Kitchen Utensils Needed To Make A Christmas Caprese Wreath
- A large platter (for that wow-worthy presentation).
- A spoon or drizzle bottle for the balsamic glaze.
- A small bowl (if you’re serving the glaze on the side).
- A sharp knife (for any last-minute adjustments).
Ingredients For The Christmas Caprese Wreath
- a spreadable cheese
- Cherry tomatoes
- Fresh basil leaves
- Fresh mozzarella balls
- Balsamic glaze
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Optional garnishes: pine nuts, small sprigs of rosemary
Assembling Your Christmas Caprese Wreath
- A Circle Spread Base: To keep everything stable, we suggest a wreath smear cheese base. (see the recipe card at the end of the post)
- Laying the Basil Foundation: Begin by delicately placing basil leaves around the rim of a large, flat serving platter. This will form the green, leafy base of your wreath.
- Tomato and Cheese Arrangement: On top of this basil bed, alternate cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls in a circular pattern. The aim is to create a harmonious blend of the red from the tomatoes and the white of the cheese, emulating the festive colors of the season.
- Enhancing the Wreath Effect: To give your wreath a fuller and more authentic look, gently insert additional basil leaves at varying angles around the circle. These should stick out slightly over the edge of the platter, mimicking the natural irregularity of a real wreath.
- Other Garnish: To add more green you can use rosemary because it looks like a Christmas tree and it will add to the look of your Christmas Caprese wreath, just don’t overdo it or the flavor transfer will occur.
- Finishing Touches Before Serving: If prepping ahead, add the final seasonings and olive oil drizzle or balsamic drizzle just before serving to maintain freshness and vibrant flavors.
Tips For How to Style The Christmas Caprese Wreath
You can see in the image below, that we hosted a couple’s party, and rather than the traditional Christmas Caprese wreath, we used a mix of Campari tomatoes and cherry tomatoes (for couples who wanted to split plates = more romantic). We also used a mix of a mix of Bocconcini and Ciliegine. Once we even used burrata (but that was messy, so we don’t suggest it)
- Multicolored Tomatoes: For an extra pop of color, mix in some yellow or orange cherry tomatoes.
- Bread in the Middle: Place chunks of crusty bread in the center of the wreath for guests to scoop up their Caprese bites.
- Balsamic Glaze in a Bowl: Serve the balsamic glaze in a small bowl in the center, so guests can drizzle to their liking.
- Festive Touches: Scatter some edible gold or silver leaf for a luxurious feel, or add a few edible flowers for a touch of elegance.
- Green Spices: Remember a pop of dried festive spices is fabulous to sprinkle on top of your Christmas Caprese Wreath like oregano, basil, etc.
- Use VINED Tomatoes: Often tomatoes will have vining on them, keep a set of these and use them on the top layer to create the vining effect. It visually builds a Christmas wreath effect
Take a look at the difference between a fresh mozzarella and tomato wreath both with and without using vined tomatoes.
