Killarney. It’s time to go out for dinner.
We strolled out of the lobby of the International Hotel and hung a right.
The horse and carriages are long gone for the day.
It’s 7 PM and we are starved. We’ve adventured all day.
Streets are alive, with people walking everywhere.
There are alleys, sidestreets, lights, and so many bars.
Seafood is so fresh in Ireland, after all, we are surrounded by water!
It would be a sin not to enjoy a seafood dinner in Killarney.
We are headed to eat a delicious seafood bar in Killarney as others have shared some insight.
Hoping it won’t yet be too busy, we stroll about 4 minutes to High Street, then stop.
Smelling the food from the outside is just the beginning.
Sauntering inside, do we seat ourselves or wait to be seated?
The answer arrives, ‘please seat yourselves!’
It’s time to enjoy the freshest in seafood ‘From our boats to your plates.’ their slogan, not mine!
Ready to feast at reasonable prices for scrumptious and fresh seafood?
Great food awaits if you know where to enjoy seafood dinner in Killarney!
Delicious Seafood Bar In Killarney
Quinlan’s Seafood Bar in Killarney
Our destination is Quinlan’s. It’s got rave reviews for its really fresh seafood!
I can hardly wait. It’s a date night away from our tour group.
What will this be like? Let’s go!
You might think we would be looking for an ambiance-driven restaurant.
The culinary girl in me follows her instinct and gut.
I’ve researched where to eat, long before we got here.
We are seeking out the best and freshest in seafood and everything else will just fall into place!
Then, I asked a lot of people a lot of questions. We’ve honed in on what we know as the best.
It’s casual in here, jeans will do. Mmm what do I smell?
The Setup in the Seafood Bar in Killarney
There’s a long row of booth seating, a series of tables and then chair opposite the booth.
The Kitchen is right in the center of everything, open and in plain view.
I love it! It’s cozy, quaint, open, simple, close, and well-appointed.
Translation, the best meals come from setups like this in my tenured experience!
The Menu Options at the Seafood Bar in Killarney
Salivating over menu options: prawns, Hake, halibut, shrimp, salmon, crab and so on.
Maybe something is wrong with me, but we’ve been away from french fries (Chips) for a week!
What sounds the best to me are the freshly peeled and fried CHIPS and I intend to eat them!
Did I mention that every day there is a Catch of the Day offering?
How is that possible? You see, why I really love Quinlan’s seafood story is because of its simplicity in concept.
They fish. Sell. Restaurant. Serve. Eat-In. Take Out. Buy fresh and prepare yourself (retail side).
Their Fishmongers know the seafood inside and out and bring the freshest to those living locally since the 1960s.
Further, Quinlan’s provides the freshest in seafood and fabulous Smoked Salmon, and they are worldwide!
I wish we had this in Pittsburgh! Their concept
Endlessly winning the ‘Great Taste Awards’ and Irish Food Awards, you just can’t find any better than Quinlan’s!
Our Meals at the Seafood Bar in Killarney (Quinlan’s)~
Valentia Harbour Chowder
Michael had experienced a soup already, in Clonroche and he loved it.
Wondering if this would top that one out, he was about to be blown away!
His bowl of Valentia Harbour Chowder was naturally flavorful and filled with chunky fresh fish and veggies.
Normally, that’s not his kind of meal, but this was uncommon and yummy for lack of better descriptors.
The hi-fiber brown bread might have been the down-home touch that sealed the steaming bowl of seafood soup!
A Fish Meal
Special of the day. Michael dines on the special of the day.
Following up his bowl of perfectly portioned soup was a great seafood meal.
It was best for Food Photography. Colorful, and vibrant.
Did Someone Say Crab?
Seeing Fresh Portmagee Crab Claws on the menu was the winning moment for me.
In fact, the word crab claws had me entranced.
However, not knowing what it would look like I was super surprised at what they were.
A good surprise? Oh yes. Tender, moist, seafood-meaty yep!
SO if you had any questions about how that food was? I just answered it for you.
Traditional seafood, so good it should be a ‘fine-dining’ concept, yet is so casual.
It’s not a sports bar or a diner, it’s a great seafood bar.
Get take-out or eat in. It’s gastronomy perfection.
One More Look at Those Fresh Sliced Chips
The chips are knock-out, all-star and perfect.
Large. Plump. Chunks. Sure to please and not greasy.
Whatever you are doing, keep doing it, they are perfection in every bite (says this fry/chip connoisseur).
The Truth In Food
We had a few meals up the street in a hotel.
The food was not nearly as fresh or delicious as this and the price was 2x that.
Get out of the hotel, walk, and eat.
Fresh. Broiled, baked, fried, steamed, prepared to please.
Fresh fish is transformed into plated perfection, no matter what you choose.
Our thanks to Quinlan’s again for coordinating a fun night out. ~ DANA XO
