By no means am I a mixologist. My biggest claim to fame when it comes to mixing drinks is trial and taste!
Today’s apple cider margarita recipe requires 7 no-frills ingredients and delivers a big-on taste.
Sip. Sip. Hooray! Apple Cider Margarita
I will be the first person to tell you, that crafting an apple cider margarita is as simple as pour, mix, drink.
Also, I’d love to welcome all of those disbelievers to crank one of my margaritas out and then you will understand that it does not take hours, or even more than 2 minutes to make one, maybe even less.
Never judge an apple cider margarita by it’s cover
Once someone said in a Facebook comment on my page, “look, this is not a perfect photo, it actually shows us what ours will look like.” (it was a cake recipe)
Was it criticizing my work?
It could have been, but, I am a self-proclaimed chef, worked in the industry, learned skills from 2 grammas (one off the boat and one a generation removed), and how it turns out is how I show you.
Fake doesn’t live in my kitchen and I want you to have the ‘real-real idea and not be intimidated. Realistic-looking is inviting, it means yours can look better, and then you’ll want to try it right?
So, I just took the statement as a compliment, which leads me to the following of what you won’t find on my Fall margaritas recipe.
What you won’t find on my apple cider margaritas.
When you Google apple cider margaritas (like I did) just to see photos of what they might look like, you will be awe-stricken and probably intimidated!
Wake up sunshine, smell the roses, those are staged photos, and guess what, yours doesn’t have to look beautiful to taste good and I will show you that shortly!
I’m all about the reality of a busy life, craving a fabulous new cocktail and sharing how to make a great apple cider margarita that tastes amazing and has no frills attached.
Meaning, you can add warm caramel to your rim, or fresh slices of apple, or salt, or caramel and graham cracker, but all that does is change the look of the drink, it does not enhance what combination is in the glass.
Tweak. Taste. Create a no-nonsense Fall cocktail
First, when we make these we generally are around the firepit.
Second, if you know about a firepit you know it can throw ash, so cups have to be closed. Then you get where I am going with this right?
Beverages require a closed container or you will get fire floaters, lol!
Therefore, I craft a no-nonsense Fall cocktail with simple ingredients that provide a big flavor.
Well, then you know why I don’t rim my drinks. But if we are being totally honest, even when we are in the house celebrating a holiday, I don’t rim the glass either.
Rim The Apple Cider Margarita
You’ll love the simplicity and possibilities of this drink!
Go ahead, read the recipe, tweak these apple cider margaritas to your liking.
Optional ways to rim your apple cider margarita:
- adding a caramel rim with some graham cracker crumble
- cinnamon and sugar-rimmed glasses
- apple slices on rim or floating in the glass
- add a skwere or apple chunk, orange chunk and a sugared cranberry
- place a piece of orange in the apple cider margarita
- serve in holiday mugs
As you can see the simplicity of this recipe for an apple cider margarita allows you a lot of options, so this is your springboard to creativity if you want to expand upon it!
The alcohol in apple cider margaritas
The magic of this recipe is keeping the required bar ingredients easy and interchangeable.
To that point there is only one tequila I use when mixing apple cider, let me explain below (an easy why explanation).
Plus, I love that if you prefer to add in different alcohol you can make this your own no-nonsense Fall cocktail.
What’s worse than reading a recipe and craving it, then realizing you don’t have the right alcohol in-house nor do your friends that live close by!
I’ve used an orange-flavored liquor, a tequila, some flavored syrups, and a cider.
The Tequila
For my apple cider recipes that require tequila (I have a few), I use el Jimador Tequila Reposado.
Its base is 100% blue agave, and aged for 2 months.
But the reason for this choice is the resulting taste, soft notes of caramel and vanilla, and there within is the number one reason for this choice of a modestly priced tequila.
Vanilla and caramel bring out the taste of the cider and combine well, and that is the only tequila brand I will share that you should certainly be using for this recipe.
An optional alcohol choice for apple cider margaritas
One night, I did not really look at the bottle grabbed, as I saw orange, and ran.
Well, what happened next tuaght me that this flavor change was more than acceptable when making an apple cider margarita.
I had grabbed 99 Peach liqueur and in the end, it all turned out fine.
There was a bit of sweeter tilt, but the apple cider margaritas were actually a little more amped with alcohol content as ’99’ brand definitely has a high proof 99% alcohol content!
Can I get olé?
Grab that Party in a Bottle
Now, since I shared that I will tell you that if you love a nice alcoholic content to your margaritas then when you make apple cider margaritas they have an amazing 99 Oranges you will want to try.
Plus, I used a cinnamon whisky and I could have used the 99 Cinnamon, so you can see this recipe has so many endless options and I am just sharing my faves.
Remember, you can use basic cinnamon (I don’t like that in a drink) or you can add Fireball Whisky (which of course I did!).
Just so you know, if I am making a margarita I go ALL IN or I don’t bother.
However, my recipes allow you to easily adjust your recipe to your tastes, meaning more or less alcohol, and any other add-ins.
Fruit In An Apple Cider Margarita ~ The best method IMO
Think back to all those frat parties you might have visited.
Do you remember soaked alcohol fruit? I love it!
Now, if you are a sangria person, you know alcohol soaked in fruit is totally the bomb, and literally a bomb of alcohol in your mouth, lol.
For those that want an apple cider margarita with all the flavors of FALL in it, soak your apples for an hour or 2 before adding to the apple cider margaritas you will be serving.
You can soak them in a cinnamon-flavored liqueur so that you have that cinnamon thing going on in your glass.
Tips For Apple Cider Margaritas.
Mason jars are great for serving these.
Also, if you can find the mason jars with lids and straws even better.
Don’t water down with too much ice. Using bigger ice cubes is better than small, but use what you have, we do!
A cinnamon stick is great to use in the mason jar or in the traditional margarita glasses you can use it to garnish and tack on an apple slice.
Remember you can rim the drink if you want more tastes, like caramel, salt, or caramel and graham crackers smashed.
