Parties are what make life’s best memories. I love a good party, don’t you?
Whether we are attending a party or hosting it, I have a signature appetizer I craft each time.
The Caprese Tortellini Skewers were inspired by one of our trips to Italy.
My memories of that trip truly live on through this simple appetizer.
For those who love fresh mozzarella, you will love this palate-pleasing combination on a skewer.
In fact, this easy to create appetizer is perfect for those who are not fans of meat.
On one skewer you will find a perfectly-portioned appetizer to enjoy, bite by bite.
Those who see the platter of simply delicious Caprese tortellini skewers arrive will comment on how masterfully executed they look.
What’s best, is making a platter of skewed Caprese tortellini appetizers takes minutes, not hours.
Yet, the platter of appetizers is stunning in both color and presentation.
Simply delicious Caprese tortellini skewers are a year-round appetizer, it truly is an all-season fave in Casa Vento.

Consider all of the holidays we celebrate year-round. There is a lot, right?
What if you had just ONE signature tote-along dish you could make? It’s the one you have become known for.
Let’s call it your most requested hit list recipe, lol. You haven’t lived until you have ONE credible recipe like that.
Why is a Caprese Tortellini Appetizer always party-perfect?
Did you guess that the first reason this appetizer works well year-round is due to its base ingredients?
There’s nothing that is not an ‘in-season’ ingredient. In fact, these are year-round ingredients change year-round with offerings.
Caprese Love
As a HUGE fan of this food combination, you know that I have a hard time keeping my writing on the subject contrite.
I’ve written articles on Caprese salads, a Shrimp Caprese sandwich, Tortellini Caprese Salad, Due Formaggi Caprese Salad, and even Caprese Salad Tips!
Suffice it to say, I’m a Caprese-lovin’ kind of gal.
We were in Rome, walking through the streets, famished. Not wanting a huge meal, instead of a snack, we stopped at little trattoria.
While all the food looked yummy, this dish stole the show.
Once seated, we saw a few of these Caprese Tortellini Skewers being served and decided that was the choice.
I highly suggest a glass of wine as a side, ha!
Simply Delicious Caprese Tortellini Skewers – The Truth In Taste
Being brutally honest, as I always am, I have to say the truth in taste is not from the tortellini.
You could use any tortellini and it is NOT the game-changer.
However, the tomatoes and the mozzarella are the ones that bring this appetizer to the table (pun intended!)
Tomatoes – Oh My Popping Fresh In My Mouth
If you have never had a Flavor Bomb Tomato, I am sorry for you.
Please correct that immediately.
I got ours at Sam’s Club.
There are a lot of great fruits and veggies to be tried at this large warehouse club.
The price on these was appealing, but it was the nice exterior skin, against the pop of FLAVOR that explodes in the mouth.
Oh-My-Foodgasm. I am nuts for fruits and veggies and I own every bite of that.
Tomatoes can make or break a Caprese salad.
Don’t buy any that are squashy on the exterior.
You can use tri-colored tomatoes if you like, as long as they are FIRM On the skin.
Cherry tomatoes are best during the summer.
Sun Gold cherry tomatoes will also make a mouth happy if you can find them.
Use Medley Tomatoes too, they look so pretty with all the different color options.
Don’t overlook the Grape Tomatoes either, these are often a great choice.
Cocktail tomatoes are TOO large, don’t go there.
Now that we know what tomato to use, let’s keep on shopping!
Fresh Mozzarella Information
Fresh mozzarella balls are in most dairy sections in food retailers.
What you choose is up to you.
I alternate between oil and water.
In oil with herbs is how I prepared today’s appetizer.
Why?
I did not want to dress it with Balsamic and this was a shortcut to flavor.
Fresh mozzarella pearls are simply perfect for smaller bites.
Just make sure to use a smaller tomato as well.
Marinated mozzarella salads are what I refer to as in oil with herbs.
Generally, I will drain them in a colander and use them.
Marinated mozzarella salads generally offer a well-sized fresh mozzarella piece, not as large as a golf ball, but hardly small as a pearl.
Consider how wide you have to open your mouth before buying big balls, lol.
Also, keep in mind, this is an appetizer, not a meal.
To Keep It Party Perfect in Any Season Create Simply Delicious Caprese Tortellini Skewers
My Caprese skewers never look the same.
Why?
I change them up always.
How?
That is so easy.
Remember when I said that tortellini don’t count much for changing the taste? They don’t.
However, they do count when it comes to color.
You can find tortellini in so many different colors that your seasons match the appetizer.
We use red, white, and blue during the summer holidays, whereas we use a deep purple, white and red during Christmas.
Othertimes we use orange and yellow (for the Fall) and Pink(yeppers!) for the spring.
The possibilities are endless.
No Meat on Caprese Tortellini Skewers – Vegetarians Count Too!
Also, I use straight cheese flavor, not meat, no fish, nothing funky. Why?
These are appetizers.
You want the ‘masses’ to snack on them, not just Cousin Joe who loves meat and cheese combinations.
I make these because I am so often let out of the food noshing at parties.
My family treats me like Vegetarianism is the plague.
SO, I make these and take them along to counter all the meat-crap they serve and to rebuttal their ‘we don’t know what to serve a vegetarian!’
Take care of everyone at the party, not just those that love meat and fish.
Keep the appetizer more basic and eye-pleasing it will win all the time.
