New destinations are always fun to explore. Me, I love walking around and driving around to really get a feeling for the area. Generally, along the way, I find things that I love, from street art to small boutique shops, there’s always something!
Sometimes the hardest thing about traveling somewhere is the fact that we run out of time to do more sightseeing. Solve that problem by using the method I am about to share with you. After all, it is better to see an area and grab what you can capture than to never have any exposure to it. That’s what travel is all about!
Now, if you are heading through a city, you might as well stop. Drive around a few of the streets and see what you can. Often it is easier to do a few passes down a street than it is to stop, park and get to it. So today, I want to share with you a city you can drive through, a few of the streets and capture a lot of lovely imagery.
Here are destinations to seek out in St. Joseph, Missouri in case you are short on time and want to make sure to capture more than you can imagine in a simple ride in a car.
Destinations To Seek Out in St. Joseph, Missouri
First things first, driving through an area can be so darn gratifying. What someone told me, is that they stumbled upon St. Joseph’s hotspots that I am about to share as they were passing through to a local Jeep/Ram dealership. That story alone is fun! I mean, I can relate to going all over to find the right vehicle at the right dealership.
So, what destinations should you seek out if you want to do a driveable tour of the St. Joseph area?
Hall Street Historic District
If you are heading to the Hall Street Historic District, program your Google Directions on your smartphone for the streets between 6th & 9th streets. Don’t worry about parking a car, a slow drive through should do it and of course, you can pull off to the side if need be.
Hall Street is on the National Historic Register. What you are going to see are lovely, historic mansions. The area is known officially or unofficially as ‘Mansion Row.’ Many of the homes are now in transitional phases of renovation!
Museum Hill Historic District
Yes, another historic district, that you can again drive through and gain perspective on the past. You may want to get out and walk around in this area, in case you love architecture. So your range of the area goes from some in pristine condition to some so dilapidated you stop and wonder what could have been? Elegant are a few while others just are so deteriorated.
Now, right smack dab in the middle of all of this is Wyeth Tootle Mansion. 3 floors and more than 40 rooms, it is something to see!
Pony Express Monument
Just stop by while in your car, and snap a photo of the Pony Express Monument it is Instagram-Worthy. You can say, ‘been there, done that!’ It is perfect for passing through and grabbing one important photo!
Like I said sometimes a drive-through is a great way to capture what you might otherwise miss! Enjoy your travels! ~ DANA Xo
