You know after driving through the lower part of a tornado cloud and really letting it sink in, my next thought in life was how I could have avoided this mishap. Trembling from fear, and worrying about the outcomes that could have been from the amount of wind that rocked our car and the destruction around us within feet on either side, I decided to get ahead of any horrible weather. There are ways to gain specific area messaging so that you will always know what weather is about to happen and I was determined to know if there is bad weather coming our way ever again. This is my story of lavishly living life out loud and learning if there is bad weather coming our way.
I have to tell you that after we got out of that tornado, and got home and heard that it was what it was, I counted my lucky stars that we had only been in the bottom of the cloud and that we came out unscathed. With every storm that passes through our area my kids are on high alert and worried that a Tornado is going to come around again. I am not going to live like this, worrying about a tornado or what thunderstorm is going to take a tree down that will kill electrical in our house. We have had so much happen in the last few years due to weather, that it is time to step up and learn what is coming.
AcuRite offers a Weather Alert Radio that has the ability to lock into your local area and get you the alerts form the National Weather Service so that you can know what is coming from Amber Alerts to Tornado and Hurricane Warnings. There is no monthly subscription costs and you can turn it on anytime and get the information.
We went to the website and grabbed our S.A.M.E. code for our area, placed it into the handset and now we get the local weather. While we were away on vacation we took it with us as well, as being on a beach is always the welcome opportunity for a storm. We did not turn the television on, rather we turned on the Weather Alert Radio and heard what would be happening over the day and went on with our lives.
If an when there is an advisory in the area, the Weather Alert Radio lights up to indicate an advisory or warning. The beauty of this device is that it is line powered with electric OR it can be Battery Operated(storm and power out!).
All you do is open it up, and set it up with your local weather channel and all the local weather is forecast right into the device. You can control the volume and there is a backlit display. I have to tell you that if we had listened to this or had this device pre-tornado in Cranberry Township, we would NEVER Have gone to church that evening and then we would never have lived through what we did. That’s my story of lavishly living with the knowledge of know if and when there is bad weather coming.
