Driving into the Kingsmill Resort I knew we had arrived at exactly what we had been looking for. The sign greeted us and then, of course, we drove up and saw the guest registration building.
Once we saw the sign for Guest Registration, the excitement just continued to build and then we entered the building. I have to say, I almost felt like I was in the most magical place of all because it felt so similar on the inside.
The resort offers golf, tennis, spa, marina, fitness center and multiple pool choices, everything to make a vacation perfect. Golf cart rides to amazing rooms paved the way to a lovely time spent at the Kingsmill Resort. The natural surroundings are complimented beautifully landscaped grounds. Lavishly live this episode of travel out loud as we visit Kingsmill Resort, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Kingsmill Resort
Kingsmill Resort is so close to the amusement park, water park, and Williamsburg. We could have taken the complimentary shuttle that runs day-long from Kingsmill Resort to any of these locations making it possible to not have to drive and park your car at these places. (blessed!)
I am at the base of the steps to what used to be Moody’s Tavern. Some of the best photos of Kingsmill Resort can be taken from up on the outside balcony or enjoy a drink and let life just happen.
The Golf Cart Rides
While we were on the property we did a great deal of walking and as we walked we became very tired. The perfect solution to our tired peds was riding a golf cart to our condo. We simply asked and they drove us.
We were at the pool with the lazy river (River Pool Complex) and after a day in the sun, and swimming, we got a bit tired, so we just had to call and ask for the Golf Cart and it came and picked us up. I loved the fact that we did not have to walk from the pool back to the room.
The Pools
Honestly, the pools are well located throughout the resort, and the one that is furthest away was the River Pool Complex. We spent a great deal of time at this pool because my kids loved the Lazy River, and the food service at this location best. The servers were readily available and all they had to do was raise the flag to order.
I suggest the Firefly Vodka Tea.
Right by the River Pool Complex are the Cottages and these are brand new and perfect for families as they boast 4 rooms in each and are at the river’s edge.
We discovered 2 pools at the fitness center complex, one on the inside and one on the outside. We always swam on the outside, because we wanted to enjoy the outdoors, but there were plenty of people at the indoor pool.

Walk The Property
I spent a little time with Ben the concierge because I wanted to make sure that we painted the town red (so to speak) while we were at Kingsmill Resort. Ben gave me the insider’s scoop and we went with it.
Here’s what you want to make sure to cover while you are there. First and foremost, Kingsmill Resort is all about family, downtime, and relaxation. Don’t let life get ahead of you while you are there, enjoy the walking trails, the bike trails and sitting at water’s edge.
Visit the Marina, and if you love water sports, rent a Jet Ski, a pontoon, a kayak, paddle board or even fishing equipment.
There are Segway tours if you prefer to ride through the resort, I can personally tell you, walking is the best way to take everything in and there are plenty of pathways and trails.
For The Fitness Buff
If you have not walked or swam enough, or played enough golf to keep you feeling ‘fit’ then the fitness center is your recipe for fun. The Center has great hours and so much equipment. We visited it at a few different times and there was always enough equipment for everyone.
Tennis Anyone
The Tennis Center is another HUB of activity. At this location, we found a Kid’s Club, tennis courts, a place to buy souvenirs (hats, tees, etc) and really delicious quick bites from sandwiches to coffee and ice cream. If you do nothing else, visit there for an ice cream and the ambiance because it is gorgeous and the photos don’t do justice.
You can sit outside and enjoy the view of the courts and many families were in fact outside hanging out at tables. The Tennis Center is also where you rent bikes, they are rented by the hour. The day we went, there were not enough bikes left to rent (as we noted walking by) so make sure to get there early or reserve ahead.
There are 2 choice trails for biking, each 4 miles and very flat. One trail loops around and the other you have to loop back from the end to the beginning.
The Spa
Regretfully, I did not have time to make an appointment for the SPA, but that is on my list when I return.
Dining
There are a few restaurant and dining options in the resort, and while reservations are recommended, if you can’t get in, order the food to your room! The food poolside is really delicious and so are the libations and the virgin drinks. We had a nice bit of this as we were poolside. Do check what attire is proper for dining at each location, as it varies.
The Pettus House
The Pettus House is now where my non-engaged daughter has declared she wants to get married and have her reception — I have to remember to warn her father! While you can not gain entrance to the Pettus House unless you are having an event there, just being able to walk the property is something you have to do.
Grocery Store & Oddities
As with any condo renting, you are going to need food and right outside of the gated property is a Harris Teeter and yes we did pay it a visit because with growing teens not having food in the room at all points is a ‘no go’
We also traveled 10 minutes down the road to a Target (Best Buy, Kohl’s) are also in this plaza 5 minutes beyond this is the General Store in Williamsburg where we bought tees, hats, bottled local sodas, etc. I also saw an Applebee’s, Chili’s, and so many gas stations. Everything is so close to the resort.
Kingsmill Resort For Families
There were many families here and the resort is fabulously breathtaking no matter where you are. We can not wait to return and we’d like to extend our thanks once again to the Kingsmill Resort for the grand accommodations they provided.
