I don’t know about you but the smell of the funnel cake wafting in the air sends my nose into overdrive. What I don’t need are all the calories and cholesterol that accompany those sweet little bites of heaven. This is my Funnel Cake Hack and I can’t wait to share it with you.  I love the crispness of the crunch whenever you bite into the funnel cake and I love the confectionery sugar that is sprinkled atop each morsel.  Craving and wanting that devilish food known as a Funnel Cake, I have creatively created what I am terming a Funnel Cake Hack.

Why am I calling this a funnel cake hack? This is a way to make something a funnel cake without making a funnel cake, it is the easier way of doing things, therefore defined as a hack. Lavishly live the funnel cake hack out loud as I show you how to create a funnel cake with no frying.

Funnel Cake Hack

I have found a way to make a replica funnel cake with no frying, and only using a toaster. I love this particular hack because I can also make sure that the funnel cake is allergen-free by using products that my son with severe food allergies can enjoy, which is not possible when purchasing a funnel cake out of the house!

 A few nights ago, we had been at a fair and my husband had purchased a funnel cake. It was insanely sweet, crunchy, and really just to die for. I truly watch my sugar, my cholesterol, and all of the fat that I put into my body because trust me as we age it definitely adds up in places that I don’t even want to mention.

 The next morning the coffee was brewing, the hash-browns were cooking and I placed a chocolate chip waffle into my toaster walked away and then came back into the kitchen.  I began sniffing as I noted a familiar scent, one that had wafted into our car the previous day, that of a Funnel Cake.  Now I was even hungrier as I was searching for the ultimate in treats, but there was no funnel cake to be found, rather a toasted waffle.  I-N-S-P-I-R-A-T-I-O-N set in.

I placed the waffles on a PAPER Plate to absorb their excess moisture, as when the waffle comes out of the toaster against a stone plate it gets soggy(hate that) and then I headed to the pantry for confectionery sugar.

Items Needed to Create A Funnel Cake

1.  A set of waffles, chocolate chip or plain multi-grain, whatever flavor you love

2. Toaster – Set it on the defrost setting and when he comes back up place it on the number one setting to get it just crisp enough.

3.  When the waffle comes out put it on a paper plate so that the moisture is absorbed from the toasting.

4.  While it is warm dust the waffle with confectionery sugar and as it cools do it again.   a

5.  Get ready to crunch and enjoy this little bit of heaven, that is a replica of those more fattening and cholesterol-laden funnel cakes.
