Why Did I Seal Our Countertops?
Because I called the contractor, who vowed to come out after installation to seal them again, but he would not come out and refused to find the time.
To be honest, I called the contractor between my travels and asked him to come back for another granite installation in another room. Unfortunately, the contractor was too busy to help me.
Then, when he came out for a repair, he offered to seal the counter for a LOT of Money, when in reality it was NOT worth the price!
My Favorite Kitchen Upgrade: Granite Countertops
The day we installed our granite countertops was one of my favorite upgrade days in our new home.
I live out of our kitchen when I am not traveling for work as a travel and culinary travel gal!
Honestly, the installation process had me reconsidering my decision, especially because of the center island countertops and the boom!
Scheduling the installation was a logistical nightmare (with my schedule) and the granite provider.
Eventually, it all fell together, and I am so happy we bid adieu to the old countertops.
I am sure your story reads similarly unless you bought a home with installed granite countertops.
Take the ‘UGH’ out of sealing granite countertops!
Not really feeling like taking on any more ‘projects’ in the house, I did not want to seal the granite countertops myself.
When I talked to the granite guy, he estimated the cost of sealing my granite countertops.
If you’ve watched cartoons and seen eyeballs pop out and then go back in on a slinky, that’s my version.
The counter space area is larger, and there is ‘elbow grease,’ For 20 minutes between applications, the bill was approximately $500.
The company’s schedule to seal our countertops did not mesh with mine, and the price was insane!
How To Maintain the Countertops of Grainte It’s Easy
Also, the contractor should never have offered it because he preferred installation to upkeep.
For me to do this little task on my own approximately $50.
What Sealer Did I Use To Seal My Granite Countertops?
One of the biggest decisions was which granite sealer to use on my countertops.
I spent time reading reviews before I tackled all of this.
Also, I took a trip to Home Depot and Lowe’s and talked to the people in the departments.
The overall word on the granite street was Granite Gold.
NO streaking or headaches, just plain easy.
There was another product in-store, and no one recommended it.
Guess what?
Granite Gold won me over, and I also bought the Shine product to follow up on my granite sealer.
All-in-all, I spent about $60 (not $50) because I used a spray bottle and a 1/2 as well as the sealer.
Everyone’s granite countertop space is different; you might need more or less.

Step- by step: How to Easily Seal Granite Countertops.
You need to clean your countertops.
Free them of any loose debris first, like breadcrumbs and food particles.
Then you’ve got actually to clean them.
My favorite cleaning agent for my granite countertops has been Dawn.
However, if you have lighter countertops, steer away from green because it will leave a small stain (so I’ve been told by someone there, done that!).
Wash your countertops, then allow them to dry completely.
Walk away, do other things, or wash them before you go to bed.
Get off anything sticky, but don’t scrub with steel wool or abrasive anything.
Soap and water do the trick.
Next Step to Easily Seal Granite Countertops
Ensure you have time because you can’t let the sealer dry on the countertop.
You’ll need to buff and shine, then repeat.
I was spacing out about 20 minutes between applications.
Also, you need to NOT use the newly sealed countertop for at least 24 hours.
Once I was done, I followed it with the Granite Gold Polish Spray.
Planning is crucial when sealing granite countertops.
I alternated my granite countertop sealing.
Starting on the chef’s center island and a side counter first, then the other counter the next day.
Since the counters really needed sealing, I had to make 2 applications.
Each took me approximately 30 minutes as I sprayed, buffed, and polished.
Remember, I had to allow 20 minutes in between.
My project would have taken my contractor about 4 hours + in labor.
Working Around Your Schedule Makes It Easy To Do
I saved myself time, money, and sanity.
I did not have to make sure the WHOLE downstairs was picked up.
It usually is, but I wouldn’t say I like things out of place, especially with people inbound.
Next, I worked as soon as I woke up so that the next morning, that area could return to normal, and I could start the others.
We picked up dinner, so I did not work in the sink nor chance spattering with water.
Before and After Sealing Granite Countertops
It’s easy and gratifying to see the before and after.
Photos of this did not show the glisten, but it shines and is sealed.
Would I do this again?
Yep, in a heartbeat!
