A quick look into my family life, is as simple as glancing through photos and I can almost caption each moment that has been captured with a family motto or saying. There are so many reason why family mottos inspire our kids, grand-kids, relatives and friends to get what defines our family.
Why family mottos are so empowering is because they are helpful in providing the backbone of what we stand for as a family. For others, it is a point of reference as each motto is as unique as the family that bares it, and while it clearly defines what a person in a particular family believes it in no way impedes your being.
Our dark unknown paths to the future are lit by words that create the person and family that we are and in fact our mottos guide us through life.
Mottos are witty banter, quirky statements, and provocative thoughts and stances we have on situations and they are easily spread to others if they are easy to remember and something that can be re-canted with ease. In other words, short statements that share your views on life and often are relevant to others are why family mottos inspire. Lavishly live life out loud learning why family mottos inspire.
Life As A Daily Task
A few fun mottos that we share and abide by in our home, are just simple views on realistic daily issues, that seem to answer many occasions in life. Think of a time when you can not be with your child, in a situation where they need a little strength, a crutch to lean on to get them through and then suddenly you know why family mottos inspire.
This is that moment when a phrase you have said over and over kicks and and suddenly you get a child making a decision based on what they know and believe in, but never knew how to use…. it’s that moment you know you have a family motto that inspires!
Other times, life is about money. Money is often one of those subjects that we needed guided through but if you have a feisty and celebratory family motto it will guide a financial chioce down the path that should be followed, that is right for YOUR family. Here is our motto, as it is something we have learned to do every time we spend!
Of course we also have a reminding statement in our home, to bring the kids and ourselves to the most sensible decision, and this motto to me inspires the direction of something like firing off before you should or just because you can, doesn’t mean you should! The power of life is always in our hands, so life is a gift that needs to be carefully coveted and of course this motto delivers for us.
Our minds often function best when we live in our own little hole and pretend the rest of the world does not exist, but then when you start thinking about life, there are so many more of US in the world. This leads me to believe that other families also must offer up mottos to live by, after all Pinterest has loads of posts showing family mottos and then I realized a show that I faithfully watch, and have come to love is simply LOADED with mottos that their family lives by.
Bringing Up Bates is a family docu-series that follows the lives of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, proud parents to 19 children and a growing number of grandchildren. The series is heartfelt, will often tug at your heartstrings, bring tears to your eyes, laughs to your belly and a good smack of reality when you see other families think, do and are as you are!
Bringing Up Bates is refreshing, appropriate for all ages, and shares everything from new loves, to new careers, weddings and babies. Wholesome programming in a world that is often lacking strong family options!
Gil certainly has dropped a few great one-liner mottos whether he realizes this or not I don’t know, but this particular motto shows you even more clearly why family mottos inspire.
“Popsicles and Band-Aids are the universal fix for any problem.”
The world always looks cooler after a Popsicle and of course what would life wounds be without a way to heal? A dad, speaking from the heart, showing love, affection and strength as a family leader who KNOWS how to fix those big wing-dinger problems that life tosses at him!
“I don’t know what’s in the future, but I know Who holds the future…and I’, looking forward to what He’s going to deliver.” Again, Gil being led by faith and inspiring his family to not question the journey because the path is already secure. This really focuses on why family mottos inspire as they are there to lead even when you are not sure.
Of course there are the more quirky ones from Gil, like when he is revving up to lose weight for the upcoming wedding of Michaella and he says, “do the most, lose the most!” as life has different paths.
