A Very BASIC Outdoor Movie Screen That You Can Leave Outside
For this really big outdoor movie screen, you can use wood pallets, that’s right a few wood pallets and suddenly you are going to have a big movie screen, but there are pros and cons to this one.
CONS: This project is heavy to move around, and it will be lower so you’ll have fewer seating options. PROS: Make it and leave it outside, it’s waterproof and very budget-friendly. You can get your hands on these for FREE at a lot of stores. For this particular movie screen, you would need a double pallet and 3 Shower Curtains (Dollar stores will work, one in black and two in white).
Building this DIY Outdoor Movie Screen
Use Gorilla Tape to adhere to the shower curtains, one by one to the pallet. Place the pallet atop maybe foundation blocks and definitely against a tree, or sturdy table. The whole project is U$6. Do consider that this screen with the shower curtain won’t surpass 72″ so it may not be the ideal size you were looking for. However, it is waterproof, which is a bonus, if you don’t want a versatile screen (meaning one you can bring in and outdoors!).
This screen will get the job done. Gorilla Tape($3) Dollar Store Shower Curtains ($3) Double wooden pallet(free) with a place to lean it against. Now if you are intrigued, let’s get into what I made as a DIY outdoor movie screen!
Options for Hanging a DIY Outdoor Movie Screen
A Curtain Rod Valance with A Sheet Makes a Really big Outdoor Movie Screen
PROS: Can be hung inside or outside, and used every day (indoors). It’s washable.
CONS: Requires drilling, hanging, and a long pole (which can be expensive), plus the hooks for hanging are not inexpensive.
By now, you’ve been online and Googled so many different ways to hang a DIY Outdoor movie screen, right?I did that, way back too, then I got practical and said, none of it works for me and went to work with 5 simple materials. You could use a wooden fence (if your yard has one). Hang a simple valance on the fence, with curtain drapery rod brackets. Great idea. But, not so great if you don’t have a way to mount it.
Covered Patio and Building a DIY Outdoor Movie Screen Option
However, if you have a covered patio, deck, etc, you’ve got a ceiling. Get a WHITE Sheet (Queen 90″ x 102″ or Full 81″ x 96″) Consider using the ceiling to mount, ceiling curtain drapery rod brackets. Of course, if you move inside, you can mount either on the walls or ceiling.
Naturally, you will need the really big curtain rod too that extends from 72″ to 144″.Don’t forget multiple curtain rings with clips to keep the screen hung tight and not sway. Last, if you use this method, you will need to run an additional curtain rod at the base. Therefore, just repeat all the above steps to hang a curtain rod and pull the sheet you use tight!
My Really Big Outdoor Movie Screen That is Indoor Useable Too!
First, I long time ago, I purchased a backdrop support system for all the photos I take. You might not have one, but they are NOT expensive and it takes about 2 minutes to set up! (yep, timesaving, and not back-breaking).
The backdrop support system offers me options that range from the smaller big screen to a larger big screen as it’s adjustable.
Consequently, I can adjust the width from 4 feet to 10 feet (48″ to 120″). As a result, I can put a really big DIY Outdoor movie screen on this.
Accordingly, I don’t need any help setting it up, but if someone is around, I ‘borrow’ them to go faster, lol.
Next, because I use a backdrop support system, it’s totally portable, I can tote it, in its carry bag anywhere I go.
To that end, I can move it from the upstairs to the downstairs of the interior, or I can take it outside because it collapses and comes apart! Last, I use some incredible clamps that hold my material in place, no second bar required! Use the directions below to build your own Really Big Outdoor movie screen that can be used indoors too!
