I love going home, and my recent trip to Chicago was perfect in every way. While the next day would be spent totally enveloped in work, my day today was to uncover, remember, taste and visit Chicago!
Chicago is truly known for it’s Deep Dish Pizza but it also has a lot of other great foods. For all of you who are lucky enough to visit Chicago or head into downtown, let me share where to find a savory selection of donuts laced with what I shall term addictive flavors!
Lavishly live food and travel out loud and learn where to find amazing donuts in Chicago where you won’t find any better, anywhere and you won’t go away hungry!
Right in the heart of downtown Chicago is where you will find the best shopping and some of the best restaurant and eateries. I should know, growing up a Chicago girl and heading back over and over, I can’t get enough of the area. From most major hotels you are about 15 minutes walking distance (which is nothing more than an excuse to eat an extra donut).
I visited Ed O’Brien at Stan’s Donuts at 259 E Erie St, Chicago, IL 60611. I’d like to thank Ed for taking the time out of his busy day to chatter with me so that I could write this article and thanks for the delicious donuts you gave me to taste! The store was super busy ( a really steady pace) but Ed wiggled me into his day- true Chicago Hospitality!
Ed and I chatted for a while, discussed donuts, Chicago, and donuts! The donuts are not heavy, in fact, they are on the lighter side, airier than most and each one transforms basic into extraordinary!
Where To Find Amazing Donuts In Chicago
THE BACKGROUND- When 2 Masters Combine
Let’s keep things simple with the background, but there is a lot of history here. A man named Stan Berman (hence Stan’s Donuts) who was based in California and an absolute donut guru, matched wits and wares with Rich Labriola (the local bakery kingpin Chicago).
Together they have created a donut lover’s dream come true, where ingredients of the highest quality, combined with restraint and balance deliver big on flavor and light on belly delivery! Meet Stan’s Donuts!
Don’t go there looking for a chain style donut, because that is not what they are. Don’t seek out those heavy and grease-laden bad boys that your belch for the remainder of the day and reminding yourself to start eating better each day. Take a peek!
Conversely, head to Stan’s Donuts if you are a donut connoisseur in search of tastes that tempt the tastebud but don’t weight down the fried end of things. While it may slightly resemblant of a modern-day coffee shop, don’t be fooled.
Their ingredients in every donut and each cup of coffee offer fresh flavors that are accented by actual artisans pouring the coffee and actually employees baking the goods! I loved this retro wall and of course, I also wished they all still had the plugs connected, I am a total KitchenAid addict.
The Erie Street location I was at, does about 2000 donuts a day, hello sweet donuts!
That means that this case is filled over and over all day long so all of you can fill your bellies with sweet, delectable treats!
The Cherry Old Fashioned is all about getting the right crunch and of course, the artisan preparation will leave you wanting more! That’s ok, drool here!
These look as great as they taste as Stan’s Donut has mastered the art of light and yummy donuts. So you are craving just a bit more food porn? Here’s one more for the road!
Calling all foodies visiting Chicago or living in Chicago, make sure to stop in and smuggle out that bag of gourmet donuts that everyone will be begging you for and you can proudly deliver to your office seat!
Don’t forget the coffee, I enjoyed a Nitro Brewed coffee, no ice, plenty of bold taste and so perfectly cool! (see top photo with bag and donut!) Lavishly live travel and food out loud and know that each donut is lovingly made for each of you lucky Chicagoans! Now each of you knows Where To Find Amazing Donuts In Chicago ~ Dana XO
Thank you again to Ed for hosting me and Stan’s Donuts. Can’t wait to see you again soon!
