Are you considering taking a cruise? Cruise to savor the journey.
Do it, but cruise to savor the journey and enjoy the cruise; extend your cruise by booking a ten-day cruise instead of a 7-day cruise to really settle in and embrace the journey to savor while cruising you might otherwise not experience.
As you know, there are all lengths of cruises, from 3-day cruises to 14-day to year-long voyages, so take a chance and change up your cruise trip; you won’t be disappointed.
Even if you take a longer cruise at least once, you can mark it off your bucket list, and chances are you will be hooked.
Don’t be harried by seven days, which ends up being far too short, unwind, relax, unpack, and let your stateroom be your best friend.
We took our time and sailed, taking a Holland America Line cruise to savor the journey travel, and we want you to do the same!
While you are changing things, try a different brand of cruise ship, that’s what we did, and we were pleasantly surprised!
*We sailed as guests of Holland America, and all opinions and images are my own based on my personal cruise experience with HAL Cruises.

Why Cruise To Savor The Journey
What does taking a cruise mean? It means you are about to embark on a journey where you can experience more in one trip than on most.
Savor the journey meaning:
- Do more
- Relax more
- Dine More
What is a cruise journey? It is a cruise that is long enough to allow you to experience more than a 7-day trip, where you get to visit more ports and experience more culture while enjoying your ship and its amenities!
7 Ways To Make Cruising a Journey To Savor
Find the perfect vacation with HAL (Holland America Line) Cruises and journey while you cruise because you can stay longer, see more, and do more.
What you should feel like shouting to the world if you use the ways to make cruising a journey to savor:
“Our 10-day cruise was exactly what we needed to rejuvenate, recollect and re-energize while enjoying each other’s company, our family and making new friends.
We couldn’t believe how attentive and caring our staff was; from our servers to our room hosts, it was all premium care. As an unexpected bonus, we saw more shows than we expected, and they didn’t conflict with the comedy shows we loved as well. After the shows, it was off to the bars, no driving required, and never being far away from our room!
Undoubtedly we would recommend a luxurious and restful 10-day cruise like ours to anyone seeing a stress-free vacation! Holland America has it, so capture it by booking!” Dana XO
#1 Don’t Book A Budget Fun Cruise
First, don’t book a Carnival Cruise unless you are ready to party and don’t require anything upscale because it’s geared for families who want a cruise vacation and are on a budget. It’s no-frills but FUN, not what we were looking for in a 10-day cruise itinerary.
While you will get a few ports of call, the ports are never too varied (eastern Caribbean, western Caribbean), and the pool areas are very busy due to the fun-ship activities that seem to center around the pool zones.
Instead, consider HAL Cruises (Holland America), which has fabulous cruise itineraries in some of the less frequented stops and is great for couples and the over-55 crowd.
Why Might You Consider Carnival Cruise Lines?
If this is your first cruise experience, consider one of their 7-day cruises to get your feet wet before investing in a nicer cruise.
Carnival is good for those traveling with family and kids but not nearly as fun as a Disney cruise.
#2 Book 10-Day Cruises, Not 7-Day Cruises
Simply put, the more days on a ship, the better.
You unpack one time, and then you explore, adventure, eat, roam, and repeat!
Typically, you will visit up to 6 ports on a 10-day cruise (depending on which cruise you choose), whereas, on 7-day cruises, your max ports are generally 3-4.
See more, experience more, journey while you cruise, and enjoy more.
You can see more of the world and experience a more enriching and relaxed experience on a 10-day cruise.
#3 Enjoy Your Ship
Half the fun of a cruise is getting to know the ship you are on very well.
Walking the ship’s decks, by day, then by night, is a fun experience and one you can do more often if you stay longer.
Plus, you’ll want to plan to have a drink on a few different decks and at the different bars onboard.
Spend time at the pool. It was not over-populated anytime we went.
Experience the nighttime nostalgia of a cruise that ships are known for.
#4 Enjoy the Cruise Amenities And Activities
Another reason to cruise for 10 days is that you can take advantage of the ship’s amenities and facilities for a longer period.
Holland America cruise ships have a wide range of activities, entertainment, and dining options, and on a 10-day cruise, you will have more time to enjoy all the ship has to offer.
You can also use the extra time to relax and unwind and enjoy the slower pace of life on a cruise ship.
Also, look for popcorn, movies, dance classes, cooking demonstrations, casino nights, and live shows; there is something for everyone to enjoy.
#5 Take Advantage Of Your Ships’ Day-To-Day Itinerary
Holland America offers wonderful shore excursions and activities at each port of call and some fabulous AM-PM stays at the port.
Whether you want to explore the local culture and cuisine or relax on the beach, there is sure to be an excursion that is perfect for you.
Book an excursion that resonates with what you most want to see, and if you have time when you return from your excursion, spend time in port shopping, so you feel as though you thoroughly experienced the local area, which truly leaves a calming feeling within.
#6 Cruising Allows You To Make New Friends
You might not have considered that a cruise to savor the journey on the right cruise line (Holland America) allows you to mingle with others who feel a 10-day cruise is a great choice.
You already have that in common, now meet some new people from all over the world, at the bar, poolside, in the dining room, at the shows, or on the decks!
You are sure to savor the journey when you make new friends and relax while doing so!
#7 The Food Options Are Magnificent, But You Need 10 Days
Cruises are synonymous with delicious eats at almost any time of the day and with almost any type of food.
But, to enjoy the HAL Cruise ships, you will want to take a 10-day cruise, not one of the 7-day cruises, and then make a checklist of all the different places to eat and drink and knock them off your food bucket list for Holland America one by one.
As a true foodie, I look forward to the themed food nights based on a port of call and the extra food service areas, from the moonlight lido deck pizzas to the piano bars below.
Book That 10-Day Cruise To Savor The Journey On Holland America
The practicality of a slightly extended stay, ten days rather than 7, truly elevates the magic and romanticism of cruising.
From there, the cruising world is your oyster as Holland America has launched other extended cruises, all of which are prime pickings for cruisers that want more out of their time away to dig deeper and see more (that’s me!)
Ten days is the perfect option if you are looking for a longer and more luxurious cruise vacation.
You will have more time to enjoy all the best parts of cruising and can create lasting memories that will last a lifetime. ~ Dana XO
