The days in St. Maarten are warm, not humid, just warm. While the sun glistens across the water, it also tops off your forehead. Walking and exploring is all part of the best vacation St. Maarten experience.
One place, you will find locals, cruise ship passengers and resort guest together is at the Philpsburg boardwalk. After all, we all love to shop and the port of call is extremely popular. While staying across the bay, we noted a minimum of 1 cruise ship a day and up to 4 on others.
The Philipsburg boardwalk area, lets you experience the water, shopping, and great eats. Now, if you are craving a cool, tasty, refreshing treat, and want the best backdrop to enjoy it in, I’ll share where.
Get off that cruise ship, out of the resort and let’s dig into cool scoops of authentic gelato in Philipsburg. The perfect way to start a day off or end a day. Cheers to this great Gelateria in a hot spot. Let me introduce you as to where to find really refreshing Gelato with a great view in Philipsburg.
Where To Find Really Refreshing Gelato With A Great View in Philipsburg
Cruisers, islanders, and resort guests frequent this Philipsburg Gelateria because it is that good. The address you are looking for is, right off the ship (it’s on your walk out of the port of call). If you are staying at a local resort, head to the Philipsburg boardwalk.
Here’s the physical address of Gelateria Milano, Boardwalk #14 (1,861.30 mi), Philipsburg, Netherlands Antilles 0000. You are now at the Gelateria Milano. The cases are loaded with your favorite flavors. If you don’t have a favorite flavor you will soon adopt one, because anything you choose just POPS in your mouth and goes does with panache.
We walked in from the Guavaberry Emporium (on Front Street) and cut through a very pretty alley way. Do this too. You need to know this. Here, you will find, a quiet place to sit, and savor the gelato and escape from the sunshine (well, for a little).
Getting There From Front Street
Perhaps the most beautiful walkway we experienced while touring St. Maarten, the Dutch Side, it’s one you don’t want to miss. At least for photo opps, stop and look. The trellising floral will catch your attention as well as the potted plants.
From top to bottom, I loved this alley way, it was just so St. Maarten and welcoming. Flowers and plants truly are part of any destination, yet we often walk right on by. Not here. Stop, saunter, savor and enjoy.
There are plenty of welcoming chairs and tables for anyone wanting to not sit beach side. However, it is a well-known ‘spot’ so you might have to wait for that seat, but you will get it. Everyone stops, and then moves on.
Storefront Of Milano Gelateria
Here is the storefront you are looking for. Next door is a place to shop. So you can eat, enjoy, then shop. Perfectly situated at the beginning of the boardwalk or the end, depending how you are coming at it.
I appreciated the cleanliness of the establishment. It was spot on and that is what I seek. So this gets a big thumbs up from this culinary gal!
The Boardwalk Side
Before I continue, let me just share this, if you have kids, this is the only playground on the Dutch Side and it’s right on the boardwalk. There is no charge. Let the enjoy their Gelato by the spoon and run it off as they play. While they play, steal a bite of theirs (shhhhh parenting win!).
Honestly, the owner of the Milano Gelateria put a lot of time and energy into developing this because traveling with kids is never easy. He’s thoughtful and the backdrop, is outstanding. The day we were there, ships were docked, the sky was pristine blue and the water was sparkling.
The million dollar view of Gelato and a side of ambiance is priceless.
Flavors We Sampled
In my cup, Raspberry. Truly berries and the secret Gelato mix. That’s it. Fresh. Simple. Satisfying with the perfect backdrop, wouldn’t you agree? Perhaps you want a different flavor? There are many.
As a girl who is not only Italian, but has been to Milan, all over Italy and spent a summer in Sardinia, I’d say this is delicious and comparable to the Gelato I ate in Italy. So, yes, authentic.
Nutella
Sorry, but everyone was eating it faster than I could snap some pictures, but you get the idea. Here is the Nutella (I think) and below I will share the Vanilla Tahiti.
Vanilla Tahiti
This was the one that Where Niko Travels ate, as it had the least possible cross contamination issues and ingredients he was NOT allergic too. Everyone has different allergies, so inquire then try at your own risk.
Our cup size is Small, so note this, if you are trying to decide what size to get.
The case is filled with fun flavors from Nutella, to Pistachio, Tiramisu, Coconut, Coffee, Vanilla Tahiti, Lemon, Rum Raisin, Raspberry, etc. Do know this, even with severe food allergies, Where Niko Travels ate here. He did stay low-key and plain but he ate and enjoyed. That is an important note to make when traveling, because food allergies are not easy to deal with. We thank the OWNER for this.
Hint For Those At The Little Divi Bay Beach Resort
If you are lucky enough to be a guest of the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, you have this Gelato on premises. Head to the Fort Amsterdam Cafe and get a cup each day! Yes, there are many flavors, not as many as in town, but you can definitely feast! LOVE This.
One More Look, Then You Need To Go
For anyone in the St. Maarten area, this is the stop to make. Whether by cruise, resort or local, Philipsburg is a great area for shopping, dining and just being. Now to entice you just one more time, here’s a lovely Raspberry, and look how brilliant the color is. Gelato in a cup, now in my belly! Definitely a culinary destination for treats, so be sure to stop at the Milano Gelateria. ~ DANA XO
My thanks to Milano Gelateria for the taste-testing component at your store. Cheers and continued success! ~ Dana XO
