Scrub-a-dub-dub there’s laundry that needs to go into the washing tub, is that the recurring theme in your home too? Laundry is something we all deal with day in and day out and the bigger the family the bigger the pile of laundry!
Sorting laundry from dark to light piles, and worrying about the blends of all the fibers (cotton to polyester and every blend in between) to inside-outing socks laundry duty is such a task. From stinky little socks to big foot’s collection, we have it all.
Five people leave behind a lot of laundry that needs to be washed, from darks to lights, and cotton to polyester and every blend in between. What you won’t find me doing when I do a load of laundry is touching the hot water button. Do I worry about tossing everything into the washing machine and using COLD? No, I do not because I know the 4 benefits of washing your clothes in cold water and I lavishly live laundry out loud!
4 Benefits Of Washing Your Clothes in Cold Water
When I find a great product, I love to share it so today I am happy to announce that I’m sharing #Tide in my life as part of a Tide sponsored series for Socialstars™. I only share products and tips that I feel are relevant to all of you and I am sure that any parent that has taken a family on vacation will appreciate this find!
The Dress Taught Me Everything (color)
My daughter was about 3 years old and her favorite dress was her ‘party’ dress with lovely colors that she nicknamed, “Lady Marmalade.” The dress was inseparable and laundry days were tough, in fact, I would have to get up ahead of her (and she was an early riser) to launder the dress because she was terrified that ‘miss suds’ (her name for our washser) would eat her up. Oh the woes of parenting.
One morning between preparing my husband’s lunch and trying to pay bills, “Lady Marmalade” inadvertently got tossed into a warm load! ‘Cry me a River’ was the tune singing in my house as her eyes welled up and her tears flowed creating a monsoon of a puddle. When the dress came out, “Lady Marmalade was more like a mushy mess of colors. The once rich hues of red that were cherries were light orange, and the lovely blues were faded to ugly egg-bird blue and let me just tell you how all the other clothes in the wash looked BAD!
#1 COLOR
What I already knew was already true, wash your clothes in cold, and it preserves and protects the dyes, and the fibers won’t fade, their life will be extended.
Can You Say Breakdown & Dryrot
Once upon a time, there were undies that got washed over and over in the same hot/warm water. Want to know what happened to those undies? The elastic in the waistband broke down and was destroyed from the warm water and it dry rotted. A necessary trip to the undergarment aisle was needed far ahead of the normal scheduled ‘holiday’ stop (oh come on, don’t we all give and get undies from our parents for the big holiday in December?
#2 Cold Water & Materials in Garments
So the lesson to be learned here is, unless you want your pants falling down to the ground, don’t wash those undies in warm, wash them in cold and you will get a longer life span out of those favorite pair and they won’t be worn down as fast!
True Or False
Did momma say to always wash stains in hot water? I hope you answered true, but nothing could be further from the reality of lifting a stain.
#3 STAINS
Stains actually set in if they are washed in warm and it does not matter what you treat them with. Don’t lock a stain into the fiber of the clothing with warm water, wash those stains in cold water!
MONEY IS GREEN & SO IS OUR EARTH
Want to save money and do good by Mother Earth? Wash those clothes in cold water and you will love that you will see more green in your hand than in the pocket of the big box store you shop in. The truth of the matter is that when you run a warm load of laundry you are paying to heat the water. Wouldn’t warm water be best saved for those sensuous before bed showers?

Speaking of tossing in, I have the perfect solution to each load that you wash in cold, and care to protect the fabrics while enjoying great cleaning results! Are you ready?
