Travel is a lot of fun and adventure is around every corner. Our most recent trek to the Virginia Beach area was a first my children and a place that I had been to many times before. What I love about Virginia Beach is the walk-ability of the area, and the location of well-placed lodging.
There are Virginia Beach travel tips that will get you the most out of your time while you are there and if you are with your family or just looking to have fun I have a few tips for you to help you out!
From seeing taffy made from a window, to zip lining in the treetops there is something for every member of your family and you are sure to have fun in the sun as the weather is a blessing. Get ready to lavishly live travel out loud, strolling the boardwalk and touring the streets shopping.
Virginia Beach Travel Tips
Don’t Leave The Beach
We learned something that was different than other beach locales we have been to: Don’t get off the beach right at dinner time, most don’t! Virginia Beach rocks the party on the Virginia Beach until the sun sets and after the sun sets people are still trolling the beach for fun with swimming, and shell hunting with flashlights!
Make King Neptune Your Dude
We decided that no matter what, our meeting spot was King Neptune, if we got separated (oh yes we did), we would just rejoin there. The King Neptune Statue is humongous and quite famous so this is the perfect central point to meet up at when we were at different pools or parts of the boardwalk.
Shopping Is A Must
There are so many shops up and down the main street of Atlantic Avenue. You will find taffy being made in window fronts, delicious pizza shops, loads of restaurants waiting to feed your wave jumping, totally hungry bodies!
Also, don’t forget to do what I call Hotel hopping. I love walking up and down the boardwalk and going into each hotel. While my kids used to hate this they now love it as it gives us perspective on what our hotel has or is lacking on. Additionally, it provides us the chance to find different locations to lodge at with each return trip, and options are always nice!
One of our favorite stops were all the surf shops with tees, hats etc. I believe you would be hard-pressed not to come home with a souvenir. We did like shopping early in the morning rather than later at night as the stores were packed with people.
Donuts On The Beach
A unique find is Dough Joe’s a place that will deliver donuts to you on the beach! A whole lot of yum and you can grab allergen free donuts there!
History and Food
Dine at at Tautog’s it just has to be the MUST do of your trip, or you have not experienced Virginia Beach. Dress is beach casual, but some dress a tad more upscale and the menu suits that atmosphere.
This will be one of the best dining experiences at the beach, IF you can get in. If you have to wait, do it, because it is so darn delicious. Formerly a cottage owned by Agnes Winston, the restaurant is located on 23rd Street and convenient to everything. The seafood is outstanding and the service is impeccable.
Adventure in Ziplining
For my kids, adventure is quite often physical, and Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach, cave-walking, wave-hopping, quad-riding, adrenaline-like stuff seems to be the theme. Now, I have to tell you Virginia Beach is hardly my dream adventure, but the kids, hung from trees, (Virginia Beach) for over 3 hours at the Virginia Beach at the Virginia Aquarium.
There is a lot more to do, and this is just a light go-over of a few of the things we did, as there is so much to do that even after a week, you would have more fun. Endless activity, fun on the beach, lounging poolside, it’s all in Virginia Beach if you choose to lavishly live vacation as a family out loud!
