We packed up the kids and we headed out the door, with plans to visit the D.C. Area, Virginia and then do just a bit more. As fate would have it, we got to try out a really amazing dining venue, with our kids.
My oldest son is a turtle fanatic, so when he heard the word TURTLE in the name, he just had to go. You see, my son Michael is totally obsessed with turtles, and burgers so when he heard the name, ” The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille” there was just no stopping him and his quest for a burger while dining in a place that loved the name as much as he did!
Have you ever seen the video where the kids say, ” I Like Turtles?” In my world, my son for about 6 months straight answered me with only one phrase: ” I like Turtles!” Let me show you why you will love turtles too, or should I say why you just have to love on The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille! It’s not just the name that is cool the food and atmosphere offer so much more than the average restaurant! Lavishly live this adventure in travel and food out loud as we visit The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille
The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille
As for my son, if he could eat burgers for every meal he would be one happy boy so the truest test,(as all you parents know) is dining in a place and having your kids tell you how good or bad it is! Is the Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille ready to Burger Boy Connoisseur (MJ), a child with nut, latex and seafood allergies as well as a vegetarian (who does eat seafood) and you might be very surprised! Oh, and if you are from Pittsburgh, or LOVE the Steelers you definitely need to read this article!
First I want to introduce you to everyone at The Greene Turtle! Rob is the GM (Bottom Left) and he is a native Pittsburgher, Nate is the Manager (Top Left) who is creating some wonderful Gluten Free Options and healthy food for all of us!
Cindy (botton Right) was our server(she knows the menu beyond the menu and so nice you will feel like you have known her for years! Brent and Darlene (Top Right) are the Owners, passionate about food, ambiance and probably to date, some of the nicest folks we have ever met! They work each day to make your dining experience unsurpassed and they make sure their establishment is FAMILY friendly so bring the kids!
Food Ahead: Destination The Greene Turtle
Our destination tonight was The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille and spell GREENE with an ‘E’ at the end. The address one we visited was located at Marketplace at Potomac Station, 603 Potomac Station Drive, Leesburg, VA 20176.
I do want to stress this is just ONE location of The Greene Turtle, in fact, there are 37 open locations which stretch from Virginia to New York’s Long Island and there are commitments to open many more, so don’t be surprised if you see one popping up in your neck of the woods, which brings me to my Pittsburgh Point…
We Need This Restaurant In Pittsburgh
Dear Pittsburgh, as the City of Champions, a place where sports played(and highly celebrated) every season provides a reason to celebrate life out loud, where better than in a professional establishment that is all about Sports, and Food! Meet The Greene Turtle, somewhere to bring the family, enjoy great food and drinks and join in on the cheering on of our teams! Are we the champions right? Pittsburgh, as a City of Champions, I believe to lavishly live out loud our great city needs this restaurant in it! P.S. Pittsburgh, the GM in Leesburg, Rob is a native of Pittsburgh!
STEELERSISM in Leesburg Location!
Let me offer you this Pittsburgh and all Steelers fans out there: the owners Brent and Darlene, love the Steelers as do their clientele and they have a room that is dedicated to….. The Steelers. Here’s a quick peek into the room and they even hosted a black and gold party there today right before we dined!
Burger Boy Tests Out The Greene Turtle
As I mentioned, my son Michael is a burger lovin’ hound and he can sniff out a Bacon Burger miles away. Once while we were on a week’s vacation he ate burgers every day (I know bad mom, but he was still eating!)
The Greene Turtle was the perfect location for him to test out a Fresh, Certified Angus, Beef Burger, Char-Grilled and served on a Brioche Bun which translates to one of the most bad ass burgers you will sink your teeth into and wrap your lips around, moist, meaty, tender and cooked to perfection!
I did ask my son if he was going to test out the PB&J Bacon Burger the burger boasts, a Peanut butter and raspberry jelly covered burger and then it has bacon on it. How about that for different and awesome sounding? Well, you are about to witness first hand, his truest thoughts on this combination!
My other son, as you know has extensive food allergies, so dining is never easy and french fries anywhere is a rarity. However, Owner Brenda and Nate actually worked on BAKED Fries as a healthier, safer alternative for our son, and their clients. This meant he could dine on and enjoy baked fries that came into contact with NOTHING— and he ate those fries!
As for his burger, he had so much on his plate, he managed to eat 1/2 and he took the rest with him(of course snacks the next day are always great!)
ALLERGIES & Dining at THE GREENE TURTLE
Again, you all know my trials and tribulations of life, having a child that can hardly eat out, and when he does, every possible circumstance has to be thought of before even one bite of food crosses into his mouth! I spoke with the truly wonderful and accommodating owners, the manager and the GM and they made sure that everything was taken care of, but not just for us, for ALL of their guests.
Vegetarian Dining – The Greene Turtle
A variety of dining options occurs in my world and it’s not just nut free, shellfish free. I am a Vegetarian and often dining out is boring because there is not much to choose from for my lifestyle. I end up picking a few things from the appetizers or side dishes to make a meal because Vegetarian is just not always an offered option. The Greene Turtle took my head Vegetarian menu and scored, check out this option: A Veggie Wrap. This little baby has avocado slaw, pico de gallo, sharp cheddar cheese, leafy greens, scallions and a zesty cilantro lime dressing in a spinach tortilla. Served with mixed green, sounds simply tantalizing right? But wait, there’s more, lots more to choose from, I snapped a bunch of photos from the menu to show

Cheers From The Greene Turtle
Cheers, I mean after all I rarely offer you a restaurant piece without my ‘toast to each of you!’ These were $3 specials of Bud Light, what a deal~
My meal was as awesome as it looked in the picture, and the crab meat was really lumped crab, nothing imitation and no bi-products here! 100% pure yum and I loved the chips with it, not to mention my beer in my souvenir cup!
Here’s a look at the side salads- so fresh and I recommend the Balsamic Dressing- delightful
The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille has over 37 locations and continues to expand, and their menu offers something for those that are laden with allergies(nut-free, gluten free, latex free, vegetarian) to those that love to sink their teeth into meat! The bar drinks, beers on tap(and in collectible plastic cups) offer a great selection of fun libations and I am sure will keep us going back no matter where we see a Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille.
Get ready to lavishly live dining out loud with The Greene Turtle as you will find great food, a perfect atmosphere for family and friends alike. The Greene Turtle may be opening in a location near you, or maybe there is one.. you gotta try it.
