As you have already read, I traveled about an hour and a half away from Puerto Vallarta to a much more non-touristy area called San Sebastian del Oeste. We had toured the town, walked the Sierra Madres, visited La Bufa and now we were famished.
I had my family with me, and as you all know Niko has severe food allergies. Being able to speak Spanish was a big vantage point, but also has his list of food allergies in Spanish was my best friend and El Fortin Restaurant was where we decided to dine. We had our choice of a few places but one was busy and one was not our ‘style’.
Get ready for fabulous eats in a small restaurant with plenty of authentic Mexican food and really delicious pizza! Lavishly live culinary travel out loud at El Fortin Restaurant in San Sebastian del Oeste.
El Fortin Restaurant in San Sebastian del Oeste
This is an inside view looking out of the restaurant. It is just a few tables and chairs. You can eat outside, I have a photo of that as well. The very simple design is functional, authentic and perfect for stopping. You will walk a good bit in this area, so the perfect stopping point is right here before you head back to your hotel.
Before you get too excited, let me tell you, this is the most simple little restaurant in the town, it is the smaller of the few restaurants, but it is very good. It does not need to be big to be good and there is a restroom here as well with toilet paper.
Laugh as you may one place in the town does not have toilet paper it is a commodity, so consider this when you pack your bag for the day before you leave your hotel. Yes this truly happened to us, no toilet paper! Just one of many fun stories we have!
In fact, I was in search of Pizza, something I knew Niko could eat and we found these great little pizzas and so much more. Food allergies are awful, but we managed with pizza you know we were in good shape.
The pizzas were awesome. Did I mention the ketchup thing yet and Mexico? The strangest food pairing is pizza and ketchup here, I have never heard of anything like this and I personally did not like the taste!
The cost is sinfully inexpensive, in fact, if you look at the menu you will note that a pizza cost on average, under $3. The exchange rate at current is 20 pesos to one dollar American. So for about $4 a person, we ate pizza and drank Coca-Cola.
OUTSIDE
Here is an outdoor photo of their patio.
SALAD
I was starved and ordered this salad, with pears, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes it was delicious.
ORDERING DECISIONS
The kids had a hard time deciding what to eat, as the menu was pretty darn big.
Food Prep
This is the food being cooked. I just kept snapping photos sorry, it’ what I do!
The PIZZAS
Pepperoni Pizza
Garlic and Feta Cheese Pizza
And of course Coca-Cola and Fresca
Looking outside
When we were done, more people were coming in, it gets quite busy here. Do as for your bill or you will sit for a while that is my only tip. Also if you need a bathroom this restaurant has one and it has toilet paper (which is somewhat of a commodity but this is a long story)
If you find yourself touring San Sebastian del Oeste you really want to stop here and have a meal. The food is good and the prices are really fair!
