Materials Needed For A DIY Lacrosse Homecoming Proposal Sign
A large piece of Foam Poster Board (white or if you have a school color that is black or navy, I am sure you can find that as well). You can not use a simple piece of traditional poster board because it is too flimsy to support the lacrosse stick you will be attaching.
Make sure the board you have is either a sign replacement poster board that is thicker or has foam between it. Dollar stores have this poster board it is not hard to find.
A Good Glue Stick. We found that the typical glue stick was not adhesive enough for this particular poster board. We used UHU Stick glue. This glue stick worked very well and set fast without incident.
Mardi Gras beads are your school colors. You will only need a couple of these or you could use a glue gun and frame the entire poster board with them. So you need to decide how many. For this project, only 2 were used.
Printer and printer paper. You won’t be writing this sign, instead, you will use the school colors and produce it online then print and cut.
This leads me to the next item you will need which is Scissors.
One Lacrosse stick. Make sure to check your local Five Below and all the different dollar stores. You are sure to find it on there and most likely under $5.
Zip Ties. These are going to be used to make sure that the lacrosse stick stays fastened to the poster board. While the lacrosse stick you are using is not real, or field legal, it is a token.
The stick still has more weight on it than a typical piece of poster board, which is why opt for the thicker poster board with foam between. Packaging Tape. The tape is going to be used to fasten the beads on the handle of the lacrosse stick on one side.
Do make certain you have packaging tape and not just transparent gift tape.
DIY – What To Do to Create the Lacrosse HoCo Proposal Sign
FONT and COLOR For The LAX HOCO Ask Sign
First, figure out what phrase you are going to use. Once committed to that phrase, go to any photo editor online.
Online photo editors include things programs such as PowerPoint, which allows you to easily manipulate letters and words, or a collage maker.
Options for Font, Color & Images For Lacrosse HoCo Proposal Idea
Then I made a new discovery of a site that offers great options, is easy and fast to use. I wished I would have seen the site before. Going forward I’ve been using this for design. You do want to try it out.
I love DesignCap.Com. If you have not used this site, and are for the first time, you will love it! Also, if you need imagery, the small monthly fee is worth it for that month.
There’s no contract so use it as you need it to get free images to support your sign and you won’t have to search anywhere else. Certainly, I should mention you can use the free version of DesignCap if you have images you just need to tweak or if you want to work with FONTS only.
Use the settings to 11″ x 8″ (for landscape, not portrait). Make certain you first choice inches then load the numbers.
FONT for the NAME – Get The Look
Once you find the online editor you are comfortable with it is time to create the words.
- IN order to give you an idea of letter size and font, to create the name AMELIA, here’s what we used.
- The Font was called ‘Sometime Later’ at 229.
- Then I set it diagonal across the screen to make sure it could be the biggest possible.
- Of course, you want to do the same because your date needs to see the sign is Personalized.
- If you choose a different font, please note the size on the screen will need to be adjusted.
- I’m pretty certain you already know how to change the font size so we will skip that detail as that is the next step.
- Next, make sure to adjust the colors to fit your school’s colors. After all, HOCO is about your school, so use the right colors.
- It’s fast and easy on any of these online photos and word editors.
- Just highlight the letters and change them one by one or change the entire word.
- Do make certain to save that image to your computer, because you will be pulling it up on WORD or GOOGLE DOCS to print it.
What We Used For The Rest Of The Font For the Lacrosse HoCo Proposal Idea
- FONT for the Rest of the wording includes ‘The Thought’ sized at 125 using UKIJ Qolyazmaz TUZ at 125 and’ LACROSSED’ at 350.
- Using 3 separate pieces of paper to break the word down and stretch it out over all the paper framing of 11 x 8 (landscape).
- Next, Adigiana Toybox in a 48. I wanted HOCO to stand out, therefore I used Quintessential at a Font point of 250. ‘Will you go with me’ was the finale on the poster board and therefore, needed to end light and bubbly.
- Using UKIJ Qolyazmaz TUZ at a point size of 88 allowed the font to match the initial font and create a light ending in point texture.
Once you have it all saved to a file, then go to Google Docs, and insert the image.
Stretch it across each piece of paper and print it. It is that easy!
How To Set The Poster Board up For the Lacrosse Homecoming proposal sign
After all the papers were printed, I cut each and placed it along the left-hand side of the board. However, I made certain to start with the focal point, the word ‘LACROSSE’ as it spread diagonally from left to right.
Next after fitting the wording on, I placed the lacrosse stick on. Rather than starting with gluing the words, I affixed the Lacrosse stick first.
I used a turkey fork to achieve perfect holes.
Then I used zip ties to tighten it on the board.
Last, open the Mardi Gras beads up. Then weave the beads through the netting (1 set) and the other around the handle.
As you do this make sure to use the tape so that everything stays in position.
