SHRIMP CAPRESE SANDWICH
I am always looking for foods that look great as part of a party platter, and that are lovingly made in no time. Often I look for meatless meals, that provide a great taste and provide a unique flavor experience.
The shrimp Caprese sandwich is one of my family’s all-time favorites and one of mine! Caprese salad gets a new partner and there is just no way to resist the taste. In fact, this sandwich transforms the everyday into a work of art.
You will have to make it to see how easy it is to create, and you will have to taste it to believe how delicious it is. The mystifying part of this sandwich is that is so simple to create that it takes seconds to create. Lavishly live food out loud and get the ingredients that will have you creating like an artisan. Who’s ready to create the shrimp Caprese sandwich?
The Background On The Sandwich
Caprese salad is that my family loves. The simple ingredients mixed together just please even the most finicky gourmet. I believe that cooking should deliver big, taste great, and each item should be so simple to create. What sucks the fun out of food preparation and cooking is often too many ingredients, and too much time invested in basic eats. Simple, lavish and delicious is how I roll and today’s recipe surely could be a food prepared for the gods!
RECIPE
1 Small Roma Tomato sliced thin
1 Tbsp Balsamic dressing
2 Tsp Olive Oil
3 Large Basil Leaves
1 Fresh Sandwich Bun
6 Cooked Shrimp (tail off)
2 Small Balls of Fresh Mozzarella sliced in 1/2
Dusting of Fresh Ground Pepper & Mediterranean sea salt
METHOD
Cut bun in 1/2

Place shrimp on one side of the bun.
Place Basil On opposite side of the bun.
Layer with Roma Tomato Slices
Drizzle Basil & Olive Oil mixture across tomato and shrimp
Dust with Sea salt and pepper
Serve.
Cook’s Tips
Roma tomatoes are perfection with Caprese salads because they are pretty darn close to the size of the fresh mozzarella when cut.
Try to find fresh mozzarella that offers ‘slice’ marks so it is easier to get those slices perfect.
Good Caprese salads are not about THICK cheese, rather evenly sliced cheese that meets the tomato thickness.
A riper tomato can mean a tomato that is too soft to be enjoyed.
I also look for a tad firmer tomato that is on its way to ripe but is NOT there yet.
Slice the tomato in uniform slices.
Fresh basil from a basil plant is simply awesome, do not cut the leaves, instead allow them to remain whole and if you rinse them, dry them.
Wipe the basil leaf with a damp paper towel to cleanse rather than rinse.
Balsamic is good, just not in large amounts.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil should always be used in light amounts, but don’t use light EVOO.
Pepper should be fresh ground & Mediterranean coarse ground just lets the taste sail!
