Plant-based protein smoothie options are all over the internet but have you tried any of them?
I can tell you I have and Oh-Mee-Gee I’d rather eat dry clay than put the plant-based protein smoothie recipes out there in my mouth. Total YUCK!
Plant-based Protein Smoothie – Base Matters
So when you begin your adventure into the plant-based protein smoothie options you might find a lot of options, but once you start into those options, the choices definitely become defined.
Why? Because a lot of the plant-based protein smoothie powders taste like chalk, clay, dirt, garbage, mold, whatever you want to refer to it as.
There’s no way to cover up bad plant-based protein smoothie mixes because the taste does not get disguised.
I don’t care what blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, or green you put into that bad-tasting plant-based protein smoothie powder, the awful taste is staying.
Beyond the Bad Taste of Most Plant-Based Protein Smoothie Powders…
If you make the drink and with a horrible tasting plant-based protein smoothie powder, chances are the smell will knock you out as well as the nasty taste!
Plus as a super added bonus, to the nasty taste and smell, you will BURP most of those plant-based protein smoothie powders up long after you drank them.
Thanks no thanks. What I put in, I want to stay down, I don’t need leftovers splashing back up in my mouth! YUCK!
Unfortunately, It’s Not At Costco
Here’s the think about these powders, if you don’t have friends who have some of them, you might spend a lot to only be disappointed.
This is why I titled this section, ‘It is not at Costco!’
I wish it was and I would be able to sample it but here’s how I figured my way to this fabulous plant-based protein!
The Real Deal – Plant-Based Protein Smoothie You Will Love ♥
First, let’s talk about plant-based protein powder. I have tried so many and YUCK to most.
Additionally, I have tried many pre-made as well. Generally, I avoid premade as there are additives and preservatives and that’s NOT the point of a freshly-prepped smoothie right?
So I changed the plant protein I was using. The original plant protein I was using was leaving an aftertaste and well, I am done with that!
Then I experimented with many different proteins. In fact, I even borrowed a few scoops of many different kinds from so many friends so I didn’t have to invest in them in case I despised them which I did!
Finally, I struck gold when I went to a store, Googled a product, and read its reviews! Lightening in a powder!
Here’s the plant-based protein smoothie powder I am gushing about! Order it while you keep reading to grab my recipe.
Now, the protein is just powder. But it’s changed my world of protein drinks and it does not have a funky smell or taste.
There is ONLY one thing you need to know, that makes or breaks using this plant-based smoothie powder and I will share that now!
How To Make The Best Plant-Based Protein Smoothie without Gunk Chunks
If you have ever used protein powder you know it’s infamous for not mixing in. Really there is a method to the madness.
First, layer in whatever you are using but NOT the powder.
So if you like berries and spinach or kale, put them in first.
Then you’ll want to add in your choice of liquid. For me, it’s Oatmeal, almond, or coconut milk, I am always changing it up for a taste!
After all that is in the smoothie mixer, add in the powder and lock the lid on!
Trust me, this plant-based protein smoothie mixes well but who the hell wants gunks and chunks of it while they are drinking? NOT me!
Always add the powder at the top of the mixer! Enough said or you will gag on dry and nasty!
My Personal Recipe – I am a Texture Girl
To avoid smoothness, which I can not drink, chug, etc., I add berries. Not just a few, a cup.
Getting texture means, berries, raspberries, strawberries, and not overmixing so there are a few chunks of those berries.
The spinach or kale goes towards the top too because I prefer to never crunch on a piece of it in a smoothie (just preference!)
What color Do You Want Your Plant-Based Protein SMoothie To BE?
Me, I’m all about the color in my cup, and if it’s not pretty I am not drinking it.
Purple OH YEA!
You don’t need to be a chemist to get this to happen.
All you need to do is add more of the blackberries and blueberries to make a purple ‘ish’ plant-based protein smoothie.
If you love pink and red, add in more raspberries and strawberries to get that fabulous pink.
Yes, it is that easy!
