not want to commit to total renovation! We however.. has gone big and are totally redoing all of our bathrooms.
