Best Crab Cakes In Dewey Beach

July 1, 2019 By Dana Vento 15 Comments

I may receive a commission if you purchase something mentioned in this post. See more details here.

When you are in Southern Delaware, it’s all about the food. As a culinary travel writer, I wanted to hit the hot spots, savor the cuisine and move on to the next good eat. After all, that’s what I do, and love. Then, and only then am I able to share my terrific culinary finds with you, so you can experience it too!

The bar and grill that I heard so many people chattering about on the beach and at the outlets were about to become familiar to me as well. People traveling to Southern Delaware make it a mandatory stop to get to this bar and grill for its excellent crab cakes (they are in fact award-winning).

However, it’s not just the best crab cakes in Dewey Beach, this bar and grill offer delicious nacho platters, burgers, and libations (yes!).  Who’s ready to learn where to go in to experience the best crab cakes in Dewey Beach?

Best Crab Cakes In Dewey Beach

Woody’s Dewey Beach While my meal was hosted, please note, all images and content are my own.

Alright, if you do not go here, you are missing a culinary travel destination. Trust me, don’t miss out on this incredible bar and grill or you will be doing the ‘woulda coulda shoulda dance’ until you get back to the area and get there!

The adventure starts at Woodys’ Bar and Grill in Dewey Beach.  I only include the best of the best on my site and these crab cakes are bound to please the most demanding of taste buds!

Here was my one and ONLY struggle at this location, the parking, but I had already figured that it would be, so I came at it with that mindset. There are only a few parking spots across the front and a few on the side, so you have to figure out how you are gonna park and where.

Beyond this, there are chairs for waiting (which you will do during peak dinner hours because it is so good everyone wants to eat here), and there are televisions everywhere inside and out.

Inside Dining

Yes, there is patio seating, and indoor seating, and a full bar. You can dine at the bar or you can dine on the patio, get food to go (which seemed to be a big thing too!), or eat inside at a table (hightops and tables).

The inside bar has seating and there are tables inside as well. The tables range from high top to regular seating and every table gets filled. Consider this, the restaurant is award winning and the locals eat here. But, those that vacation here makes it even busier!

I have no shame in telling you I love my summer libations. In fact, I totally love trying new drinks and here I decided to go with a Grapefruit Crush. A Cool and citrus-driven beverage, iced down enough to rid the heat of the day, yet not too much as to ruin the alcohol.

Deep Eddy’s Ruby Red Vodka mixed up with Triple Sec, Sprite and fresh Grapefruit ‘crushed’.  Sip by sip I just loved this drink. Bottoms up! Cool and refreshing and not too -alcohol tasting which is key to a good cocktail! The grapefruit is sweet and sour and cool and fresh!

When The Inside Of Your Stomach Is Eating The Outside…

What is it about hanging out in the beach by day and doing nothing but laying out that increases your appetite? I get voracious when I am at the beach. Maybe it is just my body relaxing and enjoying life for a change. Suddenly hunger kicks into overdrive. Does this happen to you too? I mean I feel like my stomach is gnawing at itself I am so darn hungry.

Then, I feel like I just have to have a cool refreshing cocktail. No matter what dinner I have while I am on vacation I enjoy a new one each night, and tonight would be no different!

Call it a day and order an appetizer. We did, the Nacho platter! Plenty to share in a party of 4, and all the chips were loaded with cheese! What can I say about a nacho platter other than order it to stop your rumbling belly!

This platter was delicious and ordered and came right on out. The place was busy but everyone was being served and truly this was delish! The multi-colored chips played a part into the eye-catching food presentation and the cheese was just right!

I try to avoid carbs as much as possible and I did not want bread getting between me and my beloved crab cake.  What do you do when you don’t want a crab cake sandwich? Get it on a bed of lettuce.  Since I have been avidly avoiding nuts as they seem to be a trigger for me, I got the Raspberry Walnut Salad without the walnuts!

The crab cake is waiting to be devoured abed a Spring mix salad tossed with onions, mandarin oranges, raspberries, and raspberry vinaigrette. Every bite was a delicacy with swirls of fresh seafood and fruit.

Nothing I have ever eaten in all of my travels has even come close to the taste of this crab cake. There are NO fillers, it is pure lump crab and divine! I can not wait to travel back to the area next summer. Woody’s Dewey Beach will be one of my first stops because I can not stop thinking about this crab cake!

Burger, Burger, Chicken Sandwich

Truly the kids loved their meals, ranging from 2 different burgers to a buffalo chicken sandwich. I do not want to take away from those meals, but seriously if you are here, you just gotta indulge in the crab cake.

The burgers are huge and filling and juicy and cooked to perfection 2/2 for our table. Where Niko Travels enjoyed an allergen-friendly burger, no cross contamination and Made To Order. Additionally, he ordered mac and cheese which he loved. A note, if you have allergies to seafood you will not be able to eat any of the fried items on the menu because the fryer is not a dedicated fryer. There are workarounds just as Where Niko Travels ordered mac and cheese you could easily order a salad.

KallieXO enjoyed a burger and the homemade Woody’s chips, which were crunchy and not greasy! Check out the mass of onions on that burger and the thickness of it. A very generous burger, well-prepared and nicely served.

Where MJ Travels told me, “Mom the buffalo chicken sandwich was crisp, moist and not too hot, just enough tang to remind you that it was spiced up a bit!”

I know how that feels. Spending some time on the beach then it just happens, I’m hungry all of a sudden! I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy crab cakes from here as much as the next fan but I’m also looking forward to their other selections if ever I drop by. 🙂

Ha. See you get it. I swear (even though I know it is not possible) the heat of the sun burns the calories out of me, which is why I get so famished. LOL
