For all of you who prefer bar soap to liquid soap gel, I’ve got a way to wrangle the soapy, slimy gooey mess!
The Easy DIY Soap Saver
In fact, it’s an easy solution to messy bar soap sitting on public soap shelves (at colleges, universities, shared bathrooms). As a mom of 3, I’ve gotten very familiar with items that help their college lives and in fact, have used it on my own as well.
The DIY Soap Saver: It’s Not Sold In Stores
Packing my daughter up for school has led me down a DIY road that I know all too well.
Many things that I want her to have are not available, and some of the things I want her to have are very overpriced and simply are not worth it.
My Mom and I have been working equally hard on prepping her ‘items needed’ for college and this is not sold in stores.
Bath Gel. Bar Soap. Why You Need the DIY Soap Saver
Bath gel is amazing, but bath gel does NOT clean like a bar of soap can, over the grooves and crevices of the body that really let you get refreshed.
The trip back and forth to the shower is easy enough with a simple shower tote, but most totes have holes and a bar of soap in the bottom of a shower tote is a license for one big, gunky, not-so-lavish mess.
Get rid of the gunky soapy mess, and make this easy DIY Soap Saver for college,
Follow the simple step-by-step instructions on how to create your own.
DIY Soap Saver For College + Everyday Life At Any Sink or In Any Tub
I could hardly stand the thought of the gunk that would come from the soap and the mess, and then I started thinking about the ‘what-if’ factor of falling down on the mess that might drip out. My mom and I started talking about how we could create the perfect container.
The perfect diy soap saver for college that would alleviate the mess and clean up easily and what we created is the ultimate DIY Soap Saver for college. This container costs you pretty much nothing to make but will save you from slipping and all that soapy gunk!
DIY Makes It Easy
After striking out at the dollar-type stores, the drug-store travel sections, and our favorite Red retailer, we called it a day and went home, all the while bantering about what we might be able to use to create a soap container that would not leak gunk or create a mess in the shower tote.
We quickly batted out the possibility of using a zipper-like bag just for the gross factor.
A cup was not the solution because the water was going to accumulate and eat the bar of soap prematurely. I also was thinking like a college kid, ” who thinks about anything, shower, and run out the door” so seriously no one was going to tip that cup out of water.
A storage container was not a bad idea if we could find one of those old-fashioned teeth grips to hold the bar separate from the water, but we could not so back to the drawing board, or should I say our Pantry.
The Construction Process
My mom grabbed the following items to create this soap saver:
The sponge you use should be new and it can be thick or thin, your preference. The container you see above is from when we get olives in the grocery store or stuff out of the deli. The DIY Soap Saver will fit most regular bars of soap, so this is perfect, but if you happen to use over-soap bars, just get a wider container like a cool-whipped topping container.
Put the container on top of the sponge, and draw a circle around the base to get the perfect size, then cut the sponge! That is absolutely it. Put the sponge into the container and put the soap on it.
Why Makes This DIY Soap Saver For College
Why does the DIY Soap Saver For College works so well? This is a great situation where the sponge absorbs the excess water and then of course when air hits the sponge it dries and it becomes ready for the next shower adventure.
In addition, there is nowhere for the slosh to go and the gunk won’t build up and if it does, well, rinse the sponge out or cut another piece off of the original sponge. This is so easy to make, and so inexpensive.
Don’t forget the lid, that you can mark with a name, but if you do put the lid on, realize that air won’t dry the sponge. So, now my daughter has everything she needs from head to toe and this diy soap saver for college was a great, quick make, thanks to my mom’s quick thinking and a few extra things we had around the house.
