While spending time poolside and at the bars, I uncovered what I believe are the top 10 Puerto Vallarta cocktails that are sip-worthy for anyone taking a vacation here!
Sip-Worthy Top 10 Puerto Vallarta Cocktails IMO
In my opinion, Puerto Vallarta crushes the adult beverage scene, especially poolside, which is where I discovered these fabulous beverages.
Sip-worthy PV Cocktails are the kind of adult beverages that are not gender-biased.
Sitting poolside from 12 Noon on, I sipped on many colorful and flavorful cocktails as did many people around me at the pools and bars at our resort.
The funny thing was, we were all bantering about how good the drinks were.
Don’t forget the standard rule of cocktail-sipping: the more you drink the better they taste (lol!)!
How Did I Choose My Top 10 Puerto Vallarta cocktails?
No worries, I’ve researched this very hard for you.
In order to figure out which drinks would make my top 10 Puerto Vallarta cocktails list, I sipped my way through multiple different cocktails, to arrive at what I truly believe are very sip-worthy PV cocktails.
Exactly how do you figure out which are sip-worthy PV cocktails?
I used the following criterium to arrive at my top 10 Puerto Vallarta Cocktails List:
- The chill level of the drink, in other words was it over slushy, or under-slushy, or was it on the rocks.
- Flavor of the drink itself. Did the drink OOZE alcohol flavor or was it well-balanced?
- Most popular drinks were sampled and voted ‘off the island’ by speaking with those consituents that had them in their hand and then when they summoned our pool bar hop did not bother to repeat the selection.
- Spice or no spice, becaseu of course we want to find at least one local flavour drink with a bit of spice to it right?
- Appearance in color, followed by taste
- Last but not least, I did dig deeper and attempt to see how many you had to drink to catch a bit of a buzz. Translated nicely, trying to see if the mixologist actually put any alcohol in it or if you were just drinking fun color kid juice mixes an tons of sugar.
- Anything that made my list, also did not leave me with a headache later in the day or the next day, so making sure ‘top shelf’ was used in these drinks.
Adults Beverages Poolside And Barside in PV Via Sampling
Poolside in Puerto Vallarta is the perfect way to spend your afternoons. I sure did!
Sitting poolside allowed me to see a lot of colorful and unusual-looking drinks being served!
Couples and friends sitting poolside were tasting each other’s beverages and ordering beverages for others they had met at the resort as well!
In addition to tasting, people were chatting poolside about their drinks.
Lots of people were talking to each other, not just couples or friends but vacationers to vacationers.
You know I am a gabby kind of gal so I joined right on in and before I knew it, drinks were flying to my seat!
The fun of vacation is talking to strangers, making new friends, and learning new beverages.
Consequently, and to date, I have never been at a resort where so many people were not only friendly but would order a drink for you and then tip the server on your behalf.
Naturally, it could have been the alcohol content in the drinks that made everyone so warm and friendly or it could just be the fact, that once you strike upon sip-worthy PV cocktails you want to make sure everyone else gets to enjoy them too!

There are so many colorful beverages, fruity beverages, cervezas, and more your head may spin, but let’s narrow the playing field, or the sipping field, shall we?
Naturally, you will find the oldies but goodies like Pina Coladas, and basic daiquiris.
But come on, get out of the ‘safe zone’ you used a passport to fly, now bust out your cocktail-loving, wannabe wild side and taste test bold, delicious, and as spirited frosty Puerto Vallarta adult beverages!

Superhero Powers Lead You To Discover 4 Versions of One Slushie Superman Drink!
I’ll say this straight up, once you figure out which mixologist creates which version of the Slushie Superman drink you like, stick with them!
When you sit at a different section of your pools at resorts, different servers go to different bars, so you want to find your favorite or walk yourself to the bar your original drink was coming from and get that Superman version YOU fell in love with!
That is just a general poolside bar rule at a resort with multiple bars, multiple servers, and pools.
Superman Version 1
It must be remembered that to drinking any of these 4 versions of Superman, you will have to be a superman or woman to drink and survive.
Yep, I said FOUR versions, it is something we learned as we were at our resort.
I gotta say, I think the more color, the more alcohol.
Also, to be noted, as patrons ordered one after the other, the color seemed to lighten each time.
Which is compelling evidence to lead me to believe that your servers may be watching how much you are drinking and helping you not overdrink?
Really, I could be wrong, but, it is my theory.
Superman is Blue Curacao, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Daiquiri and I have to say quite a little ass-kicker, so be forewarned.
The most compelling evidence that this drink is strong, is the fact that not only were the ladies sipping on this one, but many guys were too.
Generally, when we are on islands, at resorts, guys are with hard stuff or beer. Not here.
Superman Versions 2, 3, & 4. Sip, Sip, Hooray!
If you asked for Superman with 3 Colores, it often came as a variation, and sometimes the 3rd color was just mixed in, take a look.
All that matters is that it tasted good from top to bottom, Olè!
Let’s just say there are 4 versions of this drink!
So I wonder who was drinking the mixologist or me?
The one you see in the man’s hand above is what the drinks started out looking like.
However, as the day went on, the other versions seemed to lighten up?
The first version is in this man’s hand, I simply asked him what was in his glass and that is where it all started!
Superman Version 2
Where’s the white?
Did they miss a layer?
Is it the same bartender? As a matter of fact, it was the same person.
Therefore go back and reference what I mentioned about ‘lightening up’ as you order the same drink from the same server.
Tip No. 3 – Sometimes it is better to get out of your seat, and bypass your server.
Head right to the bar and order. You will get a drink that looks just like the first one, when you cut out the middleman, lol.
How did I learn that?
Someone I was sitting near, told me to go try it. To alternate your order from the server with a trip to the bar.
They were definitely on to something!
Superman Version 3
The color is different, but it is Superman Version 3.
It tasted a lot the same, but seemed to be missing the white layer, and did it really have the same ingredients?
Who knows?
Who cares, it was Superman in a glass!
Slurp, sip, repeat and enjoy the sun and pool.
Superman Version 4
Here is the 4th version.
Now can you see how different it is?
I bet if it were really a Superman Drink, he’s been exposed to Kryptonite and losing power.
Less alcohol ahead!
Light on EVERYTHING and it is days’ end.
Yes, there are 3 layers but, they are watered down, trust me on this one.
We were late to the pool that day, and this was actually my first drink?
Interesting how different it was, but it tasted just like the others, but lighter.
Would you want to taste Donkey Sperm in Puerto Vallarta?
Sorry, we drank this one before we got to photograph it, but it was delicious.
It is a drink called Donkey Sperm, not on the menu.
Donkey sperm was quite tasty, as gross as the name is, and it was gone before I could blink.
The cocktail was made of a sour mix, malibu coconut rum, and soda and it oozed over the side of the glass.
These were served in tall glasses.
Is This the Hidden Top 10 Drink Menu To Taste in Puerto Vallarta?
I mean, I guess this could be the hidden menu of Margaritas.
Hidden in plain sight if you have had too many drinks already.
There are over 10 margaritas to try. I simply tried 2.
Mango Margaritas
Mango Margaritas packed a little kick of ‘heat’ because they are rimmed with a few pepper flakes.
After a few of these, you won’t feel the heat on your lips anymore.
The mango margarita is crafted with orange liqueur, lime juice, and mango syrup.
Fruity, fun, peppery, and fabulous to sip.
This is Juan making mine at La Cabana in the Buenaventura Grand Hotel.
He was the ladies ‘choice’ bartender, in case you all want to know that.
There were ladies that would ONLY go to the bar to get their drinks, lol!
Sip Sip Hooray for a Melon Daiquiri Today!
Traditionally, not a fan of rum, I found this slush-like melon daiquiri pretty delish.
Hints of fresh-squeezed lime, orange juice, and the taste of rum flirted with my tastebuds.
I would definitely recommend it for those who like rum, just not straight up.
Refreshing, sip-worthy, and truly one of the top adult beverages making appearances at many lounge chairs.
Margarita on the Rocks
When is a margarita not good? The answer is quite simple.
A Margarita is not good when one is NOT in your hands. Ha!
Really you did not think I would ever complain about a margarita did you?
One of my all-time fave sipping drinks and they never disappoint.
Let’s face facts, Mexico is the reason for the Margarita.
Where better to enjoy this lovely libation than poolside?
On the rocks, not on the rocks, salted, not salted, or even with a tequila shot on the side, Olè!
For those of you looking at the pics of these, the top one is on the rocks and at a cool eatery on the Malecon, top floor.
Seek out the Bar Oceana Restaurante.
Service is beyond slow, so getting more than one was next to impossible, but at least the 1 and only served was so worth it!
Conversely, the version in my hand below is the more slushie-like version both salted!⇓⇓⇓⇓
Slushie Lushie Salt-Rimmed Margarita. Bottoms Up!
After all, you came to Mexico, drink that slushie margarita that is salt-rimmed.
This is one, that I always prefer ON The Rocks, but, slushie rhymes with lushie and sometimes vacay is about that, lol!
Strawberry Daiquiri
You saw strawberry daiquiri’s being made at the very beginning of my post.
Do you remember seeing it?
These were wicked delicious and perfectly blended each time.
I don’t think I had one the entire time that was not the same consistency.
Each was not too thick, not too much alcohol just a nice tasty drink!
I think the photo says it all.
This Drink Will Keep You Seated
Known as either a Mayan Sacrifice or Mayan Ruin it will definitely keep you seated!
Whichever name you choose you will either be a sacrifice to the chair you are in or ruined for the rest of the day.
If you are looking for a drink that is everything and then some, order it!
My daughter and I keep going back and forth as to the proper name and the contents.
Kallie says it is was the Mayan Sacrifice, I say the Mayan Ruins.
Why split hairs, just sip, drink, repeat.
Of course, there is another way to solve this back-and-forth over a name.
We just need to head back down to Puerto Vallarta to find out what the name is and have another!
The beverage was fit for the gods and served to the pool goddesses.
Does this little hand-held chalice pack an alcohol punch.
Trust me on this: you will be the only thing ruined after a few of these, sweet, tart, and oh so good!
Cap the Night Off With A Smooth Amaretto On The Rocks
They used to call this a nightcap I think.
An after-dinner drink?
Caught off-guard when our server offered us this beverage, I hesitated.
Then I heard the word ‘Amaretto’ and I was all-in.
On the rocks, with a cherry, and perfection in every way.
After dinner drinks are still a thing, it is usually reserved for upscale restaurants, which we were in.
This was really refreshing after a meal, a walk, and then a bit of time together.
A little splash of cherry juice made it the perfect ending to a perfect day!
Sure You Can Grab Your Cervezas But Pony Up To Sip-Worthy PV Cocktails
Oh, look at that girl, is she really excited over a beer? I mean a Cerveza.
She just had gotten off the plane after hours upon hours of travel.
What tastes better than anything once off a plane? A Cerveza!
Hey, lady don’t forget your Cerveza’s and why would you, check out what was being served! Corona served here!
But, there are a lot of great frosty Puerto Vallarta adult beverages, so ching, ching to the beer and then move over to the sip-worthy PV cocktails that you don’t want to miss.

Don’t Forget Your Shots of Tequila Lady!
“Hey Lady, you need a little Tequila!”
I think if I heard that shouted at me once, I heard it 50x as we sauntered towards the Malecon.
While it never got old, don’t forget to add a shot of Tequila between your orders, that’s what we did, and had a great time with everyone else poolside!
Snickering every time they said it, we did eventually go to a tasting while we were out and about.
Plus, we went to 2 tequila plants to savor the flavor just for the sake of sipping and taste-testing!
Tequila. Tequila shots were on the side with beverages, at dinner tables, around the pool, and up and down the Malecon!
There’s also a general allowance for carrying some back to the USA.
Learn how much you are allowed to bring home.
Fill up your suitcases and bring a little Puerto Vallarta home we did!
I also found a personal favorite tequila that tasted like coffee!

Eyeballs and Banter Go The Long Mile
The way I learned what was good, was talking and watching.
Talking to the poolside servers was another great way to learn.
When I saw a drink go by to different people in different parts of the pool, multiple times, I knew it was a winner.
Color may be a big draw, and I used it and it never let me down!
Our servers offered a few fun suggestions as well so ask your poolside servers and mixologist!
What you need to know is what one mixologist creates the other might make it just a little differently.
1 Very Good Suggestion
After attempting to sequester at least 1 good glass of Chianti or Merlot, I will tell you based on personal experience forego the crappy wine.
It’s water at best and it will not come close to satiating your thirst for a great glass of wine!
I attempted to get a great glass of wine at least 5x on the trip and failed with each attempt so based on this I will suggest skipping the WINE!
Stick with margaritas, tequila, beer, and mixed drinks because the wine is NOT the scene here!
For The Best Beverage Service Poolside in Puerto Vallarta
Always tip your server at the first and 3rd drinks. Service will be almost on autopilot from there.
You do this EVEN if you are not closing out your bill.
Sometimes staff changes in between your drinks so make sure to do this before your server is gone!

Do know what alcohols, liquor, or spirits you don’t like, and which you do.
If in doubt as for a sample of the alcohol which can be done through a shot!
We’ve all got that ONE that we never want to see again, right?
No need to get ill while sipping!
Don’t be afraid to share your preferences with the Mixologist and if they are behind the bar, they will know what to create for you!
Just as a point of reference, mixing alcohol and beer is generally not what makes you ill.
Instead, it is the amount you consume, not the mix you consume.
