I can honestly not believe July is in just a few short days! The longer we get into summer, the hotter it gets, and what better place to cool off, then by the pool for the day? There is just something so enticing to me about a day at the pool, nothing but relaxation and tan lines, it’s exactly what summer is made of!
Summer, fun in the sun, and water all just go together don’t they? Before I take off to the pool club, I make sure my bag is packed. Today I am going to share what’s in my bag. Hopefully, my tips will help you pack up faster and get out the door quicker.
Going to a pool club is far different than having a pool in your own backyard. Therefore it does require a bit of planning. I miss the days of having a pool in my own backyard. I created the Essential Guide of Must-Haves for a Day At The Pool to make it faster and easier to get going.

The Essential Guide For Must-Haves For A Day At the Pool
If you’re like me, planning a day at the pool requires a lot of planning the first few times. However, once you have your pool bag and figure out your essentials, you’re set for the season. While it might seem odd to read a list of things to take to the pool, I can assure you has helped me a lot.
I grew up with an inground pool. Every day, all I had to do was change clothes and go to my backyard. Really, I miss the privacy and enormous amount of time I spent swimming and having the pool to myself. Truly uncomplicated time, well spent.
Hydration
In the summer it is so important to keep hydrated especially during a long day in the sun when you’re in the water, you might forget your body needs water! Luckily hydration for a pool day can be found in more than just a traditional water bottle (which I totally recommend)!
Watermelon is one of my favorite summer fruits and it doubles as a way to have a yummy, cool treat, and keep yourself hydrated! Cut it in cubes the night before, and pack the cubes into little zippered bags. Don’t forget a napkin or paper towel section.
Cucumbers are an excellent source of a crunchy snack while being very high in water and low in calories. Peel, slice, zipper bag, open, then crunch. Easy, peasy!
Regular water is fantastic too, but nothing says summer more than coconut water, and it hydrates you twice as fast as regular water! Of course, you could always add slices of fruit to your water to enhance the flavor naturally.
Don’t forget to fill your plain water bottle with only 1/2 water and then 1/2 ice. As the day progresses the ice will melt providing you more water! Additionally, the water will stay really cool!
A Good Sunscreen
Obviously, one of the main exciting things about summer is how bright and warm the sun feels against our skin, but in order to feel that warmth and reduce damage and risk of skin cancer, a good sunscreen is vital.
It can be so hard to find a good sunscreen that doesn’t diminish in water or make your skin sticky. I have the hardest time finding a face sunscreen that doesn’t make my skin itch or blemish.
However, I have found that wearing a good CC creme is my best bet! Why? Not only does the one I use from ITCosmetics have SPF 50 in it, but it also gives me even coverage on my face and it lasts all day! Kind of a win/win right?

Swoon-Worthy Book or Magazine
Nothing is better to me than sitting by the pool with a good book. In the summer, I like to take a break from obligatory class reading and find books that are more tailored to my hobbies and particular interests.
As a huge romantic novelist enthusiast, I have a list of books I compiled throughout the year that I wait until summer to break out and find at my local library. If I’m not reading fiction, another favorite poolside read of mine are motivational books. These books help to reset my internal clock and get me ready for the next week. They intrigue and ignite my positivity in life!
Best Options for Magazines, Books and Reading Poolside?
My new favorite way to read a magazine, however, is not carrying the traditional paper, nope, not for me! Rather, on my Kindle! It’s adjustable lighting, thin, lite and most importantly..Waterproof so you can read by the pool or use it in the tub too (bonus idea!).
When I want more recipes I read my Taste of Home digital subscription or my Food Network magazine. Digital subscriptions are eco-friendly and much more budget-friendly than traditional print!
A Good Set of Earbuds
If you’re one of those people who can lay and tan without a jam blasting in your ears, then kudos to you because I definitely can’t survive without my summer tunes! Our pool club is loaded with kids and while I don’t mind that, I do mind all the crazy noise!
Earbuds allow you to escape the noise and just relax. Therefore, a good pair of earbuds are essential to me when I am planning a pool day because being able to cancel out the noise around me and jam out! That is a must for me when poolside, can you tell?
Detangler/Chlorine Cleanup Shampoo
My hair is at its worst right after a long stint of chlorine. I do 2 things to keep my tresses well cared for, remember my hair is insanely wavy/curly and it gets a little funky after a day at the pool. No one wants straw textured hair. I use a spray on detangler and I use a shampoo that removes the chlorine from my hair.
So, while it is refreshing for the day, in the long run, chlorine is not so fantastic for your hair. Bring along Zelios Sulfate Free Swim & Sport Shampoo.
