Biking on Vacation
Bicycling is one of my favorite ways to visit cities that are bike-friendly and have many beaches, and I could not pass up the chance to discover Anna Maria island biking. It’s one of the best ways for me to really see and experience areas and on Anna Maria Island (AMI) it is especially true.
Biking allows me to discover and uncover those areas that might otherwise go unseen because you just can’t see a place if you can’t stop and walk around and driving is too complicated in some areas.

Biking on Anna Maria Island (AMI) is a true experience that allows you to stop and enjoy as much or as little as you prefer, unlike driving a car. You can take in the island’s charm and beauty one pedal at a time, which is what I love to do. As someone who has pedaled through its quaint streets and scenic paths, let me take you on a journey through my eyes.
AMI offers a really; laid-back vibe and stunning natural scenery, which will encourage you to pedal further and further (at least that is what we did)
Picture this: the gentle breeze caressing your face as you glide along the coastline, the sound of seagulls echoing in the distance, and the sight of palm trees swaying in rhythm with your pedal strokes.
One of the things that make biking on AMI so enjoyable is its bike-friendly infrastructure. You are going to see solo riders, cyclists, and families out biking because it is a bike-friendly area. This isn’t about trails but about moving throughout the area and seeing what you would otherwise miss (unless you are walking which is wonderful too!)

And let’s not forget about the sense of freedom that comes with biking. Unlike being confined in a car, biking allows you to fully immerse yourself in your surroundings, taking in every sight, sound, and scent that AMI has to offer. From scenic coasts and beaches to hidden gems waiting to be uncovered, AMI has it all – and it’s best experienced on two wheels.

Tips to enjoy 7 miles of easy pedaling
Anna Maria Island celebrates the beach, and it is a thriving area. For families, the AMI barrier island is an excellent choice with so much to do and see, yet you could do nothing more than pedal a bit and visit the beach and still have a great time.
- What that means is the best time to bike is in the early morning before everyone gets up and gets moving.
- You can bike later at night to the sunset, make sure you have bike headlights on the bike!
- Ride with traffic not against it.
- When riding on the non-biking paths, use proper hand signals with traffic.
- Do use designated biking paths to stay safe!
- Helmets are suggested not required.
- Never ride your bike on a beach as it is not part of the 7 miles of easy pedaling and it is not something you are allowed to do on AMI.
- Rent the bike for the trip, and make sure you have parking available to you at your rental.
- Using a lock is a good idea for any item you rent.
