I love getaways, whether I am headed somewhere to shop for the day, or just going to check out the area. One of my girl friend’s lives in the Newark, Delaware area. Now, you might say what is there to do in the Newark area, and I can tell you this, “Plenty!”
We get together once a year and usually, she has a surprise for me, an item on her ‘bucket list’ to-do in the area.
What Samantha decided is rather than letting auto shopping rule the weekend, we would rule the weekend with local fun, relaxing and rejuvenating and gal pal adventuring in Newark Delaware. Here’s our bucket list of 5 Destinations for Relaxing and Rejuvenating on a Girlfriend Getaway in Newark, Delaware
5 Destinations for Relaxing and Rejuvenating on a Girlfriend Getaway in Newark, Delaware
Our bucket list starts out about 2 1/2 hours away from the University of Delaware. Samantha lives super close to the university so we wanted to get out of the ‘hub’ and try something different.
Indeed the first stop to the last all make for a perfect gal pal adventuring weekend in Newark, Delaware and truly uncover the hidden gems in the area.
1. All Aboard
I believe that this will be the pinnacle of the trip for us and anyone that loves trains. You know that I love trains, especially after my Royal Gorge Route Railroad ride.
The Wilmington and Western Railroad is actually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Any guesses what we are going to do first? Our ride will provide a glimpse back into that ‘Golden Era’ when trains were the main transportation source.
Additionally, we will get to pass through Ashland as she has purchased tickets to the Santa Express! Woot Woot!
2. No Nonsense, No Sales Tax, Girls Shopping Trip!
Of course, we love to shop and where better to shop in Newark than at the Christiana Mall. Do expect high-end stores, that’s why we go. We love Macy’s, The Disney Store, William Sonoma, and Apple, so those were just some of our stops.
Parking is not an issue at the mall, and it’s really nice to be inside and walking, especially if it’s nasty outside!
However, our trip is not just the mall, we, love the Costco that is adjacent and then our favorite stop, ‘Tar-Jay’ (Target), we just make it sound prettier, lol!
Further, we stop at the little outlet discount mall and sometimes an additional stop at another few stores less than a mile from this mall. The no sales tax is our favorite, but the stores are great too!
3. Bed & Breakfast
We are planning to stay at the Blue Hen Bed & Breakfast about 45 minutes from Sam’s house! You can find this B&B on ROute 273 a few miles west of downtown Newark.
You may hear others refer to it as ‘The Wedge’ so it is one in the same (nice thing to know!).
Sam chose this because we have to bring her doggie along (Mayfair), she hates to stay home alone and Sam does not have anyone to take care of her. This B&B is pet friendly!
Simple fun together, that’s what makes friendship grand!
4. Pub, Grub and Locals
Our stay will include a nighttime stop at the local ‘pub and grub’ with all the locals. Like I always say, ‘if the locals go, so do I!’
We are going to Two Stones Pub, for great food and beverages. From bread pudding to BLT’s and new options for Vegan’s there’s something for everyone and it is truly a hidden Newark, Delaware gem!
5. Relax & Rejuvenate
Once Sam purchases her vehicle or in between purchasing, whichever happens first, we are scheduling hot stone treatments at the Limestone Therapeutic Massage Center.
The best way to enjoy a true girlfriend adventure is to relax. We know where to go because Sam lives there and has heard nothing but great about them, so our choice is Limestone!
Now you know what we will be doing on our girlfriend getaway. There’s so much more in the area, these are just a few highlights. How will you enjoy your girlfriend getaway in the Newark, Delaware area? ~ DANA XO
