5 people, 5 breakfasts and a need for many choices, without leaving the premises in our hotel becomes the challenge no matter where we are. Getting all of us up, together and breakfast bound is always the hardest challenge for any family, stack on this need the need for a food that is allergen free(nut free and not touched by Latex) you open up a whole new level of need. We avoid taking off to multiple dining places in the area, because it is just too hard, but when you wake up and can dine right in the hotel you are staying at, well that is just lavishly living travel out loud. Here’s what we found at the FAIRFIELD INN & SUITES Marriott. I am not whining about breakfast, rather I am offering my very open opinion as I am used to things a certain way with all the traveling and dining we attend. I was caught a bit off guard at this particular establishment. For this trip, we tried out a different Marriott establishment, but I could not help myself in comparing it to The Residence Inn. On our upcoming trip we will be back with the Residence Inn and we can’t wait! We are used to the food variety at The Residence Inn and the great care of a mini breakfast buffet that occurs there, so here’s a summary of dining on breakfast at the Fairfield, as we lavishly lived travel out loud.
Welcome To Breakfast
A large area is waiting to be filled with the occupants of the FAIRFIELD INN & SUITES , how many will show up today is always the question right? In the room you will find a coffee station where you can prepare coffee, tea or hot chocolate. If you want to make it elaborate across the eating area you will see honey, and a refrigerator with milk, so you can always add it in.
What was missing anywhere in the dining room to make the coffee complete? Whipped Cream, so there were no fancy coffee drinks today just basic coffee. The coffee absolutely had the smell and taste of fresh ground beans. I also missed the syrup the chocolate syrup that the Residence Inn offers because I would make my own specially crafted coffee there, but that was not an option here, nor was there a machine that offered iced to cool down the beverages, they were just served chilled, no ice- again thumbs down.
Repetition of Food
If you have a crowd that wants some meat, well today’s choice was turkey sausage which my husband made into a sandwich with eggs as well. You would also find this to be the choice meat served for the next 3 days as well, there was no variation.
Meatless? How about a bagel, waffle, cereal, bananas, apples, toast or muffins. In addition there was a fridge as mentioned before loaded with yogurt, skim and 1% milk. This was a nice addition to the room and the perfect way to tote milk. My husband and son said the eggs were dry, or overcooked, not sure which.
The high standard of fruits that is met and exceeded at The Residence Inn was definitely not followed here. I am sorry to say this but that fruit was so gross. I took an apple that was mushier and more bruised than applesauce. The bananas were all so spotted they looked more like a dalmatian turned yellow than a banana. The last day we were there the breakfast fruit was a mix of I want to say cantaloupe and grapefruit, not only was the presentation a mess, but in all honesty the fruit combo looked awful as well. Those that had tried it, left a dent(food missing) in it and the lady that should have replenished(it was early when we ate) had not replenished making it look even less appealing.
Why is this point so important? I like my fruit and I like to eat it at breakfast and take a piece with me to munch on later, and I have to say I opted out of this here. Again, thumbs down.
The area is large, and offers multiple sized tables. If you are in a group, shove them together , if you need to eat alone you can find privacy as well. The area is well set to serve. You will find a toaster and the ability to make your own waffles(however, this is one option I am not so fond of because you end up smelling like the batter due to lack of ventilation in the area, so be warned ahead! The Waffle area itself needed to be a bit more maintained as there was no local garbage can for the cups that you spilled the waffle batter into and the waffle iron itself had overflow on it from all the people using it. Again there was no whipped cream, so Boo! I also felt like the area could have been a bit better maintained. It would be wiped down by someone who had a glove on one hand and was actually filling a plate with her other hand and then she disappeared a while. The only time she was out was not to fill things, but rather to kind of graze which made me understand why the area was not looking that ‘great’ it was just basic. Please don’t misunderstand, the area was not dirty, but it was not kept after as other places we have stayed have someone making sure any spilled cereal is handled, that juice is not overflowing from being poured over in the machine, and the waffle machines are usually kept on.
The cereals were basic, nothing that KIDS really get excited about so I might suggest that they introduce at least one cereal or maybe boxed cereals for kids to choose from because this was just not lighting the milk on fire for my kids, and I bet that would hold true to other families.
Here’s the thing, with a family, beggars can’t be choosers, it is just that we have been spoiled with the great selection with the Residence Inn, so this was just NOT The same. There was plenty to choose from, it however, did not change on a daily basis and it could have been a bit ‘cleaner’, after all it was a food area. Even the coffee receptacles needed wiped a bit(think backsplash).
Overall it was what it was, a breakfast included in the price of the lodging, and quite convenient, right in the hotel itself. I guess you can’t really complain about that aspect but I can say that when you get your food provided at the Residence Inn, Country Inn Suites, Holiday Inn there is a bit more zing to it. I was disappointed knowing this is part of the Marriott brand, but now I can see the differences in the establishments. Lavishly live breakfast out loud as you venture out on all of your travels, just as we did!
